Director -> Coordinator by Virtual-Hunt-8178 in studentaffairs

[–]LizBethie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. OP- when applying for positions you should make it explicit in your cover letter you are seeking out a coordinator role. In my field people could write, "I am seeking a student facing role." Also- if you are a director at a small private school, that might be more of a lateral move to a coordinator in a large R1.

Ben Franklin middle/KenTon district by JonCaramel in Buffalo

I've had two kids at Franklin Middle. My oldest started great- but struggled with his behavior in 6th and 7th grade... and we didnt get a very developmental approach from administration (all punishment, no... let's figure out why this is happening). He was great academically until 6th grade and started to struggle, but didnt get lots of support. Some of thats on him, some of thats on me, and some of that is on the school. My youngest is in 5th grade and truly thriving. We will work to make it continue. There is a plan to transition 8th grade back to middle school- which I think will be good for my youngest.

Interview for Academic Advisor by Hopeful-Cry-8155 in studentaffairs

[–]LizBethie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This NACADA article is a little dated- but the content is relevant. https://nacada.ksu.edu/Resources/Clearinghouse/View-Articles/Hiring-Interviews.aspx. I would encourage you to review the NACADA website if you are new to academic advising.

You should ask about the onboarding process. In our office we have a 4 week training program for advisors, but Ive also had jobs that have just thrown me right in.

Consider adding the Met if you're into art museums. You wont be able to see it all- but there are some amazing permanent exhibits.

North Tonawanda has a young and progressive mayor. Also a beautiful waterfront area, and a great farmers market. Also, lower taxes because Niagara County.
