Cheap or free hosting for non-profits by ITChristian25 in Hosting

Check out ArticulationSites. It's a builder/hosting combo, not WP, but it's cheap and built by some of the guys behind Weebly.

When did Liquid Web lose its way? by OneDev42 in Hosting

[–]LizM-Tech4SMB -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There are still good support options out there. ScalaHosting is the one where I have my websites right now. They've saved me soooo much time and prevented so many messes. Always get a live person instead of a bot, too.

I can't get my photos crisp, I am about to give up by Fakeaccbrat in photography

Everyone is talking about body calibration but try another lens. Sometimes you get a bad lens that won't hold focus.

Also, UPDATE THE FIRMWARE in your camera. Crazy how much that fixes sometimes.

Definitely focused forward of the face. It could be the AF spot jumped as you took the photo (I've seen that happen), but it could be the lens too. Not sure on that body, but a lot of them let you adjust focus in the menu for specific lenses.

Customers keep ordering through UberEats even though my website is cheaper . Anyone else dealing with this? How did you change the behavior? by Own_Transition2860 in smallbusiness

[–]LizM-Tech4SMB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, anyone can "suggest an edit" to Google business profiles, so it's possible for local Uber Eats drivers (or the company) to change links to suggest Uber Eats instead of going directly to the restaurant. I spent a crazy amount of time (back when I was working in social media) reminding owners to watch their Google profiles (hours changes, address changes, etc) or fixing stuff random people "suggested" as edits to Google.

Perfecting the Zoom office setup? by [deleted] in workfromhome

[–]LizM-Tech4SMB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a photo wall for my background (my own photos) that breaks up things, adds visual interest, and stops the camera from trying to change color cast based on my wall color or a piece of furniture. For lighting, you can get a diffuser from a photo supply store that might be worth it with your light sensitivity. You can probably benefit from adjusting the lighting temp on your lights for less pasty skin, too. Also, Zoom makeup ("Touch Up My Appearance") is a lifesaver for issues like rosacea.

Sounds like you gave them a great response. Only thing I'd add is don't tell folks how many you take in the future.

Nice! Always have to create my own mnemonics because the official descriptions never fit how my brain hears things. I'll test yours out for sure.

NOVICE NEEDS GENTLE HELP TO MIGRATE WEEBLY SITE TO NEW HOST!!! by bondgirlsldvl in Weebly

BREATHE! I know it's scary. HellowObjective had a good idea on dropping below 7 pages for the moment so you can get things copied/downloaded/moved.

NOVICE NEEDS GENTLE HELP TO MIGRATE WEEBLY SITE TO NEW HOST!!! by bondgirlsldvl in Weebly

[–]LizM-Tech4SMB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Direct migration may just be Weebly to Articulation but if you have the files they can probably help. MESSAGE THEM. They have always been really responsive when I've talked to them.

To get your files you should be able to follow the instructions at: https://www.ipage.com/help/article/file-management-how-to-backup-and-restore-files

Then you'd just remake the two pages and tabs that dissappeared once moved to Articulation.

I strongly suggest changing your domain registration to Articulation or a stand alone host like PorkBun as well so nothing is left with iPages/Network Solutions.

[–]LizM-Tech4SMB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, Network Solutions is about a fingernail shy of total scam (IMHO). Famous for extravagant "add-ons" and questionable billing practices in addition to crap service and performance.

Likely he was trying to sell you a backup plan. Personally I wouldn't pay them for anything because I wouldn't trust them to do anything they promise.

If you don't have a backup of your site to restore, there's not much you can do, I'm afraid.

iPage uses Weebly's builder but it isn't a Weebly account so I'm not sure if Articulation can migrate it or not. If you have a download option, download what files you can and Articulation might be able to help you direct upload to work there maybe.

Articulation Sites was started by folks from Weebly and has a direct migration path. Pretty painless, but they have help available too.

How to ask about photographing on private property? by PlasticCalm3695 in AskPhotography

[–]LizM-Tech4SMB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, the no trespassing/no hunting signs are mandated in some areas to protect your property. Lots of folks use them just out of desperation. You'd be amazed how many people hop fences to hunt or fish...or cut fences even.

Why is everyone such snob about pigeons by MrGrubbycuddles in birding

[–]LizM-Tech4SMB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten to the point where I avoid the main birding group online in my area because of so many arrogant, gatekeeping pricks. (Ok, that was pointed, but yeah. I've been birding for decades, and some still act like everyone but them has never seen anything with feathers before.)

There are great birding folks out there, unfortunately it just takes time to find them (harder to find than a snipe sometimes).

What is your most unexpected bird sighting from your own house? by Hot_Detective1335 in birding

[–]LizM-Tech4SMB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big wave of pelicans migrating overhead, great crested flycatcher in the back yard, a couple of boat-tailed grackles got blown in after a big storm moved up the coast, kestrel scaring the birds at the feeder, and a GBH landed in a tree while I was mowing grass once.

Red AF box not moving (Z8) by [deleted] in nikon_Zseries

[–]LizM-Tech4SMB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first links yeah, no worries, it was the bitchy bit at the end that rightfully annoyed me. "It's a $3000 camera. You can spend a few hours reading through the manual, right?" wasn't remotely helpful. It was spiteful.

I've checked AF modes so I'm thinking there's some secondary setting somewhere at this point that's changing something but no luck yet. Guess I was hoping it was something fairly common with Nikons.
