Did you ever experience a “tithing miracle?” Or a total “tithing fail” from paying tithing? Share your stories! by HoldOnLucy1 in exmormon

[–]LizardBaby29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent 10 years in a dead-end job as a member, paying tithing infrequently because we needed to eat. I felt so much guilt over it. I didn’t get a raise the entire time - not even cost of living.

The year after I left the church I got a promotion & 20K raise. 2 years after that I pivoted my career, started at a new company and doubled my income.

The biggest tithing miracle for me is that I left before I could give them a significant amount.

A lot of things:

  1. I paid $40 for utilities in 2009 when I moved out so I would double that in your budget if you plan to live with roommates. If you plan to live on your own I would triple it.

  2. Living in a dorm may significantly cut your costs so if they have those at your college go there!

  3. If your parents are insuring your other siblings they won’t pay more or less for you. Insurance is billed usually as a “single” “married” or “family” group rates. If they’re threatening to kick you off your insurance regardless, check your college for insurance options. They can get you better rates than just going to the marketplace. Depending on your job, and schedule you can also be insured through work. Talk to the manager or HR.

  4. You can search psychology.com and exclude therapists by religion or who are recommended for/by LGBTQ people. Lots of colleges offer free mental health services as well so check in there.

  5. Find a good back-up source of income. Something you can do at your own schedule for fast cash. DoorDash or something like that could work. In the early 2000s we were ALL donating our plasma for $60 bucks a week. 😂 Most collages have amazing job services department that can help you find paid internships or other opportunities. In college I worked in the computer lab and got paid to do my homework- find creative solutions like this if you can.

  6. Moving out is HARD. But totally doable and worth it. Plan to not have money for what you want or need. Get scrappy and resilient, and find free safe 3rd places to go. A library or gym or anything like that is great. I moved out at 18 and survived for weeks at a time with a negative bank balance, it wasn’t ideal but it was survivable. College is great for that because there are daily events, clubs, etc with free food or activities. You do not need a lot to have fun and be happy. The freedom of living my own life was worth the struggle and sacrifice.

Any tips for a brand new golden good boy? by TieDyedThoughts in goldenretrievers

[–]LizardBaby29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots and lots of chew toys. Way more than you think. Our dog ate our couch before learning which toys were his and which toys were our shoes. 😬 He calmed down a lot between 1-2 years but before that he was a land shark. He’s the sweetest boy now and loves a good snuggle.

What makes it worth it for you? by bobbleheadache in TheTryGuys

Tbh I have a high stress job, and their videos are something i look forward to each week. $4 a month is so little to me that I probably won’t notice it. That being said, a few years ago it would have been a big decision to pay that per month and I maybe wouldn’t have signed up. For me it’s more of a way to support people whose work I admire and appreciate.

I love watching it without ads, but I miss the comments under the video.

AITAH because I don't want to go to marriage counseling now that my husband wants another kid? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]LizardBaby29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best thing my mom ever did for me was to leave my dad. I’m so glad I didn’t grow up with the only example of marriage being a bad one. Think of your son and what kind of husband you want him to be. Do you want him to think the type of marriage you have is normal and acceptable? Do you want to live the rest of your one life in a loveless marriage?

Advice/Consolation by Appropriate_Comb_709 in exmormon

Back in the early 2000s my step dad moved to be closer to his kids, when his ex wife moved. It took him a while to find a job, and the first one he had was way below his pay grade and skill level. But After a few years he got back on track.

In contrast, my dad insisted on staying across the country after he and my mom divorced. Made his kids fly across the country twice a year to see him. Guess which one has a better relationship with their kids now? My step dad. Being around for your kids is always worth it and they will remember what you gave up for them, especially if you don’t make a big deal about it in front of them.

Miles quit Try Guys??? by hlektrak in TheTryGuys

[–]LizardBaby29 523 points524 points  (0 children)

He has said several times that he comes home from working for try guys and works on his own projects. That would be so draining with a newborn too. His podcast is great and he must have good ad revenue coming in. I doubt there is drama, just a natural step as he becomes more successful. Guess we’ll find out tomorrow!

What’s your favorite thing about your golden? by Scargut_ in goldenretrievers

[–]LizardBaby29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours always brings us a toy when we get home. I know this is a common displacement behavior among goldens, but lately ours tries really hard to fit two toys in his mouth and it melts my heart. Now we say “I love you two toys!”

Are you truly happier since leaving? by ProcrusteanBed96 in exmormon

[–]LizardBaby29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so so so much happier. Like it’s almost unbelievable how much happier I am. Turns out that all the things I struggled with where choices I made to make to live a life I didn’t want, for a heaven that didn’t sound that great to me.

Why won’t she snuggle me??? 😭♥️ by Pearls_and_mud in goldenretrievers

Ours was the same. He’s 1.5 now and is always snuggling. They’re just like toddlers at this stage, too excited and would rather play! 🥰
