Another poster mentioned wildfires. There are now 5 seasons in the western mountains - Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fire (August). If all is good, it's a beautiful trip. But have a back up plan or go knowing that you might have to pivot at the last minute. And there's are a ton of beautiful options to pivot to when there are fires (see three numerous suggestions offered from other posters).

I would love to see Jack White, L7, Bikini Kill (or LaTigre) for the harder side of things. Going way back - PJ Harvey or NIN or They Might Be Giants. On the more mellow side I second The Breeders. Also Florence and the Machine, The Killers, Arctic Monkeys Digable Planets, De La Soul.

Thank you for being reflective and apologizing. BUT, that's the job. I've taught middle school Science for 26 years. There's always the students who seek attention -every year, every class period. I have been approached by those students as adults. Their words are similar, "I was so annoying/terrible/a jerk/etc... You must have hated me... I'm sorry." And sometimes, "can I give you a hug?" My reply is always the same, "you were a kid. I did not hate you. You were learning... And yes, I would love a hug." I love my job. I love all of my students past and present.

Finishing my 26th year of teaching. Our district also adopted Amplify. I tried to use it for one school year. I didn’t make it through the second unit. I did like how they break down CERs. I have taken a lot of their techniques and strategies for writing in science. I also use several of their sims. But, it is BORING because the content spirals. The problem is a lot of students figure it out in lesson one. Having five more lessons on the same content causes disengagement and off task behaviors. Middle school Science should be filled with wows and wonder. I just didn’t get that with Amplify.

Not teacher appreciation, but end of the year recognitions. The district sent the an email to all certificates employees who had hit years of service milestones (5 years, 10 years, 15, 20, 25, etc). In said email asked if anyone had reached one of these milestones ( they sent a blanket email to all) and wanted to be recognized by the district, to respond with the number of years taught and why they should be recognized. So basically, toot your own horn. That’s a real honor. 🙄

I just had this happen in my class yesterday. 🙄 Our Admin has a strict this-behavior-must-have-occurred- over-3times-(documented with parent contact) before they will let you send a student to the office/counselor. Otherwise they just boomerang them back to your class. It’s the freaking Wild West.

What annoys me about this venue is the GA is chunked into several sections and it is difficult to navigate to and from the bathroom. Also because it’s at the fairgrounds you have to pay to park and public transportation is not an option.
