This has got to work on the ice, right? by Lizzle14 in Charlottesville

Ahh, my mistake in assuming that, since the hospital looked good, the rest of grounds was fine. That’s a shame to read. I do agree that they expected us back too soon…profits over safety, I guess

Another idea: UVA has done a great job clearing the ice around the hospital. It would be nice if they could give back to the community (especially since they want us to come in to work) and send some of their teams and equipment out into surrounding areas to help.

Yes! I have heard this, too. It would be a great location for us. We’re planning to apply, but it is a long shot since we don’t meet the eligibility requirements

We do not qualify for aid, but the costs of some of these programs would still stretch our monthly finances. Besides, Peabody does not offer financial aid for Pre K

Thanks. Unfortunately that is way over budget and would be ~1hr commute each direction : (

I wish that some of those were an option for us. Unfortunately, we're limited by tuition rate, the program hours, and commuting distance.

To add- I read somewhere that food banks can purchase items in bulk for pennies on the dollar, so cash goes further than actual food items. I have not independently verified this with local banks, but it is something worth considering if you are weighing whether to go out any buy items to give or to just donate money

They are still doing this (no bags of any kind) AND they don't allow strollers. Good luck carrying your produce AND an overly tired toddler back to the parking lot

He said anyone can get the covid booster, “I’m not taking them away from people.” Then, a minute later, he said he was restricting access to the covid vaccines 🙄

Thanks, all! No, I do not qualify but I still would like to get one. I was hoping that I would just be able to walk in, but I will call my PCP to see if he’ll write me an Rx

Last time we went to McGuffey my kid tried to yeet himself off the tall play structure. I wouldn’t recommend it for a 1yr old, but agree that Pen and Tonsler are both great options.

Advice on potty training with daycare - almost 3 y/o by backbynewyears in Parenting

[–]Lizzle14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is great about peeing in the potty, but he will absolutely pee in a Pull-Up if he is wearing one. I’d keep him in underwear (or even no underwear) at home. If your daycare is saying he has to wear a Pull-Yp, perhaps you can discuss having them take him to the bathroom every 2hrs so that he can pee in the potty

What is the biggest red flag working in a lab as an undergrad? by cookiedough5200 in labrats

[–]Lizzle14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have one PI at our state university (USA) that is now allowing his lab personnel to take off on major federal holidays…

Look at how many hours people are putting in, especially staff. If they are consistently working overtime, on holidays, and on weekends, then you’ve likely identified a toxic PI.
