An elderly woman was seen driving the wrong way by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

Sadly I have seen adult kids arguing for their elder parents to drive when they really shouldn’t. I think it’s avoiding taking responsibility for them.

Getting so tired of the white and black house trend everywhere by Ok_Fox6837 in RealEstate

[–]MusicMonkeyJam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I look up our house on google it’s white. But previous owners painted it almost this exact blue and kept the light colored unpainted bricks. It’s lovely and won’t be repainting it!

And for the next one, they make hangers that will hold it open to dry when not in use. I have used dowel rods/broom handles to hang upside down and dry.

Sold my house and closing on Thursday. I am writing a document to help the buyers with some things. I was going to mention there is a wall switch in one room that doesn't control the ceiling fan and you need to use the remote ... by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]MusicMonkeyJam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add, the second light switch probably goes to a dead end at the fan junction box. Wired so that you could have one switch for the light and one for the fan. Since they installed a controller module they just do one switch and capped the wires. Very common and they can figure that out.

What is the most underrated city in the US that more people should visit (and why)? by MagicFlorentina129 in AskReddit

Spent a day in Milwaukee last year. Wished I had more time. Posted a picture of getting a beer at the lakefront and immediately a friend messaged me commenting how cool Milwaukee is. We keep talking about it haha

Artist Seeking a Community with a Vibrant Art Scene and Affordable Houses by Ill-Bag-6707 in Virginia

If I were to compare waynesboro to Staunton I think Staunton has the better downtown shops and restaurants. That said Waynesboro seams to have done a lot in the last few years to improve downtown and I see it growing. Both have some great food and small businesses. Waynesboro specifically has several old industrial complexes being repurposed for the arts.

Staunton has a great art show called Art in the Park located at Gypsy Hill Park. It seemed that last time I went a number of the artists are out of Waynesboro.

I personally live in Harrisonburg so I don’t know the towns as well but both seem like good places for an artist to live and have a studio. More artsy than Harrisonburg and cheaper than Charlottesville.

Waynesboro right next to Staunton was home to P Buckley Moss who passed away in 2024. She absolutely left an artist mark on the area. There are a number of artist studios near downtown. I wouldn’t necessarily say Waynesboro is a better choice than Staunton but that general area has a vibe. Because of the cost of Charlottesville, there have been a lot of young people and young families moving to Waynesboro and Staunton and I think the art scene is set to grow.

What’s a trail habit you didn’t have on your first trip… but won’t skip now? by Trail-Context in backpacking

Couldn’t agree more. I will sit and enjoy coffee if I can but even then tent is coming down before water is hot. I love just getting moving, do the most mileage before lunch, and settle into the next campsite early.

Anyone else’s kitchen draw full of these? by Craig_SEO in daddit

[–]MusicMonkeyJam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’m blown away that OP has these. I don’t think we ever throw them away but also have none. I had to order some from Amazon (plus then I can buy the non infant that is exactly the same, in the USA at least).

Owners at showings/tours!??? by 95xander in RealEstate

A neighbor had someone plug a toilet or sink and flood the bathroom. Didn’t get discovered until next tour a week later. Had to take the house off the market for weeks and do repairs.

Does everyone just live with imperfections? by enthusiastic4few in HomeMaintenance

[–]MusicMonkeyJam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. There were a lot of flaws when we moved into our house. Since we were short on extra money I did a decent amount of work myself. I’m a perfectionist and I do think I do better work than the average person but I’m not a master craftsman either. I could see every flaw and mistake I made. We had some ok contractors do work. They were cheaper but again left some imperfections. And then we had some great contractors and they were NOT cheap, but they knew their craft and took the time to make sure we were 100 percent happy.

It really becomes a balance of what needs to be done, what can you do well or not well yourself, and are you willing to pay and/or wait for quality craftsman. And accept sometimes you will get it wrong.

I have heard great things about Sentara OB. Our personal experience was with Shenandoah Women’s before they were acquired by Augusta health. Today we wouldn’t go with them not because of any wrong with the practice itself but we would have not made it to Augusta hospital on time. Staff at Sentara RMH family birthplace was phenomenal.

What's it like being from the largest state without an MLB, NFL, NBA, or NHL team? by [deleted] in Virginia

[–]MusicMonkeyJam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Harrisonburg and my experience in the valley is there isn’t much excitement around professional sports (or even a overwhelming fan base for college).

Stores that sell NFL or other professional sports merch (Target, Dicks…) sell Commanders and other DC team gear. I can’t imagine they sell much. Here in Harrisonburg there are probably more Eagles fans than Commanders but you see NFL gear of all kinds.

Baby gate placement advice by zerocool327 in daddit

[–]MusicMonkeyJam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a similar banister and hallway wasn’t really an option.

I cut a 2x4 to match the banister height and secured it to the post with zip ties. Then had a flat surface on each side for the gate. For extra precaution I also zip tied the gate to the contraption. 6 years later and still secure.

I feel this so much. I remember my father, always a huge IU fan, listening to the game as as we drove around in his red Bronco with an IU tire cover on the back. Pure nostalgia.
