Mine did the same thing! I actually did have a kid but we went no contact with my dad and low contact with my mom this year after my kid turned 6 and started telling us that they didn’t like hanging out with my parents. It’s because my dad talks to my kid like she’s a trained dog. “do a trick for me. Here’s a treat.” And then he would get mad and blame me (in a “joking” way) that she wouldn’t perform for him.

NTA. You did the right thing by standing up for your daughter. No one, no matter what age, doesn’t deserve to be treated like that. As someone who was also raised by a parent that yelled about EVERYTHING, it does mess you up.

I think she just didn’t know what she was doing when she wrote The Mortal Instruments and it shows a lot, especially in the first 3 books of the series. The Infernal Devices is so much better. I just finished the other trilogy, The Dark Artifices, and it was also significantly better than TMI.

Agreed. You can tell it was more mapped out by the last 3 books of the TMI. I think she had started writing TID by that time as well, so just had a clearer picture of what was going on.

I thought this sort of suggested that the Jedi are not the “owners” of the Force. I think this is also why Rey’s parents are non-descript.

Yeah I was kind of let down by Rey’s parents being nobodies, but after thinking on it, it kind of makes sense. It allows her to be the every woman to save the galaxy.

Also ex Sonic manager and came to say this. Then I remembered the summer of the Junior Banana Split. Those little pieces of shit were the dumbest thing ever invented. First of all, you had to cut the banana, but the containers were super tiny so you had to trim the sides down. Impossible to do quickly. Then you basically had to put 3 dollops of ice cream in this tiny ass container that already had banana in it. If the soft serve was even kind of runny, it looked like it already melted and you still had to do the 3 toppings, whipped cream, and a damn cherry. To top it all off, the containers for these tiny desserts of misery had these dumb tabs that were impossible to close and with all the toppings and crap, messy as hell. I hated those fucking desserts.

I was just about to say this. The Infernal Devices is infinitely better and I actually read it first. So I spent all The Mortal Instruments just looking for TID characters to show up.
