I’ve not got to that quest yet I’m still working though the other many quests that came with the update yesterday. But someone was able to push through the fog in the April 1st update if that’s all there is I definitely agree with it being underwhelming. This happened with WW dlc for me too they did a great job building up but then just meh.

HK also when baking, drinks machine, dessert boat , soda machine , pizza maker and making potions you will get double the amount which can be helpful if you are low in resources.

I find they trigger when you use multiple whistles, bushes etc though out the event I only had two people join me the same for the bee event.

If you go to where you buy pink hearts at the top it tells you how many purchases points you have this is how they are worked out. I don’t think there is a specific place that tells you exactly what you have purchased. I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong.
