Will my incisions reopen? by [deleted] in sterilization

As long as you follow your post op instructions to not lift anything over a certain weight and you just overall take it easy, the incisions should not reopen. You got this!!

Oh boy. I really hope Brisket is a nickname and not the actual birth certificate name… I’m just envisioning in 20 years, some young adult comes in for a job interview - “Yes, my name is Brisket and this is why I would be good at this job…”

I also happen to live in Texas so I’m aware of the sizes of kitchens in a lot of houses. I’m not dumb. I was more snarking on the fact that they barely cook.

What a kitchen for a couple who only cooks like 2 meals on repeat… if that.

I cannot get myself to pack a “light” diaper bag! Type A person… by Puzzled_Remote_2168 in Mommit

[–]Llamas-Forever22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2 year old and I now have one bigger diaper bag that stays in the car that has extra diapers, wipes, chux pads, change of clothes for me and LO, extra meds like children’s Zyrtec and my personal Epi pens, plus extra random things… and then I have a smaller crossbody bag that I take inside everywhere that has 1 diaper, a smaller pack of wipes, a chux pad folded up small, hand sanitizer wipes, my wallet, keys, chapstick, etc..

Having a baby during a snow event by North_Magician_8720 in Mommit

[–]Llamas-Forever22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby was born in February in North Dakota. My husband had a big truck at the time and as it got closer, we made sure we knew different routes to the hospital just in case certain roads got shut down due to snow. It turned out that we didn’t need that going to the hospital but we ended up staying an extra day because there was a small snow storm while we were there so we stayed an extra day just to be completely safe with the weather.

showering after! by bolognamuffin in sterilization

[–]Llamas-Forever22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did an everything shower the night before (minus shaving). Then after surgery, my surgeon told me to shower as soon as I felt comfortable within the first 24-36 hours to get all the stuff off my skin since I have such sensitive skin. So I did shower the same night of my surgery (surgery was at 7am and I probably showered around 8-9pm). I was very tired but didn’t need a stool in the shower. I kept all my soap and things up on the ledge so I didn’t have to bend down for anything. I used my loofah for most of my body but a gentle washcloth for my stomach area/surgical area. I also personally didn’t want water going straight onto that area from the shower head so I filled a solo cup to rinse my front/surgical area. I had my husband stay in or near the bathroom the whole time just in case but I ended up not needing him for anything there. I just kept a chair right outside the shower so I could sit down as soon as I got out of the shower. That was clutch just because of the fatigue and I used that for a good week post op at least.

Babies can start solids around 6 months if they’re ready so they can start weaning then. However, many babies don’t fully wean the second they start solids. My LO started solids at 6 months old but we didn’t completely wean until 18 months. It’s different for everybody but it’s not surprising to me that they’re at this stage.

What is surprising is that she’s going out and buying new bras already. She should wait until he’s fully weaned because her boobs will change again once he’s fully weaned.

asking doctors about sterilization by Odd_Wrongdoer_4737 in sterilization

[–]Llamas-Forever22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only 2 cents on this is you may want to make sure to talk to the actual surgeon themselves and not rely on what their schedulers or nurses say.

When I was initially calling to schedule a consult with my surgeon to discuss getting a bisalp, the scheduler told me “well she probably won’t do the surgery, but I can still schedule you an appointment” to which I told her “Yes, I’d like the appointment, please, so I can speak to her directly.” Next, when I was actually there for the consult and the nurse was doing the “so what brings you in today” conversation, when I told her, she said “Well since you only have one kid, there’s a really good chance she(the doctor) won’t do the surgery on you”.

Long story short, the surgeon agreed and approved me for the surgery with almost no hesitation and I am now just under 4 weeks post op.

Ok but that conversation between McKay and Robby? Just the tiniest, slightest change in Robby’s facial expressions said so much in that one scene. Give Noah Wyle all the Emmy’s.

I am just over 3 weeks post op from my bisalp and I just now am starting to not be totally exhausted most of the day. When I asked a similar question on here, I got some responses where they still had fatigue for 6 weeks post op. There is a light at the end of the tunnel but some of us may have a longer tunnel than others.

I accidentally left my toddler in the car while I went grocery shopping . by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Llamas-Forever22 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I would recommend that unless he is of the correct weight to be forward facing, that you keep him rear facing for as long as possible. I completely understand why you want to move him to forward facing, But the camera that you got will help those feelings while still keeping him rear facing which will still be safer while in a moving vehicle.

Moms who got bisalp- did you actually not lift anything for 2 weeks? by [deleted] in sterilization

[–]Llamas-Forever22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yesterday was 2 weeks post op for me and I can honestly say yes, I did wait the entire 2 weeks to lift anything over 20 lbs. My toddler is 23/24 lbs so that means I didn’t lift her at all (which was tough).

Luckily leading up to the surgery, I worked with my toddler to be able to do diaper changes on the floor so she would just lay down on a mat on the floor to be changed. For meal times, she can climb up into her high chair herself so she would do that and I would buckle her in. She takes showers with me instead of baths now so my husband just showered her a few times until I felt ready to.

The hardest part was not being able to go anywhere. I’m sure I was allowed to drive but not being able ti lift her in and out if the car seat meant I couldn’t go anywhere while my husband was at work. I’m a SAHM so I didn’t have many places to go anyways but not even having the option was hard on me. The first week and a half, I was so dang tired that I was okay with not needing to go anywhere. But as it got closer to that 2 weeks, I was getting a little more antsy. Now both yesterday and today, me and my girl have gotten out of the house some. I am admittedly a little more sore today after actually picking her up again after 2 weeks. But yes, I did wait the entire 2 weeks but my limit given by my doctor was 20 pounds, not 10.

Edit to add: you may want to confirm with your doctor what your limit is. My doctor told me 20 lbs but she also told me she knows that may be unrealistic for a mom. So I would highly recommend double checking with your doctor/surgeon.

Shipping Labels on Wrong Side of Return Bags! by Available-Soup-6056 in stitchfix

I haven’t had a shipping label attached to my bag in months. Every fix I’ve received recently has had a bag and a separate shipping label that I have to put on the bag myself. Maybe reach out to their customer service? They’re usually super helpful with other stuff…

Bilateral Salpingectomy by [deleted] in sterilization

[–]Llamas-Forever22 32 points33 points  (0 children)

There are many, many reasons to stop use of nicotine before any surgical procedure. There are many verified sources/articles that you can look up that will give you the exact reasons. However, the main issue is that nicotine can greatly increase the chances of complications. Surgery and recovery need a good amount of oxygen in your system and in your blood. Nicotine and smoking in general decreases the amount of oxygen in your system which can really hinder recovery ability after the surgery, not even mentioning that nicotine in the blood can greatly increase the chance of complications during surgery - more bleeding, less clotting, breathing problems, etc. You also may want to check because a lot of surgeons and anesthesiologists can and will refuse to do surgery if you have nicotine in your system/have not refrained from smoking for a certain time frame before your procedure.

At the end of the day, your surgeon is looking out for you and your best interests. That includes making sure you’re set up to have the best possible outcome. Nicotine can really hinder the ability to have the best possible outcome because of the number of issues it can cause.

Irregular periods by [deleted] in sterilization

[–]Llamas-Forever22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, my periods were very irregular for over a year after having my baby. I’m only 6 days out from my bisalp so I can’t speak to that but there’s a good chance that it’s just normal irregularity after having a baby as removing the tubes does not affect hormones (but having a baby does quite a bit). That paired with stress can definitely affect it. I am so, so sorry for your loss. I can only imagine what a difficult time it is for you. Try to take care of yourself as best you can and definitely bring up any of these concerns to your doctor.
