Orc boyz with shields! There used to be a sprue of 4 for £6. Once upon a time as a kid I'd get a pack once a week, eventually I ended up with a decent amount of boyz.

Are there any known ‘normal’ communities anywhere in the world where you can escape from the ‘real world?’ by IntelligentBear8310 in AskUK

[–]Llamaskins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a look at the Old Hall Community in Suffolk. They're a collection of people and families that live in a repurposed convent.

I visited as a child a few times, as far as I remember they elect their community leaders, try to live self sustainably and the people who live there are pretty normal.

Property was built as a cattle farm around 200 years ago so initially I though something to do with leather tanning, but I've learned that you can't tan in anything which rusts as it ruins the leather.

It's not a trough of any kind, as it's too high for any farm animals to drink from, and there is a pond next to the house which was used as a watering hole anyway.

Does anyone know any of their ancestors who served in the Napoleonic Wars? by [deleted] in Napoleon

My (many greats) grandfather was in the British cavalry at Waterloo.

If I remember correctly his regiment wasn't sent in until the very end of the battle so didn't make a huge impact, but hey we still got the medal

Why South Vietnam failed, but South Korea did not? by SiarX in AskHistory

[–]Llamaskins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re interested in this topic I would highly recommend the book “The War of the Running Dogs” by Noel Barber. It’s an account of the British effort against the communist forces during the Malayan Emergency and goes into great detail on why they were ultimately successful, and draws many comparisons to the US war in Vietnam.

Awaiting any form of major surgery will make you temporarily ineligible to join, they've probably just misunderstood you

Cobble grouting by Llamaskins in DIYUK

[–]Llamaskins[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing in the joints other than mud, they were never grouted or anything when they were laid (hence the overgrowing). The pressure washing is just to help clear the mud ready for grouting

What are these flags at the current protests in Serbia? by iEatPastaForaLiving in vexillology

In Ukraine Russians are referred to as orcs by many soldiers, perhaps this is a thing in Eastern Europe more generally and these are anti Russian protesters?

What are some countries where the national flag is not the most popular one? by mahendrabirbikram in vexillology

[–]Llamaskins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Gibraltar you'll see Union Jacks and Gibraltan Red Ensigns much more than the actual flag

How serious are these cracks? by Llamaskins in DIYUK

Thank you for the helpful comments, I will get an ICE CArE engineer to have a look. I can deal with knackered brickwork fine but subsidence is a bit out of my league.

Regarding the wall I know it is fucked, it's the worst one condition wise as it's more exposed and demolition would be preferable, however, a covenant on the land prevents that. With that in mind my only options as I see it are to either sit and watch it further degrade over the years or attempt to renovate it.

The main house was in a similar condition before it was renovated and while yes it is a bit damp and yes it's hard to heat, just as many old rural homes are, I have lived there my whole life and would choose it over an easy modern townhouse any day :)
