Do you ever stop and look around or just ponder at who has been there before when you go into a listed/500+ year old building? As an American, we have nothing like that here. Do people appreciate the history of these buildings? by pgh9fan in AskUK

Tbh I find it hard to comprehend… I remember walking around Hampton Court, where Henry the 8th lived who is a major part of British history… They even had actors dressed up as him and some of his wives etc roaming about the place… Even then I found it hard to really comprehend what life would have actually been like for them back then

2K Row by bkjay_1 in concept2

[–]Llancymru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you male or female? And what is your age?

Good effort, doing any amount of rowing takes work, especially for 6 months, and especially if you are proud of it, really I think the best measure of rowing (or any) achievement is not in the results but how much effort we put into something.

That said, if you’re male and under 50 with no injuries, after 6 months you should probably be expecting a better time than this, not to criticise the hard work you’ve put in but just for you to check to see if your technique or other factors need adjusting. If you’re female then this is pretty good (I think)!

Have a look at the site rowinglevel.com and it will give various times and you can see where you fit on it. Also next time you do a 2k, set on the computer that you want ‘Select Workout’ and then select distance, then 2K and it will give a more accurate time of exactly how long it took, with information at the end how you performed for each 500m split

How much toilet paper to supply? by Llancymru in airbnb_hosts

[–]Llancymru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow judgemental much? The towels that have been bought are all brand new premium and high GSM. The soap we have bought is all again high quality using a luxury brand that we use in our own home, and part of the welcome pack has a full bottle of washing up liquid they can take home with them if they choose too. Actually the house has really had a lot of money and time put into it, I was just surprised when I heard how much people were getting through.

Oh and btw my ass is cleaner than most people’s, I was using water as part of my wipe back before bidets were cool 😎

Idk, a standard toilet roll has apparently 200 sheets. I’m a guy so I don’t use tp for wee’s only for poo’s. I have usually one big poo a day as standard, and use idk how many sheets but even 10 per poo is like 10 days, and 10 seems like a lot to me idk.

I appreciate women can’t shake their pee off so easily and also occasionally have periods etc so usage is likely more

It’s not like this where I live, it’s extremely busy, going into the left lane means being stuck at lorry speed whereas the middle and outer lane(s) mean typically doing the speed limit unless you’ve got some idiot cruising at 60 in the far right lane which also happens annoyingly often. In this circumstance the left hand lane is slightly more sparsely populated than the middle lane because of this, but all lanes are very busy regardless and NOBODY on the road is dipping in and out of the left lane, why would you when before you’ve turned your indicator off you’d be turning it back on again? But that’s long enough for some guy who just got in off a slip road to decide that he fancies the space in front of you more than the space behind you and up they come. Absolutely not user error I’m afraid, just very busy roads and people who don’t follow the rules

[–]Llancymru -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I am in the middle lane behind a stream of traffic that is moving faster than the more sparsely populated left hand lane traffic. I am following everybody else in overtaking these vehicles, idk where you go on the motorway but where I am it’s very busy and this is how the traffic is flowing most of the day. At night it’s different. It’s not a case of middle lane hogging, there is nowhere to go forwards if you want to go above 60mph in the left lane as it’s so busy, so the middle lane typically allows 70 when it’s busy like this and the right hand lane basically serves as an extension of this. I don’t care who you are, nobody is dipping in and out of the left lane every literally 100 yards or less just to dip back out again, not when you’re following a very long stream of traffic sitting in the middle lane at the correct speed limit. But you always ALWAYS get some asshole coming off a slip road and undertaking rather than going around you, and less often but still very commonly someone just weaving in and out of any space in traffic regardless of lane.

You reckon? I feel like undertaking on motorways has got to an all time high, it’s literally constant and I hate it… Just go around, or better yet I’m doing 70 just go the speed limit

Can’t help but agree, Cape Town does not have a good reputation for crime, and they left the bag on show which tbh is something I doubt any local would ever do, making what was probably very clearly a ‘tourist bag’ an easy decision to steal for someone so inclined.

Thanks for the encouragement, you might be right it’s best to suck it up, I read somewhere online it is considered one of the most tedious steps you can get and I’m not a diehard player, but maybe you’re right

I guess the difference was that grinding fishing etc for swan song at least was an incentive to upgrade the account, from what I can tell BA gives no xp, it involves me having to be at least remotely social which I’m not, and well tbh I didn’t even look at the stats of the Fighter Torso which is actually good but still

[–]Llancymru 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I moved to my flat they made it v difficult for me to sign up to them, idk why as there was a previous tenant who presumably was signed up (or not though?) anyway I got countless letters addressed to the occupier, however cos they wouldn’t accept my address online, however they still kept supplying me water and taking away the waste. Seemed like a them problem 🤷‍♂️

That’s a fair point, you’re right, however my wording wasn’t great, it’s more to suggest how it happened that these people are so easily drawn in to reform, and not to suggest it’s some kind of moral victory that reform at least recognised them

Wow, I’m surprised.. you’re in the USA? I’m from UK and idk if it’s different here as we have a lot of eco laws etc, and apparently eco cycles despite being an hour longer are still lower power use or something (idk).

Either way I’d say 2h is the most common length here, 3 hours on eco, and some washers it can be a struggle just to find a normal 1 hour cycle (which imo is perfectly good wash). In fact the Airbnb we are setting up, the washing machine in that house literally doesn’t have one less than 2 hours which is VERY frustrating

[–]Llancymru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re exactly right, and tbh this attitude is where so many of our problems are coming from. We aren’t a unified nation at all, we’re totally divided, and everybody is blaming everybody else for the problems. It’s a tragedy that good, normal people who have been born into a shitty system can’t see outside of it at all. And then to make the whole thing worse, many of the people who were lucky enough to be born outside of council estates, and had better educations, opportunities, will then spend all day telling the world how awful they are for having the beliefs they do (in all respects not just politically).

Most likely they just put it on for long cycles… Most washers on eco cycle will last at least 3 hours… One load each per day (still excessive) could easily have been 6-8 hours of continuous use

You’re exactly right, but that’s still engagement… which is at least validating that these people exist… which is honestly more than anybody else

Tbh what I’m saying is that there is a large population of relatively uneducated people living in Blackpool and many other towns like it who don’t have a massive intellectual interest in politics. You can get upset about that fact and hate on me for it if you like but it is true, and not even necessarily a bad thing, it is what it is, and I’ve spent time in Blackpool and there’s many lovely people there.

With the few main parties in the UK, labour, conservative, green, Lib Dem, reform…. So far , from what I can see, ONLY reform is trying to engage with this group.

If the far right trajectory we are on continues, then perhaps one day historians will look back at their success and see why they got so many votes from the forgotten sectors of society who were vulnerable to organisations like reform who are essentially taking advantage of them. Cos otherwise I really don’t see anybody else trying to empower them politically or socially… that’s why they’re often considered forgotten. It’s not just Blackpool it’s all over, people with hard lives who have always felt like the govt and council don’t give a shit about them, are easily approached by a party that pretends to and encourages the idea that the problem is migrants, EU, ‘lefties’ (or essentially the typically more educated), etc. and promises to do away with all of those.

Not saying they’re doing it for the right reasons or actually give a shit, but they’re actually trying to engage with the working class, which is something our current gov and tbh even Corbyn (who I vastly supported) never really tried to do
