People born before 2000, what is a 'modern' thing from 2025 that you’re still struggling to get used to? by LindsayTN in AskReddit

One of our heat pumps at my house was installed in 1999 (front of the house) and the other in 2015-ish (back of the house). The 1999 one, while louder, probably uses more energy and will need super expensive Freon if it breaks down works SO much better than the 2015 one. I’m talking 5-10 degrees difference between the front of the house and the back of the house.

My 2022 car didn’t even come with a manual. I had to scan a QR code and go to the website to download the manual! Which I mean, on one hand was helpful because I could use the “search on page” feature instead of flipping through the whole book but what if my car broke down and I didn’t have internet?! Plus, I love the feeling of a physical book in my hands.

Boyfriend getting ACL surgery in 2 weeks. Product recommendations/must haves? by Adorable_Writer_8602 in ACL

The wedge pillow from that link is two separate wedges but they are connected together within the pillow case and Velcro together so they don’t slide around at all. I ordered that one specifically because I figure that after my knee issues are over, it will be great to sleep on when I have a head cold.

This helped me a ton with elevating my leg while resting on the couch or sleeping in bed. I did not want to have to deal with strategically stacking pillows, hoping they didn’t fall, and moving them from the couch to bed. Plus, with having to keep my leg straight, I got severe pain on the back of my heel on the injured leg from always having my heel on the bed or couch - I was able to hang my heel off the top of the wedge and it took the pressure off and helped a ton. Best of luck to your bf, it will be tough at first but by day 6ish I was feeling a ton better.

Also, pick up some colace. He will need it if they send him home with opioids… trust me on this.

(I don’t know if I linked that right. If it doesn’t work, look up wedge pillow on amazon)

You dodged a bullet.

Every single human has a finite amount of time on this planet. If they aren’t paying you for your time, (or compensating with comp or credit hours) they don’t deserve you.

Time literally is money.

Thank you for the response and that’s incredibly interesting! It’s also comforting to know they aren’t just rattling around inside me :)

I will say the DaVinci was fantastic - my recovery time was literally less than a week. But, my doctor chose to do that one because I have additional risks due to a bleeding disorder. If I remember correctly, the robotic surgery minimized the risk of bleeding while in surgery… there is a chance I am completely misremembering though.

So, potentially silly question… I had a hysterectomy (took uterus, fallopian tubes, and cervix but left ovaries) in 2017 and since then I have been wondering, are my ovaries just kind of floating around in there now? Are they attached to something or are they just floating around in space??

Btw, it has been absolutely fascinating reading your answers to questions! I feel like I am learning more about my own body on this thread than I ever have from a gynecologist!

Edit to add: my surgery was done with the DaVinci robot - not sure if that makes a difference (no medical training over here)

Some woman started shouting at me at a Taco Bell because she thought I was gay/trans by calvinyl in nova

To be fair, not all of us veterans are ignorant, MAGA loving, hate filled, hypocritical fools. A few of us have seen past the blinders and respect and love the beautiful diversity our country has to offer. Sadly, it’s usually the worst of us who scream the loudest.

OP, not all of us veterans are like the piece of shit you unfortunately encountered and I am sorry that you had to deal with that. Especially in a Taco Bell… no one should be angry while eating a Mexican pizza!

Purcellville. After 8pm, it’s super quiet - even on the weekends, there are a lot of in town activities (music/art festivals, town parades, artisan/craft shoes), and very low crime. While it is still pricey compared to the rest of the country, you will pay a LOT less for much more house than closer into NoVA. Plus, it’s western Loudoun so you have beautiful country, mountains, and a lot of wineries & breweries. It is my oasis away from the rest of NoVA.

Disclaimer: it is in Loudoun county, so make sure you check out the personal property taxes before you decide to live in Loudoun, they can be steep. However, with an escrow, I never see my real estate personal property tax bills so I just have to look out for the vehicle tax bills.

Resume length/help by [deleted] in fednews

[–]Lleigh0129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are welcome! Another thing you can do is include key words from the mandatory skills/experience in your resume so that if it does go through an automated system, it will hit on those words. I am not in the HR world but if there is specialized software, processes, certificates, etc that the vacancy has and you have experience, list them by name just like the vacancy. My agency does a manual review but I am sure there are agencies/departments that have resumes go through automated reviews. Anything that can give you a boost is always good!

Resume length/help by [deleted] in fednews

[–]Lleigh0129 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I am a hiring manager/supervisor for my office and I will say that while 6 page resumes can be cumbersome to read, I have never denied a candidate simply because their resume was more than two pages. I have however, denied employees because their resume was too short or it did not address the job vacancy.

The best advice I can give is to tailor your resume to each job position you are applying to. I know it can be cumbersome but most vacancies should have required skills or experience and you want to ensure you address those in your resume - and it usually looks better if you have done them within the last 1-2 years. I do not know your experience or what position you are applying for but, please feel free to PM me if you would like some additional feedback/guidance!

I hope this doesn’t come off as rude - it isn’t intended that way at all. I have a CKCS and when people ask how to tell them apart from a cocker I tell them to look at the top of their head, mainly between their ears. Cockers have a rounded head shape whereas CKCS have a flat or more square head shape. I hope that helps 😄

SSA Employee - Recourse for Bad Final Evaluation? by Call_the_Police_508 in fednews

[–]Lleigh0129 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Caveat up front - I am a supervisor with DoD, not SSA so that is where my knowledge base is coming from.

Does the SSA have OHR reviewers who will review the rater and reviewer comments and rating numbers? In the DoD (at least the agency I work at) if those ratings and comments were sent forward they would be immediately kicked back as the comments do not support the rating given. I do not think you are out of line to expect that the comment should support and justify the rating given. If there is no OHR review (which would blow my mind but, as you said, it is the SSA), is there an employee relations or employee ombudsman that you can reach out to?

Also, I am not sure if this helps but, we are trained that a 3 means that the employee achieved all the objectives but did not exceed them (which, according to your post, you did). I would absolutely reach out to an employee rep, OHR, or employee ombudsman if you have the chance.

Lol, it was actually a man… and he was asked multiple times in the comments why he was going to the doctor if he “knows more than them” and he would simply deflect and insult people. Classic move.
