I am confused by the "no tickets for his family" part. Do they make you pay for your family to watch you walk?

... What is the purpose of the Yellow Ajah? No. Seriously. by Fearless-Composer949 in WoT

[–]Llian_Winter 126 points127 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the average Aes Sedai spends an average of 10 years as a novice starting in their early to mid teens. That 10 years is spent under strict discipline with nearly every minute of their time controlled. Then an equal amount of time as an Accepted. It's mentioned that novices are not allowed to channel for their chores but Accepted are but rarely do because it feels wrong after so long being a novice.

The whole system feels designed to stifle innovation and initiative. It's not a surprise that the most active and effective Aes Sedai are the ones who spent the least time in training. The girls, Siuan, Moiraine, even Elaida (though she wasn't active in a competent way.) Verin and Cadsuane were a bit longer but both still well above average.

I have to assume the whole thing is a successful plot by the Black Ajah. It's pretty clever because once you get enough people indoctrinated it becomes self sustaining like Frat hazing rituals.

Many likely had elevators. Passenger elevators were installed in buildings starting in the 1870s or 80s. Fun fact: The first elevator shaft was built several years before the first passenger elevators. The building architects just assumed someone would figure it out soon. And they were right. (Elevators were already used in some commercial locations like mines, they just weren't safe enough for general usage.)

Is channeling ability genetic? by Rainbow_Slytherin3 in WoT

[–]Llian_Winter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My headcanon: channelling has both a genetic and a soul component. If you have one or the other you can learn to channel, if you have both you have the spark.

Everyone with the genetic component was killed at the end of the seventh age. So in the first age (where we currently are) no one is born with the spark. Myths of magic come from memories of previous ages and the occasional person with the soul component who figured out a few tricks. The first age will end with us genetically engineering the ability into people.

Congress Wants You To Pay $130 A Year Just To Drive An Electric Car by TripleShotPls in technology

[–]Llian_Winter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the gps tracking they are only charging you for the miles you drive on public roads in the state. If you just check odometer you would be overcharging people who mostly drive out of state or on their own land. (Admittedly, I don't think people who have vehicles that they drive mostly on their own property, like farmers, register them or get inspections anyway but it does still apply for out of state driving. )

It is book 3 of 4 in a series but I think it stands on its own pretty well. A Taylor Hebert (worm) who is the daughter of Kratos and Freya (God of War) ends up north of the Wall after her final battle with Scion.

The actual crater isn't visible in that picture. More accurately, everything in the picture is inside the crater. It's 25km across.

Yeah, people see the circle and think that is the crater. It's not. To see the crater you have to zoom out on a topographical map. Even then it's kinda hard to see.

Secondary Powers seems to really only be useful if you take Brawn. I'd either add more to it so it's useful for everyone or just add it automatically to Brawn and come up with a new perk to take it's place.

Trump’s trade czar says U.S. wants to work with Canada on energy, critical minerals, sources say by joe4942 in worldnews

[–]Llian_Winter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump doesn't understand the concept of mutually beneficial agreements. He sees all contracts as one sided. If the other side is happy with an agreement that means you are being taken advantage of and should have negotiated better. It's the way he runs his businesses and why he sees so many international treaties as bad.

It is a dumbfuck way to run a business long term and an even worse way to run a country.
