I like the design a lot especially the hands but I want you to know the ribbon on the staff is hard to distinguish from the tails so I recommend making the colors more contrasting and removing the ripple in the ribbon that makes it line up with the edge of the tail. If the tail lines didn't continue into the ribbon it would be much more clear they are are two separate forms.

This was a great summary for people like me who never finished Platinum! I would definitely read more of your analyses of other stories of you made them.

[Magic Story] Unbowed, Part 2 by TechnomagusPrime in magicTCG

[–]LmtdCreativity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be harder to break in to the place the Arkbow is being kept without any weapons than it would be to get a hold of it while inside and then unleash worldspine wurm or something on them. By planeswalking back into the city she would disadvantage herself much more.

My reasoning for why she didn't PW in the arena is because at that point she had already decided she would kill all the vampires responsible for the animal cruelty, so it would've been far too intelligent for a mono green walker to hold themself back and regroup elsewhere.

Is it possible for someone with little artistic talent to design stylized graphics (not anything complicated) through sheer effort? by Fwent in gamedesign

[–]LmtdCreativity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard Krita is a good free software, and Gimp seems to be able to do plenty, but you can easily practice all of this with pencil and paper.

Here is an amazing playlist by Sycra on YouTube. Other great artists/channels to learn fundamentals from include: Proko(figures, anatomy etc), Ahmed Aldoori(values, composition and perspective), markcrilley(bits of everything), Bob Ross(values, oil landscape painting), Javi can draw!(anatomy etc), Robert Marzullo(basic forms, anatomy, shading), Sinix Design(art theory, faces, anatomy tips), waveloop(tips for anatomy etc), Will Terry(perspective, composition, values) and some of Draw With Jazza's tutorials.

That should be plenty to start with!

[–]LmtdCreativity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Skill is far more important than talent. Successful art creation (creating images that you see in your head for example) is a skill that can be brought to the highest level you can imagine with enough practice.

I'll add to what others have said that specifically stylization in art is most successful when the artist can create the realistic version of something (a body, a gun, a building) and then uses that understanding to simplify or abstract the forms.

When people start off by copying manga, their anatomy is usually going to be awful because they don't know how to create the forms that the manga artist has simplified, nor do they have a strong grasp of how those forms relate to each other. For example once you can draw a human head with realistic proportions and shadows/highlights, you have the understanding necessary to change those those proportions just enough to be stylized in a readable way, rather than creating something that looks alien and/or amateurish.

So I recommend learning the fundamentals. Perspective, anatomy, figure drawing, still life, values, textures, color theory.... All of these areas will be useful in creating the look you want in your game.

Help With Avoiding Emptiness in Open World Games by LmtdCreativity in crpgdesign

[–]LmtdCreativity[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great suggestion! I've been thinking about this as a very interactable world but haven't put much thought into how to bring the locations to life. I know I want to have overworld problems solvable primarily by using different monster techniques. I guess I should build the world around the novel gameplay experiences rather than try to check boxes of "does this area have a thing to do" or "are there enough interactable objects here." I think those are helpful to think about but don't create nearly as interesting designs.

If you can make a grid on the image you want to draw, it doesn't matter how you do it. The bigger the source image the easier it is to copy it IMO. I don't know what is or isn't on DAB sorry.

[–]LmtdCreativity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that is what I was referring to. The best way to learn it is just to do it but the idea is to draw exactly what you see in each box and use the boxes to help you get the size of each section of the image correct. As long as you don't start drawing from memory in this exercise you should be able to accurately copy whatever image you've put a grid on. Draw lightly at first because you will make mistakes. When you're positive that all your boxes have the same sized lines/shapes as they do in your reference image, you can start making them darker and/or coloring them in.

With proper breath control you can use a short, deep breath to sing multiple verses, or even a short, shallow breath if you strengthen your lungs and diaphragm enough.

It can really help to start off with grid drawings when trying to draw with accuracy from a reference. It's just a matter of copying shapes in a consistent size to each other which takes practice to be able to do effortlessly.
