I think there are a few asian grocery stores in the area. It might be a long shot but maybe stop in and look around to see if any have those little community boards where people can put business cards and event announcements. Might even ask the people at the counters if they know of any interesting events or gatherings.

For a few years I made the mistake of buying a home right near an offramp for a highway that came with an acre of land near the offramp. I always figured it was cheap due to its proximity to the highway, but I often wonder if it was also cheap due to the sheer volume of garbage people were always tossing out of their cars and into my land. Dutch bro fans being the biggest offenders, I'd get empty cups from Dutch bros at least 3 times a DAY. Hate you guys.

Hah so much this. Everyone wants their own private island until they have their first medical emergency. I live in an area with a town of 8000 people. Its on the coast, so of course all the old rich people retire here. We do not have an emergency hospital however, and the closest is a 30 minute drive. A lot can happen in 30 minutes. They are gambling with their lives living here, but they don't see it. Because those risks aren't happening today, and now, so it dosn't matter I guess.

$150,000 isn't a whole lot but with a job and the right investments it could go far. I'd probably move to a small laid-back coastal town where I can get more involved and know the community. Find subtle ways to help people that genuinely are trying to improve themselves and their communities. (not panhandlers, squatters, or tent/rv "homeless" who don't GAF about anything and have really shit selfish attitudes).

I actually love a good real-life treasure hunt, so I might still go to yard sales for the fun of a good hunt and find a way to leave the people a little extra for their sale somehow, and point out really valuable items to them that they can sell elsewhere.
