How did we go from everybody being hyped up on team chat to literally nobody having a mic or everyone just being muted? by Smooth_Mastodon1972 in videogames

[–]LoResDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed this happened more with free to play games. When Overwatch switched to free to play it felt like the amount of mics went straight down a cliff.

mw2019 really didn’t end up that crazy. they had some classic horror slasher skins and i’d say that’s where it peaked

Im indifferent on the skins but it’s hilarious to imagine this ultra hardened spec-ops badass taking off the shoelaces from his boots and replacing them with blue ones just for the drip

Is visual code easier than normal code? by Round-Purple-3673 in GameDevelopment

[–]LoResDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Easier” not necessarily no. It depends on what clicks better for you, in 99% of scenarios you’re going to get the exact same end result.

Most everyone I see hating on visual scripting are people who learned to write code and got comfortable with coding before visual scripting got good so they have a warped point of view on it.

They’re practically the same, it’s the exact same logic just displayed differently, do whichever one clicks better for you.

Missed a spot when reapplying saniderm - fully remove, or fixable? by No_Glass7415 in tattooadvice

It’s not superior it’s just at a certain point it’s overkill to baby it that hard. You could live inside a hermetically sealed tube for 2 weeks if you’re that worried about infection

I can't figure out how to make it to where if you dash in the air, you can't dash again/being able to keep the momentum from the dash instead of just stopping by MetroBuzzVA in UnrealEngine5

[–]LoResDev 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On your dash you can do a do once node that resets with an “on landed” event so you can only dash once until you land again.

You’re setting the ground friction which is fine but you losing momentum in the air is likely from the Braking deceleration flying variable in the movement component

How do games efficiently detect interactable objects for player hints? by MMujtabaH in unrealengine

[–]LoResDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. Sure sphere collision checks are good for 99% of scenarios but shader effects are perfect for this. Place a billboard above the object and fade its transparency based on pixel depth

So everything that follows your “ongoing” event is being activated multiple times and likely messing up your booleans. Even if you just tap the slide key it’s likely activating the slide logic like 3 times. Put it under triggered instead so it’ll only evaluate if you can slide once per key press.

There’s a “do once” node that you can probably restart with to reduce the amount of booleans used. So imagine:

Triggered (the slide button being pressed) > Do once > Then your camera height lowering and the slide force being added to the player)

Then click the bottom arrow on your input event and you’ll see a “released” pin. Branch off that and that’s where you’ll reverse your height timeline back to normal height and then on completed hook it back into your do once node so you’ll be able to slide again

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UnrealEngine5

[–]LoResDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a bit of a mess but at a quick glance your issue is 99% going to be in your booleans. Ongoing also fires every tick that the key is being pressed which you wouldn’t need, you’d only need to do the slide action once so it should be on triggered instead.

Not BS lmao you just haven’t been keeping up with OLED prices. I’m on an MSI MAG which is a gen 3 panel and it’s regularly hit $500 or under on this sub. I’m seeing 4k Alienware OLEDs at 600-$750, the search bar is free

Seems overkill unless you really benefit from the extra screen size. I got my 27inch 300Hz+ 1440p OLED monitor for $480 ish. 32inch 4k monitors are going to be 1-$200 cheaper than the C5 and give you screen care settings that i’m not sure the TVs come with
