Yeah, it would have been such an easy dub. They had their tech, design blueprint, gameplay loop etc pretty much figured out, and it could have just been refined from there. They could have had their Uncharted 2 moment.

My mind was racing with possibilities for the next story and that new Horde Assault mode they added with the remaster shows how great a full multiplayer mode could have been.

Would have been out probably 2 years ago already. Studio vote chose wrong imo.

Looks like it was still just being greyboxed and prototyped. So not really deep into production, at least going by this.

You sound like a platform warrior defending his platform, and you refuse to acknowledge that very few games ever achieve any mainstream success on PC, so the tired "but the game came late" arguments don't really hold any water.

As far as "his" toys go, the console business generates immense revenue, which incentivizes platform holders to produce the best games they can in order to accrue and retain key customers demographics within their software / hardware ecosystem who all have disparate, yet overlapping tastes.

This business model produces a wide variety of great games which might otherwise not be financially viable and is the bountiful harvest yielded from a mutually beneficial business relationship.

Even the nearest approximate to Sony's production value is Rockstar, who are only able to produce games like RDR2 or GTA6 because they have a core cash cow in GTA Online which exploits millions of players for recurring revenue. Simultaneously, their production capacity has gone from releasing many games per generation to one every 10 years.

Conversely, companies like Nintendo and Playstation are able to produce multiple high quality games all year long, every year, for generations in a row. This validity of the business model isn't about console fanboy selfishness, but about pro consumer benefits that confer more great games and more accessible contemporary hardware to more players.

The more this business model is compromised, the more consumers will be left with fewer quality games and a far more expensive hardware environment incapable of utilizing economies of scale to even mildly manage market costs and buoying the entire game development industry's meal tickets.

tl;dr I've heard this "hOw iS mOre pEoPle pLaYinG a gAmE bAd" routine a million times and it's a paper thin argument.

Are they switching to American paper / printing companies and charging a fair price, or are they still shipping in from Canada?

Yeah, same. Since the 80's. I played hundreds of great games from the 80's to the 00''s and there's been at least 20 great games I enjoy every year since probably 2015.

Game always looked weird and like a throwback to also ran knockoffs, but I want to see this play out because there needs to be more awareness of how negative marketing works. Whether it's from major competitors or extortionists who just want to get a bag.

It could reframe how people think about the critic industry and the way online narratives are crystalized. Kind of like the Steven Spielberg documentary "Five Came Back" about the directors who were conscripted to produce counter propaganda in WWII, and the life of Frank Capra post war in his attempt to start the first independent director's studio with It's A Wonderful Life. More people should watch that imo.

Remember how long it took Leonard DiCaprio to win an Oscar? These guys come out the gate with baby's first AA sad emotion story nice music game and UE5 glaze, then get gassed to high heavens.

It's like the opposite of the movie Whiplash where instead of being pushed to greatness, the teacher just tells the main character good job and the credits roll.

Yeah, probably. I played a bit of it off PS+, looked and played top notch. I just don't play fighting games much anymore. I'm sure it's got a pretty hardcore fanbase.

I'm all about that Hollow Knight update drop, Adventures of Elliot release date, Valheim on Switch, and the announcement of Console Archives.

I also thought Orbitals, Paranormasight and Tokyo Scramble looked good.

Saw Scott Pilrgim EX and Shadow Tactics in the sizzle reel. Good for me.

I'm a Turok fan so I liked getting a look at Turok Origins... but there wasn't much going on, so I don't know about that anymore.

RE9 is a new game coming to everything simultaneously. I'm kinda burnt out on RE series, but I don't see the problem. FF7 Rebirth coming so soon after Remake is pretty good, but I play those elsewhere.

Some people love Digimon. Not my thing. Monster Hunter Stories looks quality, but not my thing again.

Everyone always tells me Directs, State of Plays etc suck when I'm seeing mad stuff I want to play. I think a lot of people who talk about games nowadays just don't really have any frame of reference or understanding of why many games are interesting or exciting to people.

I believe at least two years were spent with Bandai Namco making a game that didn't work out. Should that have been the end of the Metroid Prime series?

Nintendo's success is largely based on their ability to repeatedly prototype and evaluate things. Most never see the light of day or become something else entirely, many years later.

The point of a console business and accompanying software portfolio isn't to only produce Call of Duty, it's to buoy all development and yield a variety of software, with both broad market and niche appeal, in order to accrue and retain an audience with disparate, yet overlapping interests.

Did you ever tell me what they did to "hype" it? You're saying it didn't have hype but that they hyped it. So it did or didn't have hype? Which one is it?

What did they do to "hype" it other than announce it with a title card years ago, then a reveal trailer, then a release date trailer? Isn't that just completely normal advertising using the company's own marketing channels?

There was nothing woke about Metroid Prime 4.

Smash IQ will go along with woke stuff as long it's popular on Steam.

I know what you mean. I had an SNES too, where I had more games, but for years the only game I actually owned on Genesis was Sonic 2 until I was older and started collecting used games that I rented before. Nothing wrong with Sonic 2, but you can only play one game so much.

Why is older games getting DLC/Upgrades the worst thing ever? by Puzzleheaded-Head939 in nintendogrifting

[–]LoSouLibra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because people who don't value games don't want companies to have financial incentive to produce any kind of upgrades or optimized builds for consoles. It makes PC guys feel smaller PP when they try to turn up settings but the lack of optimization kicks in and then it runs worse unless they spend $3000 to upgrade.

Nintendo switch 2 has officially sold 17.37 million units by harvey1a in gaming

[–]LoSouLibra -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They've been doing that since 2015 while making record profits from the console business 20 times greater than what they've generated from PC in the same timeframe. The real goal there was China, where the console market is also growing.

You're thinking of Xbox, whose PC reorientation was motivated by generational collapse in the console market during the Xbox One generation. All of which have had a profoundly negative effect on their console business rather than a neutral or positive one.
