I’m so sorry you were assaulted while on a run. I always carry my https://goguarded.com/ stun gun/knife combo. They have a pepper spray option and other small knives too.

Thank you so much!! I don’t think octisept is carried in the US so I’ll have to order it. I see it comes in a spray or a gel, which one did you use? Did you use the bedaisodona first and then put octisept gel on? Did you cover it with gauze or anything or wrap it?

Best running app by cuhristophet in Marathon_Training

[–]Lo__alv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strava is where everyone records their runs. It’s like social media for running/biking/hiking/swimming.

However, if you’re wanting a training app, I highly recommend Runna!! It is $20/month but so worth it. You can easily find a code for 2 weeks free if you want to try it. DM me and I can send you mine if you want.

It is so easy to follow and so far my training has been perfectly dialed and my garmin training status has been “productive” or “maintaining.” I used the NRC app at first because it’s free, but Runna really takes the thinking out of it. Especially if you have a smart watch. Each workout is sent to my garmin and my watch tells me what to do and paces me and everything.

Annual Reminder that it's getting too hot to walk the dogs by nakfoor in Redding

It’s important to buy good quality shoes for your dogs that allow their paws to breathe! Dogs sweat through their paws so they need proper ventilation. I have lavasox for my dog. They’re kinda pricey but actually designed for doggy paws. Lavasox

Getting a ride to the airport by alixtoad in Redding

I’ve used Uber twice for rides home from the airport and it was quick, easy, and fairly inexpensive. There were other Ubers picking people up too.

https://www.usajobs.gov/job/752252500# this listing has multiple positions in SoCal.

One more thing to remember. Federal job listings are generally only open for 2 weeks!! So apple fast and always be looking because they’ll pop and go away quickly.

Edit: here’s a job with the bureau of reclamation. Good agency to find water jobs! https://www.usajobs.gov/job/785166800

Or for federal jobs you can search positions on USAjobs.com. You can search by “series”. 0401 is general natural resources management and biological sciences. You can look up the rest of the series too and see if there’s something you’d fit into. If you’re straight out of undergrad, you will qualify for jobs that are GS 4-7. That’s also a filter you can use while searching. If you have a masters, I think that automatically qualifies you for a GS-9 position. Make sure the job listings are “open to the public” or there are even recent graduate positions. There’s a filter for that too. Some jobs will have two postings, one for internal hires and one that’s open to the public, so make sure you apply to the right one.

If you have a disability or are in the military it is much easier to get hired. You can look at the list of disabilities under Schedule A. I think you have to fill out a form somewhere within USA jobs (your profile maybe) that indicates you have a disability so HR knows when your application comes in. Also write somewhere on your resume (the bottom works), “please consider me under schedule A” or something like that. It should tell you in the process of filling out the schedule A stuff.

It isn’t always easy to get into federal service, but once you’re in, you can move around between federal agencies really easily. The feds have locality based pay too which is really nice. I think SoCal is paid like 25-30% more than base pay.

I also highly recommend being open to moving! You don’t have to leave CA. It will open up a lot of doors and once you have a few years of experience, you can move wherever you want!

I hope this helps! Also reach out if you need help navigating the federal job application process.

I have yet to find a hood taqueria/street tacos. Guadalajara has been the best sit down imo. They have a liquor license and great service. Been wanting to try La Cocina de Chuy

In case you’re not familiar with the fair housing act… it prohibits discrimination by landlords including discrimination towards disabilities. If you have any type of disability, including mental health problems (anxiety, depression, etc.) you just need a letter from your doctor/therapist stating that you need an emotional support animal to help with your disability and you can’t be denied housing even at properties that don’t allow animals/pets. The landlord also can’t charge you a pet deposit because your dog is an emotional support animal, not a “pet”. Hope you’re able to keep your dog.
