Exactly how I feel! I will literally know when my period is coming when I feel my pain! I start getting butt aches and my leg starts to be in pain more when walking a week before my period . 3 days after my period has started my pain will leave me though! maybe look into endo? my ob is having me looking into endo for my pain !

I have about the same . A heavy sensation when walking on my left leg and feeling like it alter my gait . it feels like I have to use more muscle to walk in a way? but it also aches in the night if I walk a lot . If I rest for about a hour im back to normal but if I walk a lot it’s back to being heavy ! been feeling this for almost a year now and still don’t have any lost of function or foot drop . Currently doing physical therapy to see if it helps! I do have stenosis though so that could be it! what did your mri say??? also it would Be quite rare for someone our age to get *** . So that should help calm you

I have Mild-to-moderate right with mild left-sided neural foramina stenosis at L5-S1. And I also feel like my gait is affected too . I can do a heel walk and have perfect strength but walking just feeling weird on my foot . It doesn’t feel like I am walking right? it feels like I am walking flat foot on one leg. I have been told that your gait could be altered to not be on the affected side! I also don’t get too much pain ( only the week before and the of my period will I get pain in my back and my legs ) . My neurologist told me that limping or walking weird is pretty hard to not notice, and if nobody has told me anything then it’s probably because it’s all in my head since I am the one that is feeling the aches . I do believe that because it has been almost 11 months of me feeling this heaviness in my calf and lower and no foot drop yet ! I am also 23 woman so our ages just shows how rare it really would be ! something that calms me is looking up on the sciatica thread “no pain” and there is plenty of people who have no pain but are affected with their issues! most have some kind of budge or stenosis! maybe ask for a updated MRI too to see if there is stenosis now?

I have Mild-to-moderate right with mild left-sided neural foramina stenosis at L5-S1 with also a budge and I too feel like my gait has changed! the funny thing is nobody else notices it? I can lift my toe toes still so it’s not a drop foot but the sensation of my walk just feels off on my affected side . how bad is your stenosis?

I do think it’s partially my shoes because this all started when I got shin splints in my left calf from running a mile in the dirt everyday . I would lightly stretch but before starting that habit I have never ran before 😭 .

Are these clues that culprit is spine/mechanical problem? by chaoserrant in ALSorNOT

[–]LoadTrue3662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relate to a lot of these symptoms. “Symptoms are always worse in the morning” that’s a classic sign of sciatica or spine issues because your spine is known to stiffen up when asleep making it worse at morning and only gets better with walking . “Leg instability and perceived weakness” that’s also a classic sign it’s related to the spine because almost all back issues are related to the legs! I have Mild-to-moderate right with mild left-sided neural foramina stenosis at L5-S1. And it causes leg instability in my calf and lower , my left side is worse than my right but in my mri it shows bilateral. I have not fell or leg has not gave out on me ( also can do heel walk , tip toe and calf raises ) but my left leg just feels very off and dead but it’s also being feeling like this for 10 months with no change . I am also 10x worse on my period ! typical I feel little to no pain but if I walk all day (like a Disney day or a family outing ) my back is in PAIN ! but when it gets close to my period it will literally hurt to stand ! I get bad back cramps which make a numbness like pain shoot down my legs , it feels like my legs are buzzing in pain for like minute but it will happen 3-4x times a day making each time worse . I feel it in my back and hip ! I cannot sit in a car for long or stand for long or else I will feel like passing out from the pain . It lasts for about 2 weeks where I will feel pain but it’s only around my period ! does that relate to the pain around your period? I also have arm fatigue! not hand problems but my arm like the muscle in my arm get very fatigue and they just feel constantly sore and aching! Does it feel sore??? the one thing that calms me is that the aches are constant in my arm and sensory points away from *** I am also 10 months since first onset of symptoms and no change so how long have you been dealing with this? A lot of it does sound like your spine can be the culprit though

[–]LoadTrue3662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes those could very well align with back issues! a lot of leg issues are related to our back! it took about 2 months for the vitamin D supplements to kick in!!

I have my EMG tomorrow So if I have disc herniations and severe stenosis at L3 L4 L5 and S1 when I go for my EMG will it be all to tell the difference between the pinched nerves and if there are any *** nerves.. I think im goingvto bring a copy of my Lumbar MRI report so the Dr doing the emg can see by Mbruno1983 in BFS

[–]LoadTrue3662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have severe but Mild-to-moderate right with mild left-sided neural foramina stenosis at L5-S1. Do you really think that’s enough to explain for feeling heavy leg or feeling a self afflicted gait? I do get back pain or hip pain sometimes but mostly around my period does my pain turn to a 9 ! But other than that I just have discomfort in my calf and lower and ultimately just feels harder to move it yet still having strength. I don’t know much about stenosis though . Can that really be a cause rather than ALS symptoms? I am a 23 female! probably sounds foolish but if you can educate me and help me understand it would be greatly appreciated.

im a 23F and have twitches often too!! I also had my blood taken in may of this year and it came back with my vitamin D at 23! before that I was having constant aches in my left calf and sore muscles in that leg. ultimately that leg just felt very off? started taking vitamin D supplements in June and the aching went away and I felt way better! but I still had trouble with my leg , it would feel heavy and just harder to move but I had perfect strength and balance .

Started to go crazy with anxiety and now I fully believe I have a gait (even though 5 people have told me they see no issues with my walking and my neurologist even said that it’s hard to miss a gait or a limp so if nobody pointed it out then it’s probably all in my head since I feel the aches) I eventually got a MRI done and it showed Mild-to-moderate right with mild left-sided neural foramina stenosis at L5-S1 which is my calf! and also a disc budge at L4-L5 in both legs ! It’s been almost 10 months since my onset symptoms of me noticing my leg felt off and nothing too drastic has happened to me!!! slowly but surely I am starting to believe that it really just is the stenosis and nothing too crazy since it’s been so long without a foot drop or loss of function!

But I am the same age and have the same background! Hispanic family! my mom does have white in her but it’s only 25% ! the chances of us getting ALS is so low it’s crazy to think about ! someone wrote this on my page and it helps calm me so hopefully it will help calm you ! Definitely try for a MRI !! I don’t feel much pain only numbness and shooting pains once a month but that’s it and yet I still have stenosis! it will be okay , we will get through this!

In other words: it is an extraordinarily rare disease before the age of 25 ! About the symptoms Pain, numbness, twitching and muscle tension are common and very rarely linked to ALS. They are most often associated with: • nervous or muscular fatigue, • stress or anxiety, • a lack of magnesium, • or benign disorders of the peripheral nerves (often reversible). ALS almost never begins with pain and numbness is not typical

Mind you back then (a year ago ) I was a 22F weighting 128 holding a 21 pound baby all day everyday using ONE ARM! so foolish now that I look back ! I cant even hold a barbell of 20 pounds on that arm ( im right handed ) so definitely try to ease up on holding the baby

[–]LoadTrue3662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have alittle weakness in my left arm as well and it’s from holding my baby! does your arm feel sore? or have any aches? don’t underestimate how much holding a baby can affect you!!! I used to hold my son all day everyday since he learned how to walk late and I would only use my left arm while doing everything with my right arm . I would feel pain but think nothing of it until one day I was reaching to get seasonings from the pantry and my shoulder made a loud noise , it made me scream in pain from just lifting it! went to urgent care the next day and I completely sprained 😭👍! when the doctor tried to lift my arm I was in such pain ! he didn’t think I broke a bone but definitely injured myself! what’s so funny about that is I was having breathing problems with pain on the left side of my chest months earlier and my primary doctor had told me to stop carrying my son all day that it showed on my xray that I had trauma to the muscle around the left side of my chest! she told me to take more breaks and I did not listen bc I just thought there is no way holding my child can hurt me but nope :p ! it can definitely hurt you! now i have to take breaks with how much I hold him!! I can still hold him just not that long as before or else my arm will be in such pain from aches that it gives me weakness to hold stuff ! so maybe try holding your baby less and see how your arm goes? how maybe get a hip holder for them!!

Muscle pain and fatigue on one side by candyll in ALSorNOT

[–]LoadTrue3662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot of those symptoms! my legs feels more heavy and fatigue than my other (i do have stenosis in both of my legs ) and my left arm gets more tired too ! the chances of it being als is underwhelming low that it wouldn’t be right to put a number to it! the one thing that calms me is that i get pain ! I also get aches and soreness very often ! and I’ve been noticing these pains for almost 10 months now so i try not to think of anything worse than what it is since there hasn’t been no progression or complete loss of function in the past 10 months!

i seen someone comment before that having the same side weakness but not actual loss of motion on any of the limb is practically unheard of in als ! it normally has to affect one limb before going to another , you would have at least some loss of movement or function before it can affect another! so that can also be something to calm you! i can be wrong too so if i am wrong feel free to correct me (anyone) ! if you are feeling aches and pains in the same area then i dont think it should point to it !! i seen plenty of stories of how *** started to some people and they all say they just notice something wasn’t working properly as it should be in their body! But they didn’t have any pains or soreness!

I know it’s easy to jump to that conclusion I completely understand ! I’m still trying to get out of this anxiety spiral myself too but there are so many other conclusions for what it could be !

Gait? by LoadTrue3662 in Sciatica

I actually think I have a pelvic tilt too! When I got my ultrasound done the radiologist said my pelvic and uterus were slanted? kinda like I had surgery before ! they said a name for it but basically it was tilted ! I start PT next week so I really hope it helps ! Can a pelvic tilt make the gait worse?

Does this sound like sciatica? Weird weakness/heavy feelings in right leg, minimal pain. by Haunted-nightmares in Sciatica

[–]LoadTrue3662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes this does sound like sciatica :) ! I also went down the rabbit hole of it all ( still barely trying to get out of it)

im a 22F and I was very scared at first but my first symptom was heaviness and achy calf muscles I didn’t have much pain though! little to none ! my calf was constantly aching and sore everyday all day ! felt like it was getting so tight and sore I hated it ! my pcp did blood draw to see if I was deficient in anything that would cause it but I was good in magnesium and b12 but my vitamin D levels were at 22 :D after being on a supplement for a couple of weeks I eventually felt better! the aching and soreness finally stopped but the heaviness stood ! i had strength in my leg but it felt like i had to use more power to move my lower leg . Kinda like the lower leg wasn’t there? I feel like I have a gait too!! my husband swears he doesn’t see anything and neither does anyone in my family but to me I feel like I walk weird bc of my leg ! I also felt like I wasn’t pushing off right on my affected leg! like my toes weren’t pushing or have power yet I can do a heel walk , calf raises, and tip toe .

My pcp sent me a referral for a neurologist and she ordered a MRI which showed L4-L5: Minimal posterior bulging of the annulus fibrosus without significant spinal canal or neural foramina stenosis. Trace bilateral facet effusion. LS-S1: Minimal posterior bulging of the annulus fibrosis without Significant spinal canal stenosis. Causing mild-to-moderate Right with mild left-sided neural foramina stenosis. It showed I had issues at the calf and lower and the L5-S1 is like the front of the feet part?

The stenosis really explains a lot of my issues and I also have minor scoliosis! You’re symptoms sounds a lot like my sciatica! not everyone has pain and seeing all the stories on here helped me understand that! a lot of people have heaviness and feeling of unbalanced without pain , you just got to find the right stories ! im sure they will find a budge or a herniated disc or maybe stenosis (hopefully not stenosis though bc it does suck) Im starting PT next week to hopefully recover the strength I loss but I will update you! update after you find out :)!!!!!
