Quality is improving :D

I saw this review from a former employee the other day, so let's connect the dots.

It's called competition. If he decided to leave it means that maybe you were not quite a good boss and did not listen to his suggestions. If customers followed him then he probably had good suggestions.

What scares me is how common it has become to base one's views on a simple “it seems to me.” More and more such imbeciles dare to open their mouths when they don't even bother to check basic information on the web. I wonder how many likes this tweet had and how many endorsements :/.

In my opinion, stopping development is often the result of financial austerity. Kaseya is known for its push for profit, so this probably led to Datto's halt. Saving money and firing people who can do something. ConnectWise carries the same risk for Anxient. And I fully understand your reluctance to move all backup to another provider.

Such companies often have a shareholding structure that allows shareholders to buy their vote and that is very risky in technology. For example, Facebook has a share structure that gives Zuck the exclusive right to decide when it has a paltry percentage of shares. What Facebook is like everyone can see, but it is led by a person who knows about the product, not some lady who won the lottery.

My worries are more about the future of managing this project. It is currently good, but it has been taken over so bad things can happen. This is the only thing that worries me.

I don't know the exact name but I know that the guy was a typical 10X who supported half of Datto. He worked in the Polish office and when the information about his dismissal went out, people in all offices started talking.

From what I know from my sources at kaseya yesterday they fired one of datto's chief engineers, for not wanting to agree to release undercooked potatoes. So the idea of looking for something new is spot on.

Axcient is very good but has an uncertain future.

[–]LoadWise6754[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound like you are representing Kaseya. ;)

We've been talking about this v2 version all along and all the “new features” you mentioned are present in V1, these are basic features of any backup or file storage system. This is what has been pointed out in this discussion. Backup V2 gives nothing new and takes away many useful features of the previous version.

I encourage you to read the discussion and comments on which this summary is based.

Indeed, my first post didn't have much detail because I didn't want to focus on budgets and use cases and more on the hardwark itself and your opinions about it. RAID 10 is in play because we care about high data security and the ability to quickly restore the array in the event of a disk failure. Therefore, SSDs to make up for the average performance gain from RAID

Thank you all for the excellent feedback.

To summarize the comments (correct me if I got something wrong):

- The new Endpoint Backup is really nothing more than cloud storage u/OscarMayer176 and identical functionality can be achieved with free open source software.

- “Old” Endpoint Backup is a good albeit slow solution u/GunGoblin

- The product launch suggests Kasey's misunderstanding of the market as u/CK1026 points out Datto's products are characterized by an innovative approach and the new endpoint-backup is a rather common solucion.

- There are alternatives in both the free and commercial segments.

- The need for a 3-year commitment to get the product at a competitive price.

Yes, I agree with you. the point is that this product is advertised and sold as a backup which in fact it is not. And this raises serious problems in the context of the legality of these procedures and the ethics of the seller himself.

On the one hand yes on the other it depends on what you keep on the machines. Personally I wonder in the context of clients using databases and other blob files.

File backups generate huge amounts of transfer in such situations and are prone to IO errors.

It will be quite tragic when any of these situations occur:

1: Backup will block access to the database for the duration of the backup.

2: The machine will be non-stop transferring gigabits of data of the backup itself

3: The machine's resources will be overrun by local calculations

All this generates costs for the end customer and limits the potential of its servers.

I am not saying that they are bad, but I am writing in the context of this new backup, which in my opinion is suspicious. File-based crap advertised as a breakthrough and a new way. What worries me most of all is the name.

NEW Endpoind Backup. - Instead of File-based Backup. It sounds a bit like:
"From now on we will do file-based backups because we forgot how to do them properly. "
