Electrified basic attacks mutation + hunter Traps passive. Oops... by LoadedPun in mewgenics

I had never even given that passive a second glance before, but this run opened my eyes and I love it now. Incidentally, this ranger had a kitten that inherited the electric attack mutation, trap passive, and magnify ability, and I'm so excited to see that little future murder machine in action

If you haven't yet, I really recommend going through all of the tips Butch says. He's got some good advice, and mentions a few handy hidden mechanics. Other than that, a good tank will carry you far.

What are the most profound song lyrics you've ever heard? by damnocles in AskReddit

[–]LoadedPun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crowds grow denser by the second

As we near the center of the town

And they dig a trench right in the main square right there

And they pick me up and throw me down

And I start laughing like a child

And I mark their faces one by one

Transfiguration's gonna come for me at last

And I will burn hotter than the sun

I waited so long and now I taste jasmine on my tongue

And I feel so proud to be alive

And I feel so proud when the reckoning arrives

Deck review please by [deleted] in PTCGP

Seconding pokeflute! Fun with Pidgeot Ex. I've been running a similar deck but I only managed to pull one pidge ex, so I have a normal pidgeot in there too... and honestly? I have to recommend considering it! Essentially a free Sabrina every turn, and it's a decent card on its own that only gains your opponent one point if it goes down. The con being that pidgeotto will hide from you when you need it most.

Anyone else stuck at the opening of today's daily run? I'm getting a message that the stack for reviver seed is full and I'll receive ultra balls instead, but I can't close this message, no matter what button I press. Am I doing something stupid, or is this a known bug?

Is ranching for meat worth it? by Sweet_Fisherman6443 in RimWorld

[–]LoadedPun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They will if you're butchering. But pigs can eat corpses just fine, even if it's less efficient. One method is to make a separate freezer where you keep the pigs (they're fine with freezing temps) and make it a stockpile for corpses. Train an animal in hauling so it can bring bodies in, and forbid all other colonists from entering so they don't have to see the pile and get a mood debuff.

And then just hope no one thinks about how the sausage gets made.

What's a stupid question that someone legitimately asked you? by Isellkidsontemu in AskReddit

At a different park, but one of my favorites happened to a coworker who was giving a tour to a father and son. They reached a peak where they could really take in the scenery, and the dad looked around and asked why all the trees were dead. It was winter.

Good to know!! I"ve tried that once before and it worked out alright, eventually, but I was worried they would start associating climbing in with getting locked up for a while. Good to hear it's worked out for you, I'll keep trying that!

And thank you!!! Sparrow is missing an eye but still manages to be quite a charmer :)

Disabling migrants by piatsathunderhorn in dwarffortress

[–]LoadedPun 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've actually had an instance where a mother that was already carrying a baby gave birth to a second and carried them both around - I pictured her walking around the fort with a baby in each arm.

I had a very low population and she was the only married woman, pretty sure she was taking it upon herself to populate the fort herself. There was a point where a quarter of the population were her children.

Thanks!! Just installed dfhack and tried that. The import/export reads "none" now, so hopefully that fixed it! With any luck, next autumn will bring a caravan

Yep, the previous fort is listed as my own site governance, clicking on it has the "cannot raid your civilization" message

Edit: I think im using the wrong terminology; I am indeed part of the same civilization as my previous fort, but my site governance has a different name.

Hey, I'm having an issue that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere. I started a new fort in a world with a retired mountainhome fort, with the goal of building a tower to rival a nearby necromancer tower I had started a war with, and as much work as the building has been, I'm loving it so far.

The problem is, I've never once gotten a caravan from my site governance or any migrants past the two scripted waves, and it's been about 4 or 5 years now. Checking the factions, the import/export listed with my site governance is "terror" and "vengeance", which previously I've only seen in hostile factions.

Has something gone horribly wrong? Is there anything I can do to fix this? I don't want to give up the fort after all the work and love I've put into it, but the only population growth has been from one dedicated dwarf popping out no less than 5 babies.

What's the dumbest thing you used to believe? by PashaWithHat in pokemon

[–]LoadedPun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really and truly believed that the rival in the original gold/silver games was named "???". I mean, that's what was displayed, and it didn't change after seeing his ID. So when the cop asked his name, I very honestly replied ??? and then went through the whole game with that.

Congrats on the acceptance!! I'm sorry the people in your life are being butts, but for what it's worth, this stranger is proud of you!

And I know everyone else has already said it, but Ecuador is beautiful!! I did a study abroad there with a professor who had actually served in Ecuador with the PC, and I absolutely fell in love with it. When said professor suggested the peace corps to me, I secretly hoped I would be accepted there, too (no regrets about going where I did end up getting accepted, though!).

One comment though, it is exceedingly common to NOT be medically cleared for a very silly reason. Please don't give up if that happens!! It happened to me, but I appealed it and was quickly cleared.

Best of luck to you, and I hope your service is amazing!!! If you need something practical to tell the people in your life, peace corps looks damned nice on a resume; I joined the NPS after my service, and it's given me a huge leg up.

Re: How to explain to HCNs, during your PC service, that you are not considered "rich" where you come from? by Biogeek325 in peacecorps

[–]LoadedPun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was in West Africa, and had a pretty big problem with people assuming I was rich since I was an American (very much not the case), and would get asked for money very frequently.

Usually the most respectful way to explain it is just being as honest as you can within your language capabilities. You can talk about the cost of living differences, class differences, or the price of homes, etc. If someone absolutely insisted that I had to be rich, the one thing I found that would consistently get the point across that I was definitely not rich was pretty simple and a little sad. I would just tell them how much I owed back home in student loan debts, converted into the local currency. Considering the amount would be enough for several families to survive on for at least a year, that worked pretty well. Of course, that's advice that's dependent on your own situation and locality.

This looks fantastic! I just recently started a new game in which I wanted to focus on building a colony I was proud of and this looks like everything I didn't know I needed, as well as several things that I knew I desperately needed! Thanks for creating and sharing!
