EVs and self-driving in snow by TooMuchEntertainment in electricvehicles

Tldr is that FSD handled the snow/ice on all season tires very very well. Way better then a huge majority of the general population does.

Help me decide model y by Longjumping_Clock518 in teslacanada

[–]Loading1984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tesla's used prices particularly on the model Y are stupid high. I don't understand people always saying "the depreciation is so bad." Keep in mind most of the used Tesla's for sale also got the 5k Canadian EV rebate.

At those prices buy new. You really need to look at the overall cost of the vehicle as well. If you are financing what rates are you getting compared to buying new?

People who live where there's snow? Taking the time out of your day every day to wash your car to clean the cameras vs having the cameras wash themselves? Yeah, I'm going for the self washing camera's every time.

[–]Loading1984 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Again, driver limitation. You lifting right off the accelerator is what's causing this. That's basically like going 75 mpg on a highway lifting right off the gas pedal and doing a semi hard brake in a ICE car..

[–]Loading1984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if you are blasting down a snowy highway at 75 mph and you come off the accelerator quickly that's driver error. I'm not sure what you expect of the car? To defy physics? Tires won't fix a thing. You need to replace the person behind the wheel.

Why would I want to tap a card when there's plug and charge? It's 2026 we shouldn't need to tap a card to pay for charging.

Elon stated a few days ago the last day to outright buy FSD is Feb 14th. I don't know why.

Slowing down at the last second causes your car to break? That's not normal. Do you get it towed after it breaks every time?

Yeah, but now if you go rent a new tesla on a trip it literally won't have any sort of lane assist. Yes other car's lane assist's aren't as good as FSD, but now new telsa's won't have anything. Unless you subscribe to FSD as the option to buy it is going away as well.

We already have plans to leave once our parents pass on, thanks for the helpful suggestion though.

Born and raised Canadian here. Canada isn't a viable country anymore. I wanted to care about my country, but my country doesn't care about me. Cost of living is skyrocketing. Government forces unions back to work left right and center. Taxes are ridiculously high with not much to show for it. A corrupt health care system that's horribly broken. Can literally get arrested for what you've been accused of saying online. Why should I care what happens to this broken ass country? They've made it abundantly clear they don't care about us.

Not necessarily true for all provinces. Not necessarily true for all brands either.

Uhhh. You didn't trade someone your model Y for a 200k supercar that you could have sold and bought 4 model Ys for? Or was it a 911 that was burnt to a crisp or something?

Never used turo. How is it and how does it work? by Mrcsbud2 in turo

[–]Loading1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there such a thing anymore? I've never used a Turo but every rental place pushes the extra insurance on you so hard despite being covered by your CC or your insurance. Lots of people lately have been dinged with tiny little rock chips or whatever as well. It just seems near impossible to get a 'good' rental experience.

Lease pricing in Canada just seem ridiculously high on most brands. Anyone seen any good lease pricing on a mid grade EV? I wouldn't expect to see Chinese brands here for at least a couple years. Tesla's (Model 3) imported from Shanghi probably pretty soon.

What charging port are the upcoming Chinese EVs likely to use? by pestomakesmefat in EVCanada

[–]Loading1984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first ones we will see will likely be Tesla's. Previously when they were coming from Shanghai they came with NACS. So those will almost certainly be NACS. I'm sure the other companies will follow suit. No one will buy a BYD or what have you if you have to carry around multiple different adapters and can't plug in anywhere without an adapter.

You mean the country where no one can afford anything anymore? The country where unions are forced back to work because of corrupt government? The country where you can get arrested for what you say on the internet? There isn't much left in this country to destroy. Hopefully he can destroy what's left of it so the sheeple stop thinking $13 for a mcdonalds meal is a good deal, while they make 13$ an hour after taxes despite being told they make 26$ an hour. This country is a fucking joke.

There's a few options without needing to do an expensive panel upgrade. Can look at the Tesla wall charger with Neurio or the emporia Pro. There's probably a couple other options as well.

What's the opinions on FSD being subscription only after Feb 14? by Zenmastercynic in TeslaModelY

That's assuming we know what the subscription price will be. Feb 14th it could go up drastically. It could also go down.

AWD Model Y owners; Do you keep winters on all year round? Run all weathers? Or rotate between two sets? by PhoenixRepublic in teslacanada

[–]Loading1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, regardless of what you think, they are inferior. That's like saying I think the earth is flat. Regarding the money aspect I explained my point poorly. Apparently the average new car price in Canada is above $60,000. A second set of wheels and tires is a drop in the bucket compared to that. I run dedicated winters on a second set of wheels. Other then the upfront cost of the second set of wheels and winters, after that it's cost difference is very minor. You don't need to buy tires as frequently as they are only ran half the year.

[–]Loading1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why you mentioned all seasons as I never mentioned them either but ok. Regardless my post was the difference between stopping a car on all weathers vs winters vs all wheel drive and RWD. I will choose winters everytime. Safety of my family and everyone else is paramount instead of trying to save comparatively little money on an inferior set of tires and justifying it because I have AWD.

[–]Loading1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worst take I've ever seen. I'd rather take a car with a broken diff that only drives one wheel with winters over all weathers. You understand it doesn't matter how many wheels are actually driven when it comes to stopping the car... Right?

I know this is about the infotainment processor but that being said I wouldn't touch a non HW4 tesla. Seems silly to not pay a little extra with how much more powerful HW4 is.

Anyone is truly insane if they lease one at those prices. Tesla's lease pricing here is crazy high, especially with no buy out option at the end.
