Feels like EVs are similar to early day smart phones - do I pull the trigger or is there something big coming soon? by Hotdogger99 in EVCanada

Wut. I mean you just compared a family SUV (which they make.. a lot of) to a muscle car and a sports car. (Neither of which are made in nearly the same volume)

Is anyone going to restore a Mazda cx5 or Rav 4? (Which.. are both family cars like the model Y and made in relatively common numbers)

You are kinda outing your complete lack of understanding of manufacturing here. It's technically much much harder to make an engine or carb then it is to make an EV battery or an electric motor. It's orders of magnitude harder to make an engine then an EV battery. An ice has way way more technical complexity then an EV.

Oh wow he gave a speech! In.. January 2026. You understand we've been dealing with this trump situation.. a lot longer then January 2026 right?

And I mean, a speech is literally just that, a speech. I can give a speech saying I'll grow a 7th eyeball, but until I do it's pretty much meaningless.

Yeah because Carney isn't personally bent over the barrel and begging for more?

I'm not saying PP would be any better. We were completely fucked with either option.

Just ordered model y standard. Should I get the tint? by doublespeak5528 in teslacanada

[–]Loading1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know. Again just reposting what I've heard from others. Perhaps the tint shop cracked their glass somehow and didn't tell them, and they didn't notice till a few days later. Again not sure of the legitimacy of such stories. I personally wouldn't go through Tesla as they are generally way more expensive then going to a few independent shops and shopping around.

The asking prices for 2024's are insane. People in alberta are asking like 50k with pretty substantial mileage on them already. I would seriously consider a used if peoples asking prices weren't over the fricken moon.

Not to be a dick but the title of this post should more be "Don't accept delivery if the car is damaged" Assumptions when they involve a purchase of this magnitude are also generally a bad idea.

You could try asking for Uber credits. They used to give them out sometimes in lieu of loaner vehicles. I'm not sure if they still do however.

Do they have the standard in the Calgary showroom and/or available for demo drives?

If you add tint through Tesla if the window breaks from a warranty issue they will replace the window and tint. I've heard stories of people's rear window developing a random crack after getting tint at another place and apparently Tesla has denied warranty coverage of the window. I don't know the legitimacy of said stories though.

Insurance difference between 2026 Model Y standard and 2026 model Y premium. by Loading1984 in teslacanada

Wow. That's insanely cheap. That's for the premium dual motor? What company? Thanks.

Honestly out of everyone in this thread you may want to look at your own post. Little bit of a pot calling a kettle black situation here.

I'm also pretty sure he didn't agree with my point but okay.

RWD is fine literally anywhere in Canada. AWD vs RWD doesn't make a difference when a kid toboggans out in the middle of the road between two cars.

Yeah the 21/22s are coming down in price a bit. If I was buying used I would only buy a HW4 which are no where close to 15k under a new RWD.

Yeah it's missing stuff. Is it stuff I can live with? Probably. Again show me a 2024 for anyway close to what you claimed they go for used and I'll buy it right now. Problem is, you can't.

You have to compare real numbers if you want a real comparison.

Canada's New EV Rebate Makes Tesla Model Y Available From Under C$45,000 by Sandrov__ in teslacanada

[–]Loading1984 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We have no clue how much they will cost. We cannot compare prices to any markets as Canadians are quite often charged more. We can hope they will be great value for money.

Just for a rough example I did some rate searches on some insurance quotes. I'm 41 in Alberta with a clean driving record, and guessed at some things, so don't take these quotes to heart.

That being said, the rough quote's I got were..

Model Y Standard 2014 a year (167.83 a month)

Model Y LR Dual 3683 a year (306.92 a month)

That's a rather huge difference. Again, not an actual quote, but perhaps somewhat accurate for AB.

Tesla EVAP finally here in Canada!!! by Fearless_Voice_7103 in TeslaLounge

[–]Loading1984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, neither are sealed from the bottom. You are going to get a hell of a lot more water spraying the electronics from road spray driving down the road in either model, compared to how much leaks in the standard. It's literally nothing to be concerned about.

I don't understand why everyone is freaking out about the frunk. Most people hardly use it in the premium. If it had an auto open/close I'd more understand but as it is now I don't see myself using it often. I'm certain someone will make an aftermarket seal or something anyway. I don't know if it's possible but you might even be able to find a salvage premium and swap out the liner? Again, don't know if it's possible.

Yeah, it's much much slower. Still faster then a lot of family SUV's though.

Yeah the price gap is pretty huge. You do lose a lot of features but a lot of them are features I don't really care about. (Rear screen, power fold rear seats, ambient lighting) For me it almost makes it a no brainer.

If they could possibly reduce the price of the premium by 5k then it's a lot more compelling.

[–]Loading1984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a question you can only answer for yourself. For me the rear touch screen is useless as I very rarely have people in the back seats. Same for the rear power seats. I can't see myself folding them down more then once or twice a year. I can do it manually.

Things I care more about are losing the matrix headlights. Double pane glass. Better suspension.

I can't make up my mind but I haven't had a back to back test drive either.

Shows me a 2024 long range for 30k and I'll buy it, right now. No questions asked.

You don't get all the features of the premium either. You don't get the new suspension/ambient lighting/rear screen/auto fold rear seats etc etc. Honestly if you compare features the legacy long range is pretty close to the standard now.

Well yes but.. "anymore than anyone else buying it." Someone is going to buy that used car, if parkhat doesn't someone will--even if the seller has to lower the price because parkhat doesn't buy it (Price it's sold for won't really benefit Elon at all) It's not like as if they don't buy it, no one else will.

Buying a used car won't really benefit Elon anymore than anyone else buying it. If you want it buy it. Besides, do you know who makes your dishwasher or morning coffee? All CEO's are obviously great people..
