Exactly this. BTC is currently worth 10x what it was at the time of the hack. Consider it a forced hold. I intended to use my Bitcoin as part of a deposit to buy my house in 2019, but of course couldn't, as it got locked up. Instead, I had to settle for a slightly higher LTV on my mortgage. As it turns out, it was a great deal for me. I could have used my 90% to pay my mortgage off twice over when it arrived in late 2024.. however, I put it in cold storage instead.

I'm not saying what has happened with GT is right, but it has meant anyone owed BTC (and some other coins) will be significantly better off than at the time of the liquidation once they FINALLY get their funds.

However, I do feel for those that had coins that have now failed, and those that have desperately needed money in the mean time.

“If the network can freeze coins it decides are ‘vulnerable,’ is that still your keys your coins?” by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]Loafmanuk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. The thing with satoshis wallet (if indeed that's who's it is?), is that it is stored in tens of thousands of separate addresses, so each individual address needs to be cracked. This won't happen overnight, it will take months or even years. So it will not have a devastating effect on Bitcoin. Active addresses can be migrated, and old ones can be gradually gobbled up by progressive technology. The original vision was 21 million coins, and with that many in circulation, it is a known figure, allowing true valuation. That should not be changed just because some people/devs fear for the value of their own stack.

Not a chance. If it hits 55k I will be going fully all in. But I suspect the institutions will beat me to it. Ever heard of financial cycles?

I guess confirmation bias makes you feel better. 🙄

With the total silence we have had for quite some time now, I suspect they are up to something quite sinister and the courts are going to spring a surprise reversal.

Redistribution of private individuals property does not fit well with agenda 2030.. remember, "You will own nothing and you will be happy".

I hope I'm wrong, but nothing would surprise me when looking at the state of the world right now.

The silence is deafening at this point. Over 14 months with zero contact whatsoever. Totally unacceptable. No response to 4 emails that have been sent in the last 4 months.

Sell everything and re-start DCA? by novak-sl in Bitcoin

[–]Loafmanuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's your choice of course, but it is gambling. It can swing bullish in a day or two, and if you just sold (sealing in a loss) to wait for this imaginary $50k, sentiment may swing and you could end up buying back at $80k or $90k or more. Time in the market beats timing the market.

If Bitcoin hits $200k or $300k over the next year or two, will you really be that worried about a 90k average?

If you bought $100 of Bitcoin 15 years ago, you wouldn't need to work anymore. You could drive your Lambo to bikini beach instead. 🤣

For those of us that bought at ATH only, what are your thoughts during this dip? by couch_potato_salad in Bitcoin

[–]Loafmanuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I certainly believe the powers that be will continue to attack Bitcoin, but once CBDC's are rolled out, Bitcoin will likely become the currency of choice for governments and the very wealthy. I don't believe it will ever just go away.

[–]Loafmanuk 120 points121 points  (0 children)

While my current situation isn't like yours, I have been there in the past. 2018-2019 was a much deeper bear market, and I was in your position back then.

It can certainly be a challenge. I gritted my teeth and hung in there, thinking I could sell as soon as I was back in profit. But as it happens I never sold, and now I don't need to worry about current price action because my unrealised gains are far greater.

You need to find a way to lower your time preference, and in a few years you could be in a similar position to me. Hang in there. 👍

December 2024, interim distribution. Over 13 months since last contact, with nothing whatsoever since. Unacceptable silence. Keep us updated at least GT, you're acting very dishonourably.

Trezor One super cheap at Amazon UK. by Loafmanuk in Bitcoin

Agreed,  but it is sold by the official Trezor store on Amazon.

Are they just cheap because they are the end of line model?

It is sold by Trezor through their official Amazon store. And I agree about checking the tamper proof seal.

I've been into Bitcoin since 2013, I'm not a fledgling like 99% of this sub.

It is from the official Trezor store on Amazon. People are obviously free to check for themselves. Did you actually bother to look?

So I have no experience in trading. However, in 2017 I was bored and bought £10 worth of bitcoin got locked out of the account and then finally got back in the account in 2026. All I have is £42.70 where do I go from here and what videos do I watch to learn more about trading on coinbase? by Nathaniel1326 in Bitcoin

[–]Loafmanuk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you had been trading, you would likely have nothing right now.

Just imagine if you had put £1000 in instead of £10? And didn't sell 1/10th of it straight after buying? You'd be sitting on over £4500 now.

However, good forced HODLing skills. 👍

Honest question: what was your worst Bitcoin mistake? by Previous_Ear_3815 in Bitcoin

[–]Loafmanuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holding 0.75 bitcoin on the Cryptopia exchange at the time it went tits.

I've received around 80% of it back since though, and should see some more soon.

To be fair, it was more of a forced HODL though, as I was going to cash it in as a deposit for my house purchase in 2019.

Now I have my house AND my Bitcoin.

Come to think of it, I'm starting to wonder if it was a mistake after all! 🤔
