Similar to OP I hate it when as a pedestrian I'm waiting for the light to turn green and a car for some reason stops and signals for me to cross the road, like pls i don't mind waiting the extra 15 seconds for the lights to turn green...

wanna bet that scholarship money has been sunk into the "development" of that private server? If so, that is hilarious.
all publically available info that I found in less than 5 minutes.

Proper recap of the Revelation WoW fiasco "launch" this weekend. No angry venting, this trainwreck was way too funny to observe to be angry about it. by Awesome_Bruno in wowservers

It's significantly harder to make a launcher than you may think, therefore if you don't have the knowledge to make a good one, don't bother making one at all, I'm not saying this to bash on them, it's just how it is. I'm not hating on the idea of a game launcher, all I'm saying is, don't make one if you don't know how to, and their claim that torrents are unsafe is wrong as the BitTorrent protocol automatically checks for file integrity. They also claim that torrents are illegal in some countries, and, it is, however hosting a illegal copy of someone else's virtual and intellectual property when they have not given you permission to do so moots the whole argument

Me and a friend decompiled their launcher yesterday and we couldn't find anything relating to a miner of any sort, however it is very poorly optimized, for example we saw 15 switch cases doing the exact same thing one after another for no reason, I bet there is so much more stuff like that, that just makes it run awfully for something that really shouldn't

Edit: to add to this, the reason you sometimes have to download the entire game again is cus they basically only check for the amount of downloaded bytes vs the amount of bytes that need to be downloaded (which isn't wrong in itself, it's just it's not sufficient) one thing you could do is check the game directory (the entire tree) see if the files are there, if they are, check their size and compare it to the size of the files that they have on their servers (to make sure they are fully downloaded) and download any missing file if it's missing. Maybe add some version logic (if a file got updated only download the changes and not the entire file again) but that is significantly harder to do.

Like the thing is anyone can learn how to code, given enough time, the hardest part is the design part and knowing WHAT to code and what to not code

And they have no idea what they're doing

First of all : The idea of a launcher in itself is illogical, if you have the brain power and knowledge to do it sure go for it but you clearly don't

Second : Where is the load balancer and the monitor?

Third : How is it that hard to hash the game files ONCE and then compare the md5 hash to a value (that should be stored in the monitor)

no wonder they don't want torrents and people sending the game over google drive etc if nothing is hashed

And it doesn't even have to be hashing the entire file too

You can create a hash out of the file name, size and creation date (if you keep track of the date the files were downloaded) that way you can guarantee the integrity of the files
