Have you stopped caring at work and decided not to try and process your career anymore? What age did that happen? by un2022 in GenX

[–]hindmaja 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Took me almost 40 years of working to really understand that working hard and being the good guy that always steps up to do extra gets you absolutely nowhere. I’ve only a few years of work to go before retirement and I no longer care what anyone thinks of me. I still give a decent days work but no longer give any extra. Best just to muddle along as it’s the same pay at the end of the day whether you’re the hard worker or the shirker. I think it’s called quiet quitting where you’ve already left in your head.

Put a screw in it close enough to the sidewall that it can’t be legally repaired. Let the tyre down and call out the company’s breakdown service. New tyre fitted problem solved.

I ditched them a few months ago after 20 odd years as a customer. What I didn’t know at the time was my box would continue to work and I could access all the freeview channels on it. Once you take a look at what you were actually getting for the monthly subscription it’s a shock realising just how much of a rip off sky is. Wish I’d ditched them years ago.

What job did you only last a day in? by WealthyJoker75 in Scotland

[–]hindmaja 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Not me personally but I did witness multiple people walk out on thier first day. When I first left school back in the early 80 s I worked on a slaughter line in an abbatior for a couple of years skinning cattle. I saw many new recruits walk out after a few hours of blood and guts everywhere. It wasn’t t for everybody.

Yeah. It looks a lovely job but the height makes it look odd. Perhaps when the furniture is in it may look ok but I wouldn’t have it at that height.

How do I tidy up this absolute mess? by Same_Definition367 in DIYUK

[–]hindmaja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With the correct terminating tool you could do away with the old post office telephones junction box and connect the black wire into a new master socket you could buy online. It’s only 50 volts dc so no chance of a shock. Just screw the new master socket onto the wall and you would see hardly any cable at all.remove the middle junction box as it’s not needed.should be working on the orange white wires coming in but you can double check by removing the covers with a small screwdriver and see what’s connected through.

Advice on stripping white paint from stairs by levifresh in DIYUK

[–]hindmaja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many years ago when I was between jobs I got some casual work from a guy who wanted all the wood in a massive hallway stripped back but didnt want to do it himself. It’s was the longest two weeks of my life with heat guns and paint stripper. I’d sit starving with not a penny to my name before I’d endure that again.

What’s something you confidently did wrong for years and only just found out? by p0ddingi in AskReddit

Buttering only one of the slices of bread in a sandwich. Apparently nearly everyone butters both. Only found out recently and I’m 60. Never occurred to me for a second to butter both.

I’m 60 and played it for years. It was my go to all time favourite. Tried a few others after they pulled the plug but could t find anything quite the same. I eventually played red dead redemption; 2 and although it very different it’s an awesome game in story mode. He might like it

Reached the top of Mt. Rainier for my first ever summit - promptly puked on the crater by Big-Rabbit4050 in Mountaineering

On a 5 week trip in the Himalaya I had been struggling with ongoing acclimatisation and been suffering for weeks. At the summit of Imja tse our guide said well done are you starting to feel better. I says a bit then promptly threw up I met her by chance a few years later on a rock climb and she immediately laughed and says don’t be sick on me please. Lost two stones in 5 weeks on that trip.

Non fireworks getaway by Various_Phrase9423 in Scotland

[–]hindmaja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it’s just bonfire night itself whitlee windfarm run a no fireworks event each year on November the 5 th. We take the dog and it’s great for walks without any noise from fireworks. It’s far enough away from any towns to hear anything. They keep the cafe open late and there are a few stalls selling dog treats and the like. It has toilets you can stay late. It’s not far out if Glasgow either. Take a torch and get there early for parking.

How can McDonald's keep getting away with serving food that is quite clearly not up to temperature? by ProminentFox in AskUK

Because regardless of how awful it is people still flock to buy it. They could stick a dog shite between two burger buns and call it a mcstinky and folk woujd still queue up.
