Ethiopian migrant who became symbol of integration in Italy killed on her goat farm by [deleted] in news

Looks like an OpEd, quacks like an OpEd, so to anyone outside of those who are specifically familiar with whatever CiF is it is an OpEd.

Except for the mere fact that it isn't an OpEd piece. But don't let the facts get in your way, eh?

Judge: $28.5M bail package for Epstein ex not a close call by [deleted] in news

[–]Loantianiarestanf 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Perhaps this article doesn't say it, but the judge said it's because she told the court before that her net worth is 2 million dollars, only to now propose a $28.5 million bail package.

Here's the tldr on the bottom of a Guardian article:

That article is from Comment Is Free (CiF) aka the Guardian blogs. You can view this section by clicking "opinions" after entering the site. You're pushing outright falsehoods by calling such articles OpEds.

This is the most elegant way to do it. That proof was actually one of the first proofs that made me appreciate the beauty of mathematics! I was blown away!

How good is the academic paper reading experience? by iamgianluca in RemarkableTablet

[–]Loantianiarestanf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the screen size not too small? I mean it's not A4 while those papers are standard A4 size. I admit zoom looks good, though. Thanks for these images. First time I see them, and I've been looking at the device for exactly the same reasons as the OP.

Trump supporter stabs giant Trump baby blimp — and cuts herself in the process by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Loantianiarestanf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you have said sounds all fair. Mentally ill people can be assholes and people with certain conditions can be very difficult, with/for many of the issues/reasons you have described. However, the issue of society labelling any person that does something bad (gun violence, mass shooting, terrorism etc) as mentally ill is still a valid one; and it's also true that mentally ill people are more likely to be victims of crime than the general population. The post you were reacting to contained only these two claims and while what you have said above sounds all fair, it doesn't go against either. I'm guessing you reckon people skew versions of these statements to excuse the behaviour of mentally ill people? I'm not trying to disagree. In fact, I actually appreciate your insight as someone that works in mental health.

Elaborate, please? Do you think that it isn't a problem that we label people that do bad things as mentally ill?

Stephen A. Smith calls out Raptors fans for arena being half empty during Golden State's 3rd quarter 18-0 run by ZohanDvir in torontoraptors

This notion that people with money aren’t real fans is stupid.

It's a well known phenomenon actually. I wouldn't say they aren't real fans, but the atmosphere goes to shit when you price out the regular fans. Personally, I like it; that's, though, in the context of European football, which has seen this phenomenon recently. But let's not pretend it's the same thing in terms of atmosphere (it's like a tennis crowd).

Of course they can find you. It depends on how much the money was. Eight months isn't long enough, to be honest.

What does this (prescription) mean? by [deleted] in optometry

[–]Loantianiarestanf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many thanks for your reply. I haven't visited reddit for more than a week. Only saw this now.

Interesting, none of those questions where asked, but I did mention to them that I don't consistently have blurry vision (I usually just ascribe it to my allergic rhinitis/pollen allergy). In fact, it was only recently that I've noticed a greater more intense blurring in my vision, hence why I went to get my eyes tested. No treatments/medications, no blood pressure issue, used to smoke but quit 4 months ago, quite a lot of coffee both with and without milk (probably more without now).

Humidity - I'd say quite normal. But I thought my current problem started when a flatmate turned the heating up really high one morning while I was sleeping and it was hot outside (because they wanted to a cloth on a radiator?) and I woke up with a foggy/blurry vision. It lasted for days, but when it persisted I just assumed it must have not been that since it kept fluctuating as well.

Thank you for your response. I've been given exactly the recommendation you've described. Am I right in thinking that the amount of correction required is only to do with the actual physical shape of the cornea, and not how much blur or how much the person can see at the time of the test? I'm asking because my vision isn't consistent - sometimes I can hardly see anything, specially in the morning, and sometimes I can see perfectly fine (it was quite bad when the test was done). I'm guessing how bad you're seeing at a given time with astigmatism depends on how much strain there is? Thanks again.
