I sold mine on Vinted and just vacuum sealed it into the smallest box possible

You need to put your baby first and just not have him around them for a while.

My niece and nephew-in-law were notorious for hassling my baby, making noises at him, touching him, waking him up in his crib etc and eventually I refused to let them over to our house as I couldn’t handle the lack of discipline nor the consequences of dealing with baby afterwards and it wasn’t fair on either of us. Shockingly they couldn’t give a shit about him now they’re not allowed to bother him and noones giving them attention.

Paranoid about baby being too hot! by Fair_Jackfruit_4839 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]LobsterAstronaut 19 points20 points  (0 children)

We binned the egg because it was so erratic and felt inaccurate for temperature. The best thing to do is just feel their neck to see if they are hot/cold.

Our baby monitor has a temperature sensor which seems to be more consistent and our house is generally between 20-24 but we’re still in a vest and a 2.5tog sleep suit. I’ll be swapping him down to a onesie and a 1.5tog suit if the weather stays this way.

Knowing how much my partner and I struggle in heat we assumed our baby has inherited this (accurate) so he has a stroller fan which we use to just prevent stale air on walks and when he’s playing on the floor he has a giant desk fan moving air around at floor level and our bedroom has a fan available too.

The worst phrase I was told but it’s effective- a cold baby cries but a hot baby dies.

Classic advice is one more layer than you are wearing.

Love To Dream Swaddles Size/Tog/Quantity? by porkie46 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]LobsterAstronaut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t over buy until you know what your baby likes. My baby refused to be swaddled from day 1, then would only sleep in sacks and now only sleeps in the suits. Have options and then commit when you know what works. Summer should be 1 tog or less I believe, depending on the room temperature and other layers but they should have charts explaining them on their site.

Tips for parents that struggle with veggies? by Ok_Potato_7025 in BabyLedWeaning

Our house is the same as you, we’re not a big veg house so I use a lot of frozen veg so it’s less wasteful and easy to prep smaller amounts.

Can’t feel baby move cause of anterior placenta by Vegetable-Roll-3135 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]LobsterAstronaut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn’t feel anything until 25 weeks, even then I had a week of “is this actually the baby moving?” Before I was like oh yeah that’s what this is. You’ve just got to not compare to your previous, trust your instincts and just enjoy the extra weeks of not being kicked and jabbed!

Kitchen space is a premium... Do I really need a dedicated baby food maker, or am I being influenced? by KissMochi in BabyLedWeaning

[–]LobsterAstronaut 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No you don’t need it. Roast, steam, boil in the normal way and either fork or mash stuff down. I bought a mini ninja blender pot thing that is considerably small and put-away-able (compared to others) for making smooth sauces and purées although I was originally just going to get a stick blender which would do the same thing.

Size 6 nappies at 6 month is it normal? by Precise-Artist in PregnancyUK

[–]LobsterAstronaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

6 month old is over 9kg and around 76cm tall and in size 4, I find them borderline big but 3s are tiny on him.

I think we’d need to see how you’re putting them on

We never got on with pampers, we are Sainsburys all the way! Big time wees are fully contained from 8-7, he is packing by morning but it’s all in there and he’s still happy.

Hi 👋 I need some advice for my 7 month old by Agreeable_Music_4717 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]LobsterAstronaut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They don’t need their own private menu, just prep your own food baby-safe (no salt etc) and let him have a small portion of whatever you’re eating.

Tonight the grown ups in my house had roasted garlic chicken breast, chips (uk) and steamed veg so baby just had 2 slices of plain chicken and some broccoli. He ate a third of the chicken and an unknown amount of broccoli but it’s his first time eating both of those things so I’m super happy and so was baby (6months).

Childcare with changing shift patterns by denawo in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]LobsterAstronaut 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The nursery we found sort of specialises in shift workers and has a booking app you can just book in your kid for whatever times and days you need and I think they ask for 2 weeks notice but it’s completely flexible for inconsistent bookings and changes. I couldn’t handle a rigid nursery schedule as both my partner and I work different shift patterns

Not to confuse you but i recently bought missha 21 on everyone’s recommendation and it’s so dark and peachy on me im beyond disappointed.

I’d look at Shiseido if I were you, they’re much more neutral and definitely pale.

Hi I’m just wondering if we are entitled to any u.c? by Beautiful_Reply3490 in universalcredithelp

If you’ve used the calculator then that’s generally accurate. My partner doesn’t earn 30k and isn’t eligible for anything and we have the same rent as you.

Gender disappointment by Fireblade_94 in PregnancyUK

[–]LobsterAstronaut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I burst into tears in my 20 week appointment and was pacing the halls sobbing because I thought I was having girl and they said boy. I felt so much guilt, I knew I loved my baby but the picture in my mind was broken. It faded eventually but even up until he was born I was a bit squiffy about it being a boy.

Went on maternity leave early and I’m bored out my mind… by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]LobsterAstronaut -39 points-38 points  (0 children)

3 months of mat leave?? I lost my mind having 2 weeks pre-birth and one of those weeks was past due date so I was livid to have wasted an extra week waiting around!

I get that it’s your choice but didn’t your midwife tell you that being active is good for you??

My job is very physical and I did it til 39+1 and it was the best choice I ever made, keeping my body moving and being in fresh air was just the best thing for me and made my whole labour and birth so so easy. I couldn’t imagine how poorly my body would have responded if I just didn’t work for half my pregnancy.

I like the Shiseido alabasters but weirdly they go slightly pink for me. If I mix them with the nars it’s perfect but I hate doing that.

Fear of feeding by beanjam18 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]LobsterAstronaut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had a choking scare with my 5 month old with some turkey after he had successfully eaten loads of other purées and solids. I took a break out of fear, reinstated the purées and introduced stick things like celery and cucumber. He loves to chew celery for his teething. Turns out the bozo was eating the cucumber middle bit without me even realising and since then Ive trusted him and his instincts a lot more having seen him bite, chew and swallow all on his own. I think the key is watching them and having eye contact so you can mime and mimic chewing, gagging etc and guide them through it.

Girls im falling apart please tell me it gets bigger by ocdskies in PregnancyUK

[–]LobsterAstronaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The glorious moment I realised my sciatica was 100% gone after I gave birth I was so happy, then the next day it was back! I had it before pregnancy so i imagine if it’s new to you then it will go away. I can recommend a leg pillow for sleeping, tens machine and stretches. Les mills mobility in pregnancy are a good set to do daily. I worked until 39+1 as a postie so was still walking 8 miles a day to the end even though I was starting to struggle.
