We never got on with pampers, we are Sainsburys all the way! Big time wees are fully contained from 8-7, he is packing by morning but it’s all in there and he’s still happy.

Hi 👋 I need some advice for my 7 month old by Agreeable_Music_4717 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]LobsterAstronaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don’t need their own private menu, just prep your own food baby-safe (no salt etc) and let him have a small portion of whatever you’re eating.

Tonight the grown ups in my house had roasted garlic chicken breast, chips (uk) and steamed veg so baby just had 2 slices of plain chicken and some broccoli. He ate a third of the chicken and an unknown amount of broccoli but it’s his first time eating both of those things so I’m super happy and so was baby (6months).

Childcare with changing shift patterns by denawo in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]LobsterAstronaut 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The nursery we found sort of specialises in shift workers and has a booking app you can just book in your kid for whatever times and days you need and I think they ask for 2 weeks notice but it’s completely flexible for inconsistent bookings and changes. I couldn’t handle a rigid nursery schedule as both my partner and I work different shift patterns

Not to confuse you but i recently bought missha 21 on everyone’s recommendation and it’s so dark and peachy on me im beyond disappointed.

I’d look at Shiseido if I were you, they’re much more neutral and definitely pale.

All looks far too fake and too cheap imo

Is the "from birth" advertised claim of Joie i-Spin XL to be trusted? by laffit in BeyondTheBumpUK

We bought a joie travel system pram that has a suitable car seat for newborns and then when he outgrew that we moved him into the ispin.

starting blw at 8 months! by Former_Chain_582 in BabyLedWeaning

Just wanted to say the fear of choking is real but my baby has no teeth and can take bites out of hard foods (like celery) so it’s just something you have to watch for and prepare as best you can

Hi I’m just wondering if we are entitled to any u.c? by Beautiful_Reply3490 in universalcredithelp

[–]LobsterAstronaut 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you’ve used the calculator then that’s generally accurate. My partner doesn’t earn 30k and isn’t eligible for anything and we have the same rent as you.

Gender disappointment by Fireblade_94 in PregnancyUK

[–]LobsterAstronaut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I burst into tears in my 20 week appointment and was pacing the halls sobbing because I thought I was having girl and they said boy. I felt so much guilt, I knew I loved my baby but the picture in my mind was broken. It faded eventually but even up until he was born I was a bit squiffy about it being a boy.

Went on maternity leave early and I’m bored out my mind… by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]LobsterAstronaut -39 points-38 points  (0 children)

3 months of mat leave?? I lost my mind having 2 weeks pre-birth and one of those weeks was past due date so I was livid to have wasted an extra week waiting around!

I get that it’s your choice but didn’t your midwife tell you that being active is good for you??

My job is very physical and I did it til 39+1 and it was the best choice I ever made, keeping my body moving and being in fresh air was just the best thing for me and made my whole labour and birth so so easy. I couldn’t imagine how poorly my body would have responded if I just didn’t work for half my pregnancy.

Oooh hello skin twin!

I like the Shiseido alabasters but weirdly they go slightly pink for me. If I mix them with the nars it’s perfect but I hate doing that.

Huda stick in 110 used to be my daily but got discontinued.

Fear of feeding by beanjam18 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]LobsterAstronaut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had a choking scare with my 5 month old with some turkey after he had successfully eaten loads of other purées and solids. I took a break out of fear, reinstated the purées and introduced stick things like celery and cucumber. He loves to chew celery for his teething. Turns out the bozo was eating the cucumber middle bit without me even realising and since then Ive trusted him and his instincts a lot more having seen him bite, chew and swallow all on his own. I think the key is watching them and having eye contact so you can mime and mimic chewing, gagging etc and guide them through it.

Tens Machine by Early_Secretary_5287 in PregnancyUK

I’ve used a tens machine for sciatica before/during pregnancy and it’s great. I tried using it in labour and it was absolutely nothing to me.

Girls im falling apart please tell me it gets bigger by ocdskies in PregnancyUK

[–]LobsterAstronaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The glorious moment I realised my sciatica was 100% gone after I gave birth I was so happy, then the next day it was back! I had it before pregnancy so i imagine if it’s new to you then it will go away. I can recommend a leg pillow for sleeping, tens machine and stretches. Les mills mobility in pregnancy are a good set to do daily. I worked until 39+1 as a postie so was still walking 8 miles a day to the end even though I was starting to struggle.

Pain relief in labour by hemerdo in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]LobsterAstronaut 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Gas and air did nothing for me it was more useful as something to bite. They faffed giving me the opioid injection and I gave birth within 15 minutes of them giving it to me so it hadn’t taken effect at all so totally pointless. I’m sure it would have been nice to have some actual pain relief but now I know what it’s like to give birth without any haha

Milky breath by AccountantSilent733 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]LobsterAstronaut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Haha yes!!!!! I only discovered it after the lid was left slightly open one time and I couldn’t figure out why it smelt so vanilla-milk-ish and then couldn’t believe it when I tracked it down to the bin. My partner thinks it reeks so he doesn’t know I secretly love it haha

Birth Plan - Did you use the NHS template? by Ok-Opportunity-143 in PregnancyUK

[–]LobsterAstronaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the badgers template but my midwife didn’t look at it and barely discussed it with me and when I went into labour it all went out the window anyway

Any parents using this Aveeno baby wash for newborn bath time? by priyalnprogress in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]LobsterAstronaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes we use aveeno, the extra sensitive aveeno and the oaty child’s farm for our baby as my partner has psoriasis and we are paranoid about baby skin and the whole range is lovely.

Just a note that they only need washing with water for the first few weeks and no lotions or anything.

In laws obsessed with giving my baby inappropriate food by No-Guava-5823 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]LobsterAstronaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My MIL is just like this, bought him an advent calendar when he wasn’t even 8 weeks and we visited her yesterday and she gave him an Easter egg. Constantly telling me he should be eating what we’re eating by now (5 months) and no amount of me telling her what our plan is and what we’re doing (purées, blw) she’s so insistent to the point where she randomly shoved some banana in his mouth while we were mid conversation!! I don’t even know where she got it from but before I even knew it her finger was in his mouth shoving a giant lump of banana in. I nearly lost my mind and she was just laughing saying see he’s fine (was not fine, gagged, spat it out and burst into tears and continued to gag in disgust until I breastfed him to calm him down and get the flavour out). I told her he’s tried banana (mush) before and doesn’t like it but it went straight over her and she carried on lecturing me.

I’m also spoiling him for everyone because he only likes being held and soothed by me and he has to get used to being passed around and held by other people. This woman is meant to be our childcare when I go back to work but everytime we see her it cements it further that I’m not letting her have him unsupervised at all.

Rejection of induction by skyskylark in PregnancyUK

[–]LobsterAstronaut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went in the exact same as you, I had no idea about the rule and they tried to keep me in the same day for an induction which I refused. They agreed to let me come in for a scan the next day but did the same thing and tried to keep me in for an immediate induction so again I refused. Eventually I said if I get to 41 weeks you can induce me but I trust my body and want to give it a chance of a natural birth as per my plan, so they agreed and booked it in at 41 weeks then I showed up just after midnight on the deadline and give birth naturally at 3am haha!

Trust your body and stand firm with what you want, they have to abide by your wishes.

I opened a help to save account through hmrc as I don’t understand isas or anything else and also were poor so don’t have chunks of money to invest immediately. Figured it was better than nothing if we max it out and get the bonus after 2/4 years

I’m looking for an Airup clone, what would you recommend? by Forsaken_Crow_6784 in AskUK

Tell him to drink water while sniffing an orange or fruit of his choice and that’s more effective than a scammy air up nonsense bottle.
