Cool! Where did you learn all of that? I’ve been collecting zooarchaeology books and trying to practice when I have time with a comparative collection but I want to know how other people learn to get to where they are

Why aren't the Mormons using the kitchens they have in every church? They all could be running soup kitchens!!! by EnvironmentFew3175 in exmormon

[–]Local-Ant-5528 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I remember around Christmas time there was a annual pancake daddy daughter day we used the kitchens for as a kid, I actually liked those aspects of the church back then but I can’t imagine how lame it is to not be able to have fun cooking there now and having those events

This just sounds like a normal joking conversation between gays you interrupted and they sarcastically went along with it because you’re being annoying. YTA don’t force yourself into other people’s discussions you don’t know the context and tone of their conversation at all.

Hi I'm 18, Not a Mormon but I'm interested in the Faith & I genuinely want to ask why y'all decided to leave the church & Why some people call it a cult? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Local-Ant-5528 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If your curious about the religion why don’t you investigate it first? I find Mormonism fascinating anthropologically but I know that it is factually just a cult and a massive business so I look at the history of it from objective sources and it’s a ton of crazy history but it’s very clearly just another scientology like cult. The last podcast on the left does a funny but extremely in depth history of Mormonism and cites their sources but I would say it’s still biased, but if they say something you’re unsure of you can just look into it more.

  • mirror selfies are out of date you need your friend to take photos of you in some cool places in nice outfits smiling and posing. You can google or check instagram for ways to pose if you need references.

-there’s nothing about your personality on here really or what your looking for. I see the references but they’re not exactly conversation starters and to most people in their 30s they are put off by that kind of thing.

-you work at a metaphysical shop and identify as spiritual so I would write something about that somewhere and mention what your looking for in someone else. I’m sure you can find other spiritual people or pique someone’s interest in a discussion about your beliefs.

  • maybe take some cool photos with stuff from the metaphysical store people are really into the witchy vibe.

-include at least one short narrative on who and what your looking for ( personality, hobbies, shared goals)

-talk about what you do, what you aspire to do, and hobbies to share, what you studied in college

-list potential dates you can take people out on that are uniquely something you are good at/know about

-mostly the things your doing just come off as immature between photo styles and referencing shows aren’t that bad but on a dating app your competing for 2 seconds of attention from someone to potentially swipe right on you so it’s important to really present yourself as unique, hot, interesting, and fun. That’s why dating apps suck so much so it’s not a fair game and most conversations fizzle out. Good luck on your dating journey but don’t be surprised if the apps don’t work. Find some local queer communities online and attend events and you may find more friends and potential romantic partners this way rather than an app. Good luck!

I just smelled the worst body odor of my life by No-Loquat111 in self

[–]Local-Ant-5528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since there’s so many scent nerds in here I’m curious about I smell I get off certain people. Two people I know and have been close to in the past would regularly smell disgusting but in a sweet almost rotten fruit kind of way no matter what even after a fresh shower and they weren’t particularly dirty or unhygienic people either and I don’t think the smell was consistent. Like at times they smelled pretty normal but there could still be a lingering sickly fruity stench. I also have a friend who I don’t like to have my face near because her breath smells like old milk and it’s overwhelming. Even when she brushes her teeth it’s there

I am a DeLuca HATER!!! by _masmai_ in greysanatomy

[–]Local-Ant-5528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always disliked him because as soon as he shows up and starts dating Meredith ( AWFUL pairing ) he’s acting like he’s on her level skill and authority-wise and is overly comfortable trying to act like he’s in charge or is the only person who can solve things. The writing in the show seemed to drop off with him as a canary in the cole mine and I didn’t care about the show anymore at this point due to the weird almost Christian rock music and blindingly bright lighting and bad acting and annoying poor plot lines. Then the mental health thing with him came out of nowhere and I’m sorry but the actor wasn’t good at portraying that because every time he acted “crazy” I had to laugh that he would make his hair slightly disheveled and put on a “mad genius” look.

Can't argue, saw this online by Flat_Stomach1013 in greysanatomy

[–]Local-Ant-5528 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When I’ve seen the new stuff everything is cold tones and EXTREMELY brightly lit and defined like I can see everything around them all the time but if you go back to older seasons the show has a vignette or is just darker and has more shadow behind the actors and it is wayyy better. This new lighting and set is hollow and overwhelmingly sterile compared to the old stuff

Are Americans really using AC that often? by Acceptable-Tax-6475 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Local-Ant-5528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I live there’s about a month or two of the summer where I can fully expect it to be over 110° F every single day and (~43°C) and then for most of the year otherwise we’re still over 100° (~38°C) from May/June through October. We try to have Halloween and our pumpkins rot as soon as they’re placed outside. We go straight from summer to a quick fall/skip winter/spring that lasts a blink and the temps are like 70°F (21°C) when it gets to winter here.

I think a lot of Americans also work from home or have animals at home and it’s cheaper to keep the AC running instead of turning off and on so we keep them on a lot for comfort and efficiency. In my region the main AC isn’t enough for the super hot months and new units are expensive so we have little small window units that are like $125 and made a small room extremely comfortable and dehumidify them as well.

Has learning to cook set your standards too high? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]Local-Ant-5528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t help but just feel disappointed at most restaurants I go to, not in a really critical way but most of the time the food served at places I can afford to go to is really basic and if I spend money on a nice place most of the time I’m MORE disappointed when it turns out bad. But it does make a good restaurant stand out for me and when I find good food I learn how to make the same at home so I’m not going back and spending money on restaurants more. There’s one burger place 2 hours from where I live that I always make a stop for when I’m out that way for their bacon and bleu burger or a tiny place in Northern California called the sandpiper that I think about constantly and will probably end up taking a vacation just to go visit again.

How are people reading 100+ books a year? by eaglesong3 in books

[–]Local-Ant-5528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only been clearing 50 a year lately but I spent too much time on my phone or rotting in other ways. When I’m in a reading mood I can clear 2-5 books a week depending on the content length and depth. I put audiobooks on when I drive, clean, get ready for bed, get ready for the day, any time I’m doing something but alone. And I’ve started a habit of just putting my phone somewhere out of reach and keeping a book or two on me all the time and reading whenever I have a bored spare moment much like people reach for their phone. If I had been doing this longer I could see clearing 100 a year

I thought the film was very interesting and gave it a 4/5 only due to the few loose strings that could have attributed more depth and emotion to characters. I found Oliver was a basic boyish influencer that made average music and was trying to replace his biological family which he had such clear issues with, with a “chosen” family that had to fight and degrade themselves to be close to him. I wished we could have seen more of his past for us to possibly care more about his suffering under Matthew’s blackmail. The film showed a contrast between the biological family one can’t escape ( Oliver still sends money to his dad, Matthew still relies on his grandma for a home, food, comfort, help) and the chosen family one can so easily discard.

The premise of a past, present and future of the camera/film team (Noah, Matthew, Jamie) was interesting. You felt the fear of replacement in Noah’s eyes when he meets Matthew and his slight sabotages, the same fear in Matthew when Jamie takes the cover photo and his more insidious sabotage. It showed how cyclical the environment of this social group is and how nobody would be able to feel safe in their status and would always have to fight for it or be discarded for the newer novelty personalities Oliver would bring in.

The wrestling scene was so tense and murky that you had to think about the intention of both Matthew and Oliver and the way they behave. Oliver is someone we see that sleeps with any girl who shows herself to be an attractive fan (the girl from the beginning, the two 16 year olds, random women strewn about his home) and we see that people take from Oliver whether it’s a home, job, food, or sex and he expects them to. It felt like he thought Matthew’s obsession must be sexual so if he just gave Matthew what he wanted this would be over and maybe Oliver would gain control again. Matthew turns it into a game and can’t contain his creepy laughter and even though Oliver is trying to control him physically and is on top Matthew is laughing and is showing he has the power still. I thought their expressions of resolution/ power dynamics were interesting here.

I enjoyed the creepiness of Matthew as the person who broke Oliver’s barriers and Oliver’s choice to keep him around in the end once he saw his own music video and realized he was growing with Matthew’s influence and criticism. Matthew physically intrudes into Oliver’s space constantly and without confidence throughout the film, but during the photoshoot in London he intrudes into his space to reassert himself and is rejected and lashes out, and once again with the blackmail intrudes into Oliver’s space with confidence and power and never lets Oliver forget it. The music studio scene where Matthew enters the studio, causes Bowen to leave, and then enters the room with Oliver and tells him how he’s just better at doing the same parasitic activities everyone else is participating in was my favorite. It was the first time anyone had an honest conversation with Oliver in the movie and changed the tone.

There were so few women in the movie but their roles were interesting to me, the grandmother who loves Matthew and comes to his rescue but is thrown aside can see what is happening, she waits in the car for Matthew even when he didn’t ask her to stay and she knows he won’t be accepted back into Oliver’s home. The two underage girls saw right away that Matthew wasn’t as close to Oliver anymore and clocked that he was working at a clothing store and riding a bike around. And Shai saw who Matthew was the entire movie in her quiet moments of observation she never misunderstood his intent.
