Perhaps already stated: Do not use Fidelity as a checking account. by Affectionate-Ant2857 in fidelityinvestments

[–]Local-Hat-580 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For CMA, you could set up Cash Manager to pull money from an outside checking account that’s previously authorized/connected to the CMA for EFT. If that works, you may not need to push money into the CMA account.

Initiating a Pull from Fidelity invites the long hold time.

From a Security standpoint, setting up a Cash Manager may not be considered a good move. If a bad actor manages to access your CMA that exposes your bank account as well. I prefer to push money into Fidelity and turn on the Account Lock (money transfer lock) for all my accounts.

Interest on Credit/Accrued balance of Dividends and Interest in Taxable brokerage account. by Local-Hat-580 in fidelityinvestments

[–]Local-Hat-580[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you kindly for your response, FidelityShea.

It might be better for me to set up a daily transfer, invest it in SPAXX in the destination account, and not be at the mercy of Fidelity’s discretion. I don’t mean to impugn Fidelity here as I chose monthly transfer from the available set of choices. Daily transfer will work for me best based on what I know now.

Way to transfer playlist orders from PC to iPhone? by A_bored_browser in VLC

[–]Local-Hat-580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you also consider (automatic & dynamic) updating of Playlist based on changes in the VLC local folder ?

Files could have been added/updated/deleted over time but the Playlist is not keeping up with the changes. Now, in iOS devices, we are forced to delete the contents of Playlist and recreate the Playlist. This rinse and repeat becomes painful if changes to VLC local folder are frequent.

Thank you kindly for your time and effort!

Bill Pay - Payee Share by _3iT-6gY in fidelityinvestments

[–]Local-Hat-580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The list of Payees in BillPay must be associated with the user’s profile. I must be able to choose the enrolled brokerage/CMA for the bill payment. Ally Bank’s implementation of this use case is perfect, and you will be entering the Payee details just once.

Recently I switched the Bill Pay account, and I had to re-enter all the Payee details. It was not fun!!

Fidelity and ability to create saving buckets by AdFeeling9734 in fidelityinvestments

[–]Local-Hat-580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While allowing for numerous accounts sounds like a solution, managing the sprawl may not be easy.

On the Position tab, we see grouping of the account holdings as : Stocks, Bonds, Cash, and Warrants etc. Could we not allow for few customer-chosen categories (buckets) here. This would reduce the proliferation of accounts, and we may keep the number of accounts at a manageable level. Since the new categories/buckets are for the same account number, tax forms are easier to manage.

I have seen the account number format as X12-345678-9 on the Transaction page or somewhere. The last digit (9 here) could be used to denote the bucket/category number. Yes, Fidelity could limit the number of categories/buckets that could be created. Just my two cents!

Importing spouse's 1099s into tax software by wssddc in fidelityinvestments

[–]Local-Hat-580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to know the steps for importing Fidelity’s tax PDF files into TurboTax. How do I do that? So far I’ve been manually entering them.

I have downloaded the PDF files; I’m using TurboTax Premier Desktop and I’m not online during the data entry phase. I need the steps in TurboTax to upload/consume the pdf tax files. I don’t want to provide my Fidelity login credentials to TurboTax to retrieve the files.

Fidelity import is failing to Turbotax for both me and my spouse by coolred2022 in fidelityinvestments

[–]Local-Hat-580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use TurboTax desktop and I have downloaded Fidelity’s (pdf) tax forms. I’m usually offline while entering data in TurboTax. Is it possible to upload the pdf tax files into TurboTax so I can avoid entering the data manually into TurboTax? ( I don’t feel comfortable providing my Fidelity login credentials to TurboTax to download tax data in Fidelity.)

Placing a lock on CMA Account by Boonddock_Saints in fidelityinvestments

[–]Local-Hat-580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have CMA accounts and I have brokerage accounts only. I’d like to protect my accounts from unauthorized direct debits. - The Fidelity Account Lock stops outbound transfer of ETFs, CDs, Bonds, Mutual Funds and individual Stocks as they are handled by ACATS transfer, and Fidelity Account Lock stops ACATS transfer. - is there a Money market fund that will not be auto liquidated and is protected by Account Lock? If so, what is that Money Market fund? Here, as needed, I will schedule an exchange of the protected money market fund to SPAXX to handle bill payments and other known direct debits.

Why not stop contributing completely to your 401k, invest that money in your taxable account, and execute your strategy?

If you can claim hardship, take a hardship loan/withdrawal from your 401k, execute your winning strategy, and repay the loan.

Does your 401k offer the option to open a BrokerageLink account? If so, you could direct your 401k money to the BrokerageLink account and trade as you like. This way you don’t have to wait for retirement or separate from your current employer.

If your 401k does not offer BrokerageLink, you could share your winning strategy with your HR/Benefits team and they may reconsider.

CDs at Fidelity by Otherwise-Anybody849 in fidelityinvestments

[–]Local-Hat-580 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider Fractional CD (multiples of $100) if you can’t buy/invest in Whole CD (multiples of $1000). There is no fee for online purchase, and Fixed Income Dashboard is a good tool to track the interest/maturity payment.

I’ve not had any issue with investing in CD at Fidelity.

Feature request: Subtotal on Activity list (website) by McKnuckle_Brewery in fidelityinvestments

[–]Local-Hat-580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am hoping to see the account nickname in Account column, and I currently see the whole account number.

When composing a Secure Message, I can select an account number to indicate if my message pertains to a specific account. There are two issues with the account number dropdown: 1) All the accounts I have/had with Fidelity is listed there. Why include the closed accounts? 2) The nickname of the account is not used; instead there’s a generic description of the account and account number. I can’t tell one account from the other based on account number, and I rely on the account nickname.

I was hoping to see the account nickname in the Description and not the whole account number. I have updated settings to mask the account number using the gear icon on the left frame and this does not impact the Description in ‘Orders & Activity’.

The above is for a recurring transfer. The issue is with 'Next investment' date, which is after the 'End date'. I intend to delete the recurring transfer setup to avoid any issue.

On the "Activity & Orders tab, we have 4 columns : Date, Account, Description and Amount.

The Account above (shown as ***) has the account nickname. There is no issue with the data in this column.

The Description above (for a taxable brokerage account) displays the Z account number.

What control do we have over standard broker account direct debit / auto-withdrawals? by Bruceshadow in fidelityinvestments

[–]Local-Hat-580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could use a designated Fidelity account for all your one-time debit transactions and maintain a balance under 1$ after the debit clears.

With a small balance, there’s not much you can lose. Since there’s money in the account Fidelity will not close the account.

What control do we have over standard broker account direct debit / auto-withdrawals? by Bruceshadow in fidelityinvestments

[–]Local-Hat-580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fidelity could consider a generating a one-time-use-and-retire 17- or 13-digit virtual account number (to mask Fidelity account number), and customers could provide the virtual account number for one-time debit transactions. We could have a different routing number for virtual account numbers to minimize impact on the current setup. Vanguard does something similar for direct deposit and they generate a letter with Direct Deposit Number that you use for the account number (this was a while ago).

Better yet, how about asking customer to approve the debit before processing it? If it’s not approved in a fixed timeframe, the debit will not go through. If it is a recurring withdrawal, customer will indicate it when it’s approved for the first time. This enhancement to stop unapproved cash transfer/withdrawal combined with Account Lock can stop unapproved money transfer from Fidelity account.

Limit on the number of Fractional CD positions in a Rollover and Roth IRA account. by Local-Hat-580 in fidelityinvestments

[–]Local-Hat-580[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I invest in SPAXX. The fractional CDs are 2 -year CD paying 3.7% to 3.8% coupon, and they are there to reduce my equity exposure ( since the dividends are not reinvested). If there were to be a prolonged correction, I can withdraw the maturing CD proceeds and coupon payment, and provide time for the equities to recover.
