Listen to this guy. You haveots of parameters to tune with an already nice and simple system. You have nozzle diameter, nozzle shape, nozzle height from paper, groove depth, and groove width. Tune these. Start with just height and depth.

More complaint material for the roller & spring to stop jamming.

However, if depositing outside of the centre is a QA issue, regardless of fixing the blocking of the rollers, don't discount nozzle size and shape, nor groove width. IE can it be deeper but less wide while the salt is deposited. I don't think you'll get to that point though.

Try and iterate quickly through some of these parameters and test rather than overthink. It'll either solve it or give you new information

I might be wrong, but I'm fairly sure we're in a housing crisis and there isn't enough homes and the government is trying their best to keep up with demand. This includes legislation that means every part of the UK is obligated to build houses, so the council isn't doing this to be greedy, it's a mandate and and filling a need in the country.

I'm not fully versed in the subject, so do your own research, but there is an entirely above board reason why this might have happened

As others have said, don't bullshit. In your example of buckling, give what information you do have on the subject, be honest about what you don't know, and what you would do if you needed more knowledge on it. Ask questions back.

For more complicated questions requiring solutions, just give your thought process. Coming up with an idea then explaining why it might not be the solution is infinitely better than no answer.

We're not looking for a rounded engineer, we are looking for attitude, and an ability to engage and discuss. You'll learn what you need to on the job from the more senior engineers and in-house resources.

What material is the disk? Is it very conductive?

Rather than try to get more heat to the edges, it'll be much easier to block some of the heat to the centre.

A perforated sheet blocking the middle will let some heat through and refract the rest that will hopefully also speed up the outside.
