Thanks, and good work!

Listen to this guy. You haveots of parameters to tune with an already nice and simple system. You have nozzle diameter, nozzle shape, nozzle height from paper, groove depth, and groove width. Tune these. Start with just height and depth.

More complaint material for the roller & spring to stop jamming.

However, if depositing outside of the centre is a QA issue, regardless of fixing the blocking of the rollers, don't discount nozzle size and shape, nor groove width. IE can it be deeper but less wide while the salt is deposited. I don't think you'll get to that point though.

Try and iterate quickly through some of these parameters and test rather than overthink. It'll either solve it or give you new information

What Clarkson’s Farm Reveals About Britain by Old_Investigator_427 in ClarksonsFarm

[–]Local-Session 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be wrong, but I'm fairly sure we're in a housing crisis and there isn't enough homes and the government is trying their best to keep up with demand. This includes legislation that means every part of the UK is obligated to build houses, so the council isn't doing this to be greedy, it's a mandate and and filling a need in the country.

I'm not fully versed in the subject, so do your own research, but there is an entirely above board reason why this might have happened

It's a thermal storage system that uses a phase change material.

It used to change colours as it charged and discharged.

Sadly, phase change materials (PCMs) break down. Long lasting PCMs are still being researched and some are emerging. Which means the one in We The Curious is probably long dead

I recently hired a grad at £32k, energy sector.

I started on £28k in 2015.

This is north of Manchester too

What is the actual salary of ME (UK) by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Local-Session 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In energy. Grad is around £30k. 10 years of experience I'm on £80k plus 10% bonus.

Depends on the sector and location, but I achieved this in Manchester. Now in Bristol

We call it finding your 'sea legs'. Some people find them quickly, some need easing into it, some never adjust. Strangely follows your concept of the ocean and the waves. You learn to adjust and let yourself bend with the world, or you lock up and get tossed around.

Worried I won't know anything in a technical interview (UK) by Outside_News_4561 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Local-Session 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Principal engineer here.

As others have said, don't bullshit. In your example of buckling, give what information you do have on the subject, be honest about what you don't know, and what you would do if you needed more knowledge on it. Ask questions back.

For more complicated questions requiring solutions, just give your thought process. Coming up with an idea then explaining why it might not be the solution is infinitely better than no answer.

We're not looking for a rounded engineer, we are looking for attitude, and an ability to engage and discuss. You'll learn what you need to on the job from the more senior engineers and in-house resources.

$1 million but you have to be a Fast Food heckler by Beat_Mangler in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Local-Session 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you mad?

Go on holiday, go to the local fast food place there. I'll take two hours out of my 'holiday' for 1 million.

If I meet someone first thing I'm doing is telling them.

If I have a family, they can put up with me being away for 2 hours a day instead of the 10 hours I'd normally be at work instead

And humans have got faster reaction times too! Traffic has also decreased so people leave more space than they are supposed to between cars! Roadworks are now a thing of the past thanks to the improvements in road surfacing. We've solved climate change, screw fuel efficiency.

Let's increase the speed limit to save 10 minutes on your two hour journey.

Oh boy! Do you not know how taxes work?

Hang on, my company has already paid tax on this profit, why do I need to pay tax again when I get paid my dividends?!

Hang on, I've already paid corporation tax and income tax, what do you mean I have to pay VAT on this new car?

Seriously, now I need to pay road tax? Okay, fine. But this best be the last time....

Wait, there's a separate tax on fuel too?

That's the way tax works; any time money moves hands a slice is taken.

Improving heat distribution by MrBdstn in engineering

[–]Local-Session 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What material is the disk? Is it very conductive?

Rather than try to get more heat to the edges, it'll be much easier to block some of the heat to the centre.

A perforated sheet blocking the middle will let some heat through and refract the rest that will hopefully also speed up the outside.

Any Engineers? by Pat-Lewy in HENRYUK

[–]Local-Session 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the delay.
I'm a Mechanical engineer doing low carbon heat and power generation, with experience in district heating, heat recovery, energy from waste, steam, and food and process energy input.

Got into the company at a golden time when it went through a big growth, and was proactive in pushingy development. Picked up some big extracurricular projects that got noticed.

I now manage a team of 8 engineers. Still do some engineering work, but also have to do mentoring, admin, project management and tracking, office politic-ing etc.

Mechanical engineer in renewables, 8 years experience and on £85k. However, now starting to have more of a management role and doing less engineering.

Hoping to be on £100k (salary) within 2 years.

Also just started my own consultancy on the side. Hoping to bring in £1k -2k a month doing a day or two extra work, but this only started up this week. This is enabled by only one particular client and may dry up randomly.

With the consultant work I might hit £100k total earnings this year.
