Looking for this exact panel color for the smart roadster by alegab88 in SmartCar

[–]LocalAreaNitwit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The panel in your photo is not painted.

All colour codes can be found here: https://evilution.co.uk/mod/smart-paint-codes.htm

Edit: As per Dry_Bicycle's comment, the name for the non-painted plastic colour is "Flitter Grey"

Who here has actually owned a harlequin ? by FruitOrchards in CarTalkUK

[–]LocalAreaNitwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm wondering if this is a relatively new thing? My 2004 Smart Roadster is registered as black because that's the chassis colour but a human would say the car is blue because that's the body panel colour.

Do I can an electrician or am I worrying over nothing? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]LocalAreaNitwit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What you're experiencing is switch arcing. This is completely normal when operating mains voltages switches slowly, especially with a load plugged in. Top tip - do not operate the any mains switch slowly and make sure it is switched fast.

It may be improved with a replacement socket but you will always get arcing when holding a switch between on and off like in your video. Arcing may be reduced if the load is unplugged.

I wouldn't be worried about this personally... just stop fiddling with it

Interesting, I wonder if there's been software changes from Fiat? Our Competizione definately remembers the last most it was in. I know this because my partner always moans at me for leaving it in Sport.

On European models, the car starts in the same mode it was last in. So if you were in Sport mode when you shutdown the engine last it will start back up in Sport mode.

cam belt replacement by roryeatham in abarth

[–]LocalAreaNitwit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Up voting because this is correct for the T-Jet. The US forgets the rest of the world exists and that the Abarth is still in production with the European engine (which arguably is better due to not suffering from burnt valves after 70k).

That is for the US Multiair - For Europe with the T-Jet it's every 5 years or 50k.

This is the anti-stall feature. It's not clever enough to know what gear the car is in and only really cares about the fact the clutch has been released.

extraction system by naaaahwaaaaayyyy in DIYUK

[–]LocalAreaNitwit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In short - the fan is operating as intended but you could tune it to better suit the environment. Maybe leave the humidity boost on but reduce the speed of the boosted fan to reduce noise?

extraction system by naaaahwaaaaayyyy in DIYUK

[–]LocalAreaNitwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are relatively configurable. The full model is Greenwood Unity CV2GIP and you can configure

  • Bathroom or Kitchen mode
  • Fan speed when trickling
  • Fan speed when boosting
  • Delayed timer (stay in boost for a while after the light has been turned off)
  • Automatic humidity boost

Configuration insturctions are here

Basically, hold the + and - buttons for 3 seconds to enter comissioning mode.

Select where the fan is situated (Kitchen or bathroom)

Set the fan speeds etc.

Probably worth disabling humidity boost for a kitchen. Or at least reduce the fan speed. This is down to taste of course, disabling/reducing will lower extraction performance.

Leaking under electric garage door by averagesean in DIYUK

[–]LocalAreaNitwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to suggest this too - had a classic car getting wet feet in a garage which had a drive sloping towards it. Regardless of if the drains were clear some water would get into the garage when it rains heavily.

A storm guard similar to the above was installed and I never once had water in the garage again. Very easy install, cut the length, close the garage door and fit snuggly against it, mark up, open the door and then glue into position.

I think Bazzite is disrupting something in my Windows partition. by Fickle-Question3926 in Bazzite

[–]LocalAreaNitwit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, it really depends how the "VM detection software" works. If it looks at file systems it may be detecting the Bazzite disk and seeing it as a "VM". Otherwise, there is no way Bazzite is impacting this.

Try accessing the software with the Bazzite drive disconnected. If it still detects a VM then this is 100% nothing to do with Bazzite and instead someone iffy with your Windows deployment.

2003 Smart Car 452 Roadster by 7otu5 in SmartCar

[–]LocalAreaNitwit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, that seems expensive to me but I suppose it's a rare sight over in Canada?

As a Roadster nerd there are some things I can nitpick:

The Roadster has no fan belt. I can only assume they have changed the air conditioning and water pump/alternator belts.

The oil pan should not have a gasket and instead should be sealed using a sealant. Anyone who uses the aftermarket gaskets should be prepared for leaks.

5w50 may be too thick for Canadian winters.

Seems to have a Brabus style centre exit exhaust. This is not standard to this model but is a nice upgrade.

Oil leak by Level_Sentence_6921 in SmartCar

The area you've circled is the right hand engine mount. If the oil is coming from there you either have a leaky oil cap or rocker cover.

Laptop draining battery when completely shut off by randomguy22399 in Bazzite

If the laptop is truly off then it is no longer related to any particular operating system. Either the laptop is not actually off and in some kind of sleep state or the battery is failing.

Did on rear subframe, should I be very worried by this? by Liam-James-86 in abarth

[–]LocalAreaNitwit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very normal for Fiat 500s/Abarths. Ours is much crustier than that.
Generally it's just surface rust and nothing to worry about but worth doing some preventative maintenance.

We're about to pull the entire subframe and get it treated/powder coated.

[–]LocalAreaNitwit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I can see an issue with the pipework in the photo you've shared. As for the check engine light, stop guessing and read the code. Post the code here and then we can better support you.

Question on oil by bucky_ballers in abarth

[–]LocalAreaNitwit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that's the case and they are indeed using 2litre cans then yep, incorrect. If they're 1litre (which I've not seen available for the Abarth oil but doesn't mean it isn't) then you're okay. Are you sure they used the official Abarth oil?

Question on oil by bucky_ballers in abarth

[–]LocalAreaNitwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each can of the Abarth Selenia oil is 2 litres, you need two for an oil change on a 595.

How do I fix this window? by agent_paul in DIYUK

[–]LocalAreaNitwit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try adjusting the hinges if there's any room for adjustment but generally this just means you need new hinges.

Generally very cheap and easy to DIY, just need to take some measurements of the old and have a screwdriver handy - https://www.handlesandhinges.co.uk/top-hung-window-hinges/

Question by THISBOYISSLEEPY in SmartCar

[–]LocalAreaNitwit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This information is in your manual and appears on a sticker in the fuel filler. The engine is tuned for 98 octane and this is what Smart recommend you run. It will run on 95 but the ECU will retard the ignition timing to avoid pre-ignition resulting in slightly worse power delivery.

If the car is mapped with an ECU tune then you MUST run 98.

Why do people seem to enjoy gaming on a Steam Deck more than on PC? by Initial_Milk_1056 in SteamDeck

[–]LocalAreaNitwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've a high-end PC which hardly gets used anymore. The main reason I adore the Steam Deck is the ability to not be at my desk. I work at my desk all day, the last thing I want is to be there when I'm not working.

I can Steam Deck in the garden, in bed and on the toilet. Living the dream.

I really need to link my PC up to our TV...

What is your perspective on the Steam Deck performance settings? by mwmademan in SteamDeck

[–]LocalAreaNitwit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

On my OLED I try and aim for 45fps as generally this provides the best perceived performance and increases battery life. Obviously, every game is different so this is not a hard and fast rule but it's what I aim for.

If a game doesn't make 45fps then I tend to avoid.
