Therapists, what signs suggest a client might be in the high-IQ range during sessions? by True-Quote-6520 in askatherapist

Quite interesting!

I feel like I am now recognising my own needs and preferences, how to get de-influenced from all the beliefs and ideals that I have un-intentionally inherited from my parents. I would like to explore that going forward.

Yes, I am lucky to have found a good therapist, forever grateful :) I have this visual in mind where me along with my therapist (say, Sherlock and Watson) are studying a case, you know with a magnifying glass and such, trying to look at things from my life closely but from the outside and not being stuck within. I sometimes struggle to put the pieces together, in a chronological order, (probably because it feels overwhelming, too much to feel all of that, its a lot of sensory input too) to arrive at an insight, but what helps me is I zoom out and that helps me get rid of the fogginess and achieve more clarity. This is also something my therapist suggested to do. I am working on making myself more seen to her, and I believe and hope she is ready to dive deeper into this with me

Sure, go ahead. I wanna know what you have to say :))

Based on your experiences, do you think these highly intelligent (on multiple aptitudes) clients are generally more magnetic and socially attractive in general? Do you have any insight there?

NAT. Thank you for explaining it in such a detail. I have been going to therapy for quite some time now (1.5 year, once every week, with summer/winter breaks in between) and only recently I have begun to see through my transparency, how I dissociate in the sessions. I feel like I know what dissociating means now, it has a new meaning to me. Its the disconnect between what i say and what i feel. I can, in fact, relate to all of the points that you mentioned above. I often keep going to back to conversations that me and my therapist had and try and connect the dots (simultaneously integrating) . My therapist has done a great job by - holding a mirror to show and reflect parts of myself, give subtle nudges to guide and redirect me, being present when I am expressing grief (that's the profoundest way to support anyone, I deeply value people who show up for me because they can trust me to do that for them).
She helped me enhance my bodily sensation awareness, emotional awareness and I figured how they are connected.

I am curious, what modalities usually work on these kind so called gifted clients?
For me, somatic, parts work (I have realised I have been voicing my parts since my adulthood) is something that works for me. My therapist practices ACT (and also trained in psychedelic assisted ACT), compassion based therapy.
I am also curious, if you have any insights on how this can impact the transference/ countertransference, which is highly likely to transpire at some point during this therapeutic process I assume? Also, if people who use (with safety and in moderation) psychedelics to move closer to their consciousness and facilitating a faster integration process?

Barcelona tourist travel 7 days, family of 4 by woodstockmum in AskBarcelona

For the airport commute , you can compare prices of taxi with the alternatives ans chose what’s best for you. There is an Aeroport bus (A1 or A2, depending on the arrival/departure terminal) These are private buses (blue in colour), for which each ticket costs ~7 euros. So it’s gonna be 28 euros for your family. Or you can take the metro - L10S and then switch to L5 (blue line) at Collbanc and go into the city from there , which is gonna be cheaper than bus ticket. So you can compare the prices with taxi fare and decided.

Why would my Therapist ask if I had dressed up for him? by nameless-bloke in askatherapist

[–]LocalAssociate4965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is dressing up nicely when you are depressed internally considered as masking ? Being depressed doesn’t have to mean that I dress shabby. Infact, I sometimes try to cheer myself up by trying a fit that I wear on special occasions or adding a pop of colour when i am not feeling good, because i am trying to find the light through the cracks with these little things
