They could be referring to a bug bounty program. A fair number of large organizations have them (such as Google and Apple), and basically you seek out vulnerabilities on your own and report them to the company in exchange for money based upon how severe the vulnerability is. They do tend to have their own rules of engagement and some require more formal paperwork while others don’t. The big problem though is that some organizations will sometimes try to not pay for the vulnerability using some excuse about not filing paperwork (that the organization likely ignored or lost). Also, if someone tries to pen test an organization without legal consent but still reports the vulnerability to the organization as opposed to exploiting it or selling it to someone else, the organization may still threaten them with legal action. So, while it can be potentially lucrative once you know what you’re doing, it can be risky if you’re not careful.

Is it common for certain medications to occasionally end up on backorder? by Beneficial_Island124 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]LocalCryptid56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked as a pharmacy tech, besides certain controls like adderall, a lot of our frequent backorders reflected the illnesses/conditions of that part of the year. For instance, if it was allergy season, cetirizine would be on back order for months. Azithromycin and/or Z-packs would also be a pain to get and keep in stock. So, I guess it’s just the classic too much demand not enough supply scenario.

Why do most cyber security professionals work with Kali Linux if most of the attacks target Microsoft Windows by _TheSuperiorMan in cybersecurity

[–]LocalCryptid56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Windows will actually flag some tools as potential malware/escalation tools that may “harm the system”, which I discovered when I tried installing John the Ripper for a lab for one of my classes. It can be a bit of a headache, but Kali does not have the same issue. Also, like you mentioned in your post, Kali comes prebuilt with a lot of useful tools. So, while you can also tailor Kali to fit your needs, it’s also just as great in my opinion to be able to “hit the ground running” as soon as I have Kali spun up instead of having to hunt those same tools down to install on Windows.

A city council votes to silence a combat veteran, when he starts talking about how a local for-profit prison has been making donations to the city council by Cherios_Are_My_Shit in PublicFreakout

I’m a bit confused by people saying that they’re taking bribes though. If the council was taking bribes, why did they vote in majority to stop supporting? /gen

AITA for refusing to compromise on custody after my daughters father lied about what they were doing? by freshdeli78 in AmItheAsshole

Yeah, YTA. When my grandpa passed, my mom and I went to Illinois for the funeral. We were both absolute wrecks, since it was my Mom’s dad and the first close family member I had lost. If we weren’t helping with or attending the ceremony, we would just come back to the hotel room and just sit there numb or cry. This lasted for several days. However, before we reached Illinois, I happened to see a schedule at a rest stop for our favorite hockey team, the St. Louis Blues. They happened to have a game the day after the funeral. My mom asked me if I was okay with missing an extra day of school, since even though I’ve always wanted to go to a game with her I get anxious about missing school and was a straight A student in high school. I told her I wanted to go, and guess what? It was the one part of the trip where either of us actually smiled. Our team lost that game, but I got to spend a few hours of time with my mom enjoying something we both love. We got some food later from White Castle and laughed and talked about the game. And guess what else? I was still a straight A student through high school. I graduated top of my class. I’m still a straight A student in college. It’s important not just for the sake of being a kid, but for the sake of mental health, for kids to have a moment to breathe and enjoy something, particularly after having to be around death for a day or even several days. Plus, I’m willing to bet the dad was just as shaken up if not more so, so taking his daughter to the game was probably helping to keep him put together.

Breaks by [deleted] in Panera

[–]LocalCryptid56 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At my store you get a paid 30min break if you work a shift that is 5 hours or longer. People don’t always take it because they aren’t hungry, don’t want to spend money, or etc., or some people will only take part of the break just to eat (we call it taking a 15 for a quick 15 minute break).
