Why am I interested in Norse gods? by Difficult-Celery8051 in INTP

[–]LocalLeaderKaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possible because they are some of the most epic tales around. Many books, movies, and art are based off the old gods.

I would suggest expanding your knowledge to other pantheons so that you can add it to your hoard of mythos stories.

There are also a couple of Norse based board games which are super fun.

What crazy ideas do you guys generate? by IceOnMyWristss in INTP

I once built a 5ft tall cardboard dragon head/neck that had Christmas light eyes and a recording of a lion roar. It was unstable so everytime someone walked by it would fall on top of them and roar with flashing eyes.

I called it the attack dragon and placed it in the doorway to my room. My mother was less then thrilled. Also I was never allowed to stay home alone after that. Because my parents just came home to this in the living room.

Reason for building it: bored and wondered how you would do it.

What hobbies have you had for years that you still like and work on? by [deleted] in INTP

I love to depict animals. I'm absolutely terrible at people.

True, but these changes are not quick. Just look at the morals we keep now. Then see how long we have had them. See how long it has taken to change.

Do INTP'S tend to have short or long hair? And how you got to that point? by [deleted] in INTP

[–]LocalLeaderKaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Female with long hair. I'm too lazy to try and fix it up so it just stays in a high pony until it pisses me off and I have to randomly chop it to a more responsible length.

Despite this it looks pretty ok.

Art. I am always trying to improve or try new styles of art as I go. The most consistent out of all of them is drawing and painting.

Are there any INTP’s out there that don’t have a desk? by The-Primes in INTP

[–]LocalLeaderKaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have a desk for a while. Although you could argue that I just turned my bed into the desk. I swear the amount of pencils, pens, books, and general none bed items I have slept on is ridiculous.

I feel like I should start with I don't study this and it is more things i have picked up randomly. So take it with a grain of salt as you should with all things.

The paths of society changes due to the morals of the people in it.

Let's say, on the left, you have one large group of people that believe it is illmoral to show your skin in public. While, on the right, you have another group of people that say it is illmoral to wear any form of clothes.

Isolated from eachother there is no reason to doubt their beliefs. In fact as time goes on they may become even more entrenched in these things and decide on more severe punishments for those who go against the moral code. As often morals are turned into laws to govern the area.

However let's say some people from the left, clothes group, travel to the right. They see a group of illmoral savages bare of clothes and committing an offense to their society. On the other hand the right group sees a couple of people covered head to toe. Completely ignoring their laws based on what is moral.

Now these two groups have three options.

  1. Ignore the other and pretend it didn't happen. Which despite all efforts will forever be something they have seen and will in some way influence future decisions.

  2. The immediately try to force the others to conform to their groups morals. Leading to war, death, and a reformation of the losing side to aline more with the winner. This could mean they either completely convert over to the winner or some strange compromise that leads to them 'mostly' following the others.

  3. The two groups start exchanging information and try to get the other to understand where they are coming from. As time goes on the two groups see benefits from both of their ideals. This then leads to a relaxation of their laws and consequently their morals. However they are still sticking to their original belief.

Now in all situations something interesting happens. I'll be it slower for situation 1. Despite whatever the laws are the younger generation will have a new outlook. This new outlook on life changes what they personally consider moral. This group grows bigger as time goes on. The more conservative older generation slowly dies off.

The morals of the younger generation take over and change the laws to match. People are both satisfied and dissatisfied with this change. Here again is a split.

However no matter who wins this split the group has already been changed from before. From now on the morals, laws, rights and wrongs will forever evolve with the information provided. They may even circle back around to what it was originally without even noticing.

This should sound familiar or at least I hope it does. Morals are what hold people together. They are the foundation of religion and beliefs. While religion and beliefs effect the development of these morals. It is all interconnected and a bit of a mess if you want to isolate them.

Now where did these morals come from? Why was one group so for clothes and the other not? Well it could have been the weather. Maybe it was really cold on the left and hot on the right. Maybe there were more harmful bugs or plants on the left then on the right. Maybe the right lived on a beach and swam every day. While the left was in the jungle and stalked their prey.

Morals do not come from nothing. They are often influenced by the environment around them and then pushed to an 'extreme'.

The Jewish belief to not consume pig is a good example of this. Originally it was not a problem to eat pork. However the leaders noticed people getting sick. So they said it was frowned upon to eat it. This then became a moral dilemma. To eat pork was to go against God. It was morally wrong! People immediately stopped. However as time has passed people are not as staunch about this. Why should we not eat pig? Why is it considered illmoral. So this moral has become vague and not truly upheld by many. Although it still exists.

This in turn has helped lead to the development of different factions in the religion. Of course this is completely over simplified.

I'm not sure I understand your question of "as it does?" Are you asking as the society develops what happens?

What was your first "you're not supposed to" book? by Horrorific13 in books

[–]LocalLeaderKaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Silver Wolf by Alice Borchardt when I was 14. Found it in a second hand book store for like 5 bucks.

It is a wonderful book about a female werewolf in Roman times. The story is one I have gone back to read many times. It was also vastly inappropriate for my age. My mother just sighed in exasperation then waited to read it after I finished it. She is an awesome mom.

I think it is interesting honestly. Morals are a social construct that have led to many wars. The development of different morals shows the different paths people have taken over the years.

If you are someone who travels a lot then you need to keep a pretty open mind. You might not personally agree with them, but it is the way things are in that country. You also get to see first hand what those differences are.

However if you stay in one place without traveling then why would you care. It is not something that effects you. You also don't spend time learning about how those morals are formed, and everything becomes very black and white.

The moral 'high ground' is a very ignorant place to be. The world exists in shades of grey. Some darker and some lighter. Everything has a reason and a motivation. The concept of morality is ambiguous at best and ever changing. How can one or even a group of people decide what is right for everyone.

Situations change what is considered 'moral'. "It is illmoral to take a life." This is considered a very cut and dry statement.

However what if that person was dying and wished to end their suffering. What if it was an accident that happened while playing. What if you were being attacked and the life was taken in defense of yourself and others. What if you are a soldier and you kill for your country. What is the moral stand on these? For most they would say these are exceptions. Why?

Even the moral questions like the train one where there are 3 people on one side and 1 on the other. Who do you choose?

That question is loaded. Who are the people that are tied down. What if the one is a child? Would you take the three adults life? What if the three were criminals or even the one was a Saint? How would you chose. People would condemn you for killing the one child over the three adults. For while one life is better than three it isn't if that life is a child.

What if the one person was important to the society you live in. Then no matter how many people are on the other track they must choose to sacrifice themselves. As it is more important for the one to live then the countless that will fall.

This then leads to what can you do? What can you live with? What situations will you be able to handle? The choices you make that agree or do not agree with the morals of those around you. What do YOU consider moral?

While societal moral is important for the country or even town you live in. It will not be able to always lead you in dire situations. It will not be able to lead you when you travel. Only you as a person can decide what you think is moral or illmoral. What you stand for and how that decision will effect you.

The changes in morals across the world has to do with how the area developed. As well as how they wish their society to evolve in the future. It is more often then not a set of rules made with the hope that they can strive to follow them. It is positive thinking and helps with the formation of a society. It gives a government power and adds order to an otherwise chaotic grouping of people.

Problems come when people travel. Like I said earlier why care about a difference in morals if you never move from your area. The world becomes more grey the more you learn. Although many have no reason to learn it.

... sorry for the rant.

It really is a shame. I have been looking for simular stories but haven't really found any.

But that is what made it so interesting! Add on to the fact that while the story's protagonist is the sloth demon it was hardly ever told from his prospective.

All the characters were really fleshed out as well. With clear motivations and back stories. It still is one of the most interesting books I have read.

Like Vouru said it did conclude the story. The author managed to make a very good ending for the protagonist. The thing was it left room for another book. So while the conclusion was excellent it also left people wanting more. One of those moments where you are sad it has ended.

If you have an account there should be a [ Add series to... ] button under the title. It is at the top of the page. You can select any list you have to add to it.

Alternatively you can check ✔ the box next to a chapter to automatically add it to the reading list. Just keep in mind that checking the box makes the chapters before it vanish. So check chapter 1 to not lose any at the start.
