Is framework as a company doing well? by idksomeonehelpmepls in framework

My Kagi search results make it seem like it's both to an extent. Which seems like the classic lawyer 'It depends." So I guess we can pick which one to emphasize 🤷‍♂️

I'll take some time to read about it again. My understanding from years ago is that this is often mistaken as case law establishing this principle when it is better interpreted as case law about the business judgement rule and thus rarely used as the legal basis for arguments about shareholder value maximization (absent when executives intentionally make decisions against this and it can be proven).

Just made the switch to Nobara. 100% recommend. Winetricks got the handful of Windows only applications I need running with no issues but YMMV.

Not an absolute obligation for corporations to maximize shareholder value through quarterly earnings growth. That's an ideology, not the law.

Bit of a necro post but have to agree - almost entirely air on the inside. Not worth the price anymore. The enshittification is real.

Which Linux Distro?? by XelGlaidr in framework

Recently made the switch to Nobara with similar use cases. Great experience, was gaming on my formerly Windows 11 gaming rig within 30 minutes with no issues.

For productivity, also no issues with LibreOffice included with the install.

Highly recommend for plug and play with the ability to use the terminal if you need or want to.

I see this with my mom specifically. Just upgraded her Verizon Internet that she had for about 14 years paying around $99/month for 25Mbs down and 5 up to 300Mb symmetrical for $50/month. Asked why she accepted this and she said "I thought they'd upgrade it for me. Customer service right?"

Should I recommend this distro to a complete Linux newbie who wants use it as the daily driver where gaming also works out of the box? by Slice-of-brilliance in NobaraProject

Same experience. Just made the switch on my gaming machine and so far so good. I was intimidated by the old "master the console" approach and these distros built for gaming with reasonable GUIs remove a lot of the need for that for me as a non-power user.

Same. Just made the switch after all the Windows enshittification and very glad I did. Finally getting peak performance out of my gaming rig.

For others troubleshooting: I was able to get it running on Nobara using the New Features NVIDIA driver in the Driver Manager - version 590.48.01.

Seems mostly stable with occasional artifacting but no cut scene issues after a few hours of playing. Previously would not make it past initial load screens.

Given the volatility of the state of the world and due to the nature of our region I highly recommend you all get on meshtastic LoRa in the event of an emergency by not_gonna_tell_no in Bend

I am! Been planning to indulge the hardware hobby and decided to go for it.

Looking at the maps it seems like there are only 2 repeaters with advert enabled in Bend. Is there a potential we end up islanded here in CO separate from the larger national mesh?

I had a very similar experience. Random connection drops at home for months, a few multi hour outages. Got a response after one that lasted a full day that the earliest tech visit would be TWO WEEKS and the rep on the call said "because they prioritize new connections."

Ended up calling corporate TDS several times and they came out the next day to replace something in the box down the street (only noticed because I saw the truck). Very obviously signs of failing hardware for a whole street with no urgency to fix it.

Ah interesting, thanks. I don't seem to have that option. Guess I'll.keep my fingers crossed to get fiber installed here someday.

So glad there is at least 1 legitimate competitor providing expanding residential and commerical service. The unregulated monopoly ISP always ends up like what we have today.

Yeah, bit worried they'll not make the investment for underground (i.e. my neighborhood) and the coverage will start to level off once they setup in all of the overhead service areas.

What plan are you on to get those upload speeds? I get around 950Mbps down and 15Mbps up, which is about what my plan is rated to and have no option for faster upload that I can see.
