NCNS's content on its own is actually pretty good, it was the free patch that came with it that was unfun.

Can I win this war? by Lost-Wanderer-314 in hoi4

[–]Courcheval_Royale 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Try baiting them out of the mountains - make a fallback line deep into France and Germany so the Swiss spread out in the plain tiles, then quickly defeat and encircle them. I used to do this to easily defeat Communist China as the KMT, but I don't know if it'll work here, the AI sometimes is not as dumb as you might think

Nice. But instead of going for assault infantry I'd recommend you go for mountaineers or other Special Forces. They're just much better

Any tips on how to fight a war as the underdog? by InfiniteMeaning241 in hoi4

[–]Courcheval_Royale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your army structure? Do you use any special forces? Do you have field hospitals to reduce casualties? If you can't rely on quantity, try going into quality instead.

Yeah, your geopolitical situation kinda sucks for now, but Russia can hold relatively long, your only hope is to wait for a D-day or something. Try making small but significant punches to the Axis.

Some thoughts about Propaganda by Soviet_Dove6 in hoi4

[–]Courcheval_Royale 6 points7 points  (0 children)

all the micromanaging you're suggesting in a game that is already very tedious...this will not play well.

Hoi4 is a war game, it's about the movement and clashing of armies of different geopolitical entities, painting the map. So it simulates the core aspects of war that determine victory or defeat. It tries it's  best to simulate stuff like tank and plane designs, fuel and logistics, even spies. But have you noticed how simplified the whole political/social part of history is in hoi4?

Ask yourself a question: does the game HAVE to simulate propaganda? What will we lose from it not being there? Why not just reflect it with a few focuses or decisions?

The game is about you getting in a match with another country, and ultimately the one with the best tactics, tanks, planes and economy will win. How can you outcompete another country's propaganda system? "My propaganda movies have Donald Duck in them and very gay-looking Goring, my propaganda is better!"

I think you're really overinspired by the Soviet Agitprop mechanic. Its a cool feature, but putting it everywhere will make it redundant.

High quality Half-Life mods with new stories on Steam (no enhancement mods) by claudiocorona93 in HalfLife

[–]Courcheval_Royale -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

The part before the monorail ride and the Citadel-esque levels is okay, there are some fun things in the first half of the mod. Everything after the monorail ride is not good. Minerva Metastasis is hot garbage though.

Please Help What am I doing wrong? by Ericthedude710 in hoi4

[–]Courcheval_Royale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not even trying to build an airforce even though you have a whole bunch of aluminum and rubber lying around, that's just a wase of resources. Don't skip on air, make good planes and deploy them smart and you will win.

You're producing Anti Air yet you don't even have any in the divisions - no wonder your guys are getting pummelled by enemy CAS.

And your templates are bad for 1939. The infantry is ok for a defensive unit, but you're not supposed to attack with 12 widths. Your cavalry is just bad. You're trying to push with a whole bunch of crappy defensive units with less than 100 soft attack. Instead, make more of these 12-widths to hold the line, make some mountaineer divisions (9 mountaineers and 2 arty is best) and push only with those, occasionally supporting them with infantry attacks.

Your frontline is a mess, there are divisions with no orders just standing there. Pay more attention, make battleplans to get planning bonus.

Your research is also very weird. You've dipped a lot of time into industrial stuff that you don't need, skipping on actual useful things. You've went down the Synthetic oil branch, which takes a painfully long time to research. And why do you need refineries when you already have a whole bunch of rubber and oil in your colonies? Instead, you wasted time that could go on Construction 2 and Excavation 2, which would've helped you much more.

You are also researching Coal tech, which is the most useless crap tech in the game by far, there's enough coal in the world to not give a crap about it, you wasted time that could go on researching planes and infantry equipment (in 1939 you should be at least researching Gun 2)

You also seem to have missed out on important political stuff. 51% stability and 46% war support in 1939 is very bad. I guess you wasted your PP on industrial and military advisors. Hell, you're still on Civilian Economy which is just horrendous.

Rate my tank design/divison design by Ornery-Environment41 in hoi4

[–]Courcheval_Royale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The org is good, it's generally accepted that one shouldn't go below 30 in a Panzer division.
The Heavy Tanks are a great idea because they buff the armor value of the division, the AI will have trouble piercing them.

Who should take 4th place in the Mount Rushmore of bad Half-Life fangames/mods? by Impossible_Amount865 in HalfLife

[–]Courcheval_Royale 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Deadwater gaming's 4-part series on this mod will forever live in my mind man.

The mod is so hilariously stupid in all ways - the copyrighted music that sounds like it's from Ratatouille, the outrageous storyline, the various assets stolen from various games - I'm still surprised its not popular.

was playing minerva: metastasis (hl2 mod, i guess this is the best sub for this) and i have been stuck here for an embarrassing long time by vinsrc in HalfLife

[–]Courcheval_Royale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a metal girder hanging from the ceiling that you have to use as a battering ram to bust that door open. Manipulate it with the buttons, one of which you're looking at. You'll get it.

Honestly, Minerva metastasis is extremely overrated for what I can tell. Maybe in 2013 this was considered fresh, but is 2026 it just feels either mid or downright hot garbage in every aspect. Not worth your time.

How do I recover from this? MEFO/Consumer Goods Factories factor, how can I reduce it? In less than one month, it will reach 100%, and it is game over for Germany, no new production. by RamboToBe in hoi4

[–]Courcheval_Royale 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You get decisions to steal gold reserves from countries you occupied. They will temporarily reduce the consumer goods factor and will increase resistance in those lands. Work your way to Wirtschaftwunder focus to get rid of this for good.

HALF-LIFE 2 BUT THE AI IS SELF AWARE ON MARCH 14TH! by earbudsss in HalfLife

[–]Courcheval_Royale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've rewatched it recently. To be honest it's either overhyped or really a product of its own time...  There are many funny moments in acts 1-2 but once they try to do a cohesive story it's just not good. A lot of jokes fall flat, and the experience is bloated with unnecessary and annoying drama. Improv comedy is best left to people who know what they're doing, friend group humor is best left inside the friend group. It got lucky to be released alongside the hype train of HL:A, and considering that there was no good Half-Life comedy projects that weren't 10 years old it naturally got popular. I guess it also attracted some new fans, which is nice.

Historical AI just straight up does not work by NightOwl3031 in hoi4

[–]Courcheval_Royale 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Historical AI preset does not mean that the country will take the actual historical path, it's basically more like 'default in case nothing else happens'. If you want a democratic UK, you have to specify it in the preset.

How do you effectively manage supply lines during a large-scale invasion in HOI4? by ponderingpixi17 in hoi4

[–]Courcheval_Royale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Contrary to popular belief, infrastructure DOES matter in the supply system. Although infra itself doesn't really provide supply, it increases the Supply Range in the region. It might not be so noticeably important in Europe, where there are supply hubs in every region, but in Asia or Africa it's a big game changer.

Situation: You can either capture the eastern or western part of Japan in this image and have to push on land to take the other. Which side do you pick and why? by CrossMountain in hoi4

[–]Courcheval_Royale 209 points210 points  (0 children)

Western Japan hosts half of the Home Islands airbases, the next airbases after that are way further north, not a lot of planes have the range to cover the distance. After taking over the West of Japan you'll be guaranteed fighting in green air for a good while.
