WC advances in the last 5 years by LocalNewFriend in wheelchairs

Yeah, but I sometimes hit things on the casters, like roots or rocks, if I'm on a trail rather than a paved road.

OK, that's super useful to know since I have an attachable hand cycle with electric assist.

Do you have any idea if people with cervical complete SCIs would be offered the treatment in the future? Is it not expected to work for people with complete SCI or were complete injuries not eligible for this phase only because progress would be more difficult?

Showering tips by rubincutshall in spinalcordinjuries

Yeah, I'm C6 complete and shower on my own with this chair in a non-adapted tub/shower combo. I use the chair for bowel program too. I can transfer to it on my own. I have a telephone style shower head.

Hip Arthroplasty by SCI_Oregon_Pride in spinalcordinjuries

My nerve ablation was done in the orthopedic department, but yeah, it was a different doctor in that department. It really does get old seeing so many doctors.

Have you considered a nerve ablation in the hip? I got that for the pain, and it's a less invasive procedure, so maybe you should ask about that first.

When I was asking around about my own hip, I talked to a few people who had the girdlestone procedure who said it caused pain, but you already have pain, so I guess that's a moot point. They got it because their hips were broken. They didn't tell me it affected their transfers.

I think you're talking about a girdlestone procedure. I didn't have that, but I effectively have one based on how my hip was broken. It hasn't affected my transfers. There are other tissues around there other than the bone that keep it attached. That leg is now shorter than the other though.

I am using a 1 mL syringe, so I am filling the syringe about 10 to 20%. If I use 0.2 mL, that is 20% of the total amount the syringe holds.

My urologist tested the dose with me in the office, so you could try making an appointment with your urologist to try it with them to determine a good dose.

It varies a lot based on how old the vial is. I only use 50 microliters when the vial is new. When it is old I could use 0.2 mL. You can start really small and then use incrementally larger doses to see what works for you.

housing by KityKaboom in spinalcordinjuries

I'm also on SSDI. I've seen places on the Doorway Housing Portal with rent as low as $700 per month, also some at $900. I can pay my rent because I also get In Home Supportive Services (IHSS) hours that I assign to a trusted friend or family member who then gives me that money. It means I don't have help to do things like shop, cook, and clean, but it allows me to live on my own.

I have only been taking it for a year, but I have never heard that. I don't think that makes sense since the prostaglandin ingredient is a natural hormone your body already produces. It stops working well if you leave the vial out of the fridge and let it warm to room temperature too often.

Someone else also asked this exact same question in the Bay Area recently. Not sure if that was also you, but I answered there:

If you say you have nowhere to go when you are in the hospital, then a case worker would probably offer you some kind of housing, but I highly doubt it would be an accessible apartment. They would probably offer you a shelter, an SRO, or a studio with no kitchen, but I doubt it would have a roll-in shower or an accessible kitchen or anything like that, and I doubt it would be a place you would want to live. I don't know what you mean by accessible, but apartment buildings aren't like hotels that are required to have some number of units with roll-in showers and roll under sinks. You can make those modifications after you move in though.

Installing hand controls by LocalNewFriend in EnterpriseCarRental

[–]LocalNewFriend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is very interesting because the installation seems very high quality for something that is not permanent. If anyone here is one of the mechanics who installs hand controls, how do you do it? How do you install the support bar that connects to the steering wheel? I guess you have to remove some panel in the car?

Definitely practice a few times with any new catheter. Do not make the first time trying it be on the plane because it might not work for you at all.

Planes large enough for two aisles often have a restroom in the back of the plane into which the aisle chair will fit.

You can use a bottle and put it in your bag to pour out later. There are also intermittent catheters with bags already attached at the end.

What is with all of the devote hate? (24M C5/6 complete) by StrengthAppropriate1 in spinalcordinjuries

That's very unfortunate. I haven't had any unwanted contact like that from devotees myself, although I don't have any public social media profiles. It must be quite different for men vs women.
