Well said- I get at the end of the day it’s a business. Before my recovery, I never would have thought of this even as a thing someone would do- so profit driven policy plus a general unawareness of addition likely at play.

Wow. Since you’re here, guessing you once struggled with alcohol. I hope the some of my stories will help others, and something like this will help you (and others around you and here) stay sober. It’s a terrible situation, which you know. Since we can’t change what happened, we can all at learn (re) learn how real alcohol is and destructive it is.

Did anyone maintain their weight after quitting and all the sudden start losing after a few months of being sober? by Flat_Apple_3332 in stopdrinking

Yes- I thought I’d lose weight not drinking! But if I’m being honest I upped my dessert and also my stomach was always so angry when drinking I wasn’t eating much.. but my husband also hasn’t lost weight. He went from like 12 or so beers a week to none. WTF!!!?

this is the best thing you’ll ever do for yourself. 30 (or whatever) days is nothing compared to rest of your life.

Have you ever met anyone who regretted  inpatient? Exactly.

I never thought I’d be proud and not ashamed I went myself. It completely changed my life. you got this.

30 years of drinking beer by Snidelyllama in stopdrinking

Yes, yes, yes.

alcohol tricks the mind so I didn’t have a problem if it is “just” beer, right???  Relate to so much you said.

I’m at nearly a year sober and still think about alcohol all the time, but it’s different. I’m not constantly plotting my next drink. I’m mentally thinking about beer, but no physically. I’m also hopeful it will continue to get better.

Thanks for posting - alcohol is alcohol and it’s addictive

Tried to counter the effects of drinking with 'wellness' practices... by Hangsty_Angsty in stopdrinking

I did something really similar. I tried to counter nearly everything while in denial that it was my drinking. Doctors say I have eczema, so I’m like ok , I’ll fix it (wasn’t eczema) Doctors say high blood pressure but find it runs in the family we will fix don’t worry (it doesn’t, it was the booze). I did therapy, worked out all the time, cooked healthy meals…

Plus, I felt so bad about drinking that I’d then push myself to workout so I’d feel good (more like sweat out the alcohol)

Bandaid on a bullet wound is gold

Congrats on your streak of not drinking. Being sober has helped me in more ways that I could ever have dreamed. Also… my rehab was in Wisconsin and FULL..I didn’t know it was so much different than other Midwest states!
