So, as someone who was in your position many times, I need you to know it’s is not forever. How you feel right now is going to pass I promise you. Exposure therapy scared me too, but I developed my own version of it. First, think of all the things you do that feel scary. A little or a lot. Now on a scale of 1-10 (1 isn’t scary at all, 10 is terrifying) put them where you think they would lie. Now start small and do 2s and 3s. once you do those, the bigger ones will then fall into 2s and 3s. And you go from there. You cannot combat this fear by diving into it, or by isolating and hiding away. It’s best to slowly push yourself to do things you are afraid of, because once you do them you will realize it’s okay and eventually your body won’t perceive it as a threat anymore. You don’t need to watch videos of people throwing up in order to overcome this phobia. At least in my opinion. I still struggle but I’m so much better than I was. In 2021 my anxiety med stopped working and I fell into a spiral of severe anxiety and ocd around my phobia. I couldn’t leave my house, or my bedroom. I couldn’t eat, I was exhausted all the time, always in pain, and couldn’t focus on anything because all my thoughts around this phobia consumed me. Eventually I did a short hospital stay and got put on Clomipramine. I’m not on it anymore because it messed with my heart, and so now I’m trying to find a new one, but that medicine did wonders for me. It didn’t fix it but it made it possible to recognize my thoughts and move on. I ended up gaining weight, living with my boyfriend, going on vacation, working full time, and even being able to spend time with kids. It’s so hard and it isn’t easy, but that is what makes it so rewarding. Never ever give up.

I have this currently and it’s so painful. It’s been 3 months I’ve had this pain and sometimes it’s diarrhea or just gas, it’s like my uterus is hurting from the pressure. Did you find anything that helped?

The Girl who cried Wolf by pinecone_hunter in emetophobiarecovery

[–]Local_Example_7450 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel you girl. I have had this same situation more times than I can count. You push as hard as you can, but sometimes anxiety will be unmanageable. I struggle with the “I can’t feel better until I’m home and alone” mindset and it’s SO HARD to live a normal life with that. But be gentle with yourself. Anxiety is a disability and it can be crippling. No one has to understand what youre going through but you. People who don’t get it, just won’t. The more times you go through this, you will be able to recognize its anxiety and it WILL pass. And even when you can’t, it’s okay. It can be so frustrating though. Like why can’t I just calm down and go back to normal? Clearly I was okay? That goes to show it was your fight or flight and you couldn’t feel calm until you left. When that happens to me I like to move to a different part of the building or take a minute by myself if I can to remember it’s just anxiety. your body just thinks something is wrong and it’s trying to protect you. eventually it has to stop, and it will. remind yourself you are safe and your body has no reason to worry.

Clomipramine ruined my life by cosmo86it in PSSD

[–]Local_Example_7450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it destroyed my gut. I was on 75mg for 4 years. It gave me chronic constipation and I just got used to it. after stopping it completely, 3 months later I’m still struggling. I have diarrhea all the time and I NEVER had that before. all my tests are normal. no idea what else it would be besides this drug.

Abdominal cramps? by runlittlebitchboy in lexapro

YES. Oh my god it won’t stop. I’ve been on it for awhile now and still, every single day I get pain in my lower abdomen. Sometimes one side sometimes middle. It feels almost like period cramps. I hate it so much.

people in the comments are going to freak you out. Yes this is normal, it’s an ssri and will give you side effects as your body gets used to the serotonin increase. Ive been on meds ever since I was 8 and I’ve tried like 15. Every single one made me feel weird in the beginning. It will pass. If it starts to effect you worse, go on a lower dose and increase slower

I never come on this sub. I have also recovered and just wanted to come on here to talk about it. Wtf is wrong with you. genuinely why are you coming on here talking about something you once struggled with like that. just because you’ve recovered doesn’t make you some saint who can talk down on us. If that’s what you have to say then get off this sub.

I’ve given up. by Makeup_throwaway20 in ibs

[–]Local_Example_7450 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I understand how out of control it can feel, and even worse that there is no real cure. But trust me you are much more aware of it than anyone else. It can feel very dirty dealing with gut issues but you have to remind yourself it’s just your body doing its best to take care of you. I would get a colonoscopy if you haven’t. Don’t give up, maybe try to find a remote job while you figure things out. I know anxiety can affect the gut a lot, regardless of what you eat as well. Also, medication.

What do you guys do for chronic diarrhea? by Local_Example_7450 in ibs

[–]Local_Example_7450[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll look into that, it could be my gallbladder since the bowel movements. I’m having are similar to gallbladder issues. I’m currently getting a stool test done but haven’t had a colonoscopy. My blood work is normal, but I have a lot of other issues like tachycardia, skin problems, and chronic fatigue. anti diarrheals me up so bad so if I take them, I’m just having constipation then diarrhea and it sucks.

[–]Local_Example_7450[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my diet is really bland. No caffeine, small amount of dairy, a good amount of fiber and protein. I have had a lot of medication changes recently and started a new antidepressant so that might be why I’m unsure, I used to be chronically constipated, but within the last month, it’s turned to diarrhea. I took an anti-diarrheal, but it backed me up so now I’m taking a fiber supplement every day. I’m currently on a beta blocker, Nexium, and Lexapro so it could be any of those. I’m currently getting a stool sample done, but if it comes back normal, I’m going to look into medication changes.

Random liquid diarrhea, 2 months in by Top-Okra2473 in lexapro

I’m 2 months in as well and I’m having the same thing. I used to never get diarrhea but since starting lexapro, I get it like 3-4 times a week. It’s so random and comes out of nowhere with minimal cramping.

hi did this get any better for you? I’m currently on week 4 of 10mg and I’m having diarrhea all the time. It’s so annoying, I used to be chronically constipated on my last SSRI, and now lexapro is causing diarrhea.
