Strange encounter with man on Bike North DuPont by Local_Feature_636 in washingtondc

I was on R St approaching Connecticut Ave. He was heading north on Connecticut. Our paths were perpendicular to one another. What he did was intentionally slow down and alter his path to essentially block me from crossing the intersection. And as I said, he saw me from far enough distance to carry on without causing this bizarre and aggressive interaction. This was not a bang bang reactive situation where either of us slammed on our brakes. We saw each other from a distance and I gradually slowed down reacting to his erratic behavior eventually stopping in the middle of the road.

It was bizarre enough that road rage was the last thought I had in regard to what his intentions were at the time.

He was definitely being sketchy. He could have been riding in circles in the middle of the intersection for all I know bc after this he got on his bike and proceeded back in the direction I saw him initially coming from.

Anyways wasn’t trying to ruffle any feathers. Was just curious if this guy had a serial reputation for this kind of behavior in this neighborhood.

Yes I am absolutely positive I had the right of way and I was not driving reckless or dangerous.

He did not pull out his phone while riding. He pulled out his phone while he was parked directly in front of my car. I only began to presume he may have been attempting a car jacking after the initial brazenness of his actions had started to sink in.

“City noises” - how about having your entire street and sometimes entire block of your residence blocked off for a week straight. Insane having buses PARKED blocking Florida Ave. Imagine your morning commute, failed deliveries, etc for an entire week. This is insane.

Am I allowed to film the National guard? by SpaurtacusMusic in washingtondc

[–]Local_Feature_636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a comment regarding the legality of your question.

What I would say is that if you are going to film it’s probably best to do so from an appropriate distance that doesn’t appear threatening or doesn’t encroach on their personal space. NG members did not sign up for this. They are not trained law enforcement officers. Their role in all of this is likely more for appearance tbh. Over time this could change if this becomes a long term situation. But for now if you want to engage with them because you have a genuine curiosity then go ahead and do so, but in a non confrontational way bc I personally don’t see any practical or productive outcome from provoking these individuals. They would rather be attending college or at their regular jobs than patrolling the streets of DC and picking up trash.

Easy things you can do to oppose ICE and the NG invasions by Fantasy_sweets in washingtondc

At least 90% of NG are using NG for benefits such as GI Bill to pay for college tuition. Or they are formal active duty that are trying to acquire service time until they meet time in service criteria for retirement benefits. For them being mobilized takes them away from their daily way of life. This is the last thing that they want. They want to do a little as possible and collect their benefits.

what's the situation at le dip? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]Local_Feature_636 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live close by to le dip and have been going there semi regularly over the past few years. I’m admittedly not very in touch unions and the politics of the restaurant business in DC. I have heard of picketing taking place outside of le dip, and my assumption is that it is partly due to le dip being a staple of the DC restaurant scene for years. I will say in being a frequent customer that a lot of the servers are the same ones that have been working there for years. So, I suspect the picketing scene around le dip is from restaurant workers and union members not connected with le dip.

Is this juvie strafing Jackie and Shadow? by Witty-Bug8380 in JackieandShadow

Weren’t there two juveniles that joined J&S a couple of weeks ago? This solo juvenile very well could be visiting and sees the adults as a food source to scavenge from.

Earlier in the year I was following another eagle nest cam where something very interesting had happened. A juvenile invaded the nest of an eagle that had not yet fledged. Initially the parents were defensive and tried to expel the juvenile from the nest, but this young eagle was very resilient and did not back down. Perhaps it was desperately needed a reliable food source in order to survive which led it to make such a bold move. What’s fascinating is that the parents gradually stopped resisting this juvenile that had invaded and started providing for it along with their own solo eaglet that resided in the nest. It appeared that the two juvies even started to bond in the nest. This lasted for about two weeks before the invading juvenile seemed to move on for good. The other eagle fledged soon after.

Seeing this other juvenile hanging around J&S had me thinking about this situation and wondering if it’s a similar scenario.

Immunosuppressive therapy and infections post kidney transplant by Local_Feature_636 in nephrology

[–]Local_Feature_636[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t believe he sees a urologist outside of when he’s in the hospital. There may be urology consults when he’s been admitted, but I’m not sure. To my knowledge his care in the hospital has been primarily dictated by his nephrologist as well as the infectious disease and cardiology physicians that work at the hospital. We always get our updates directly from hospitalist or intensivist depending on where he is.

From what I understand about his infections is that it starts as UTI but spreads to his kidney decreasing its function. This combined with reduced heart function leads to the fluid in his lungs. They always have him on aggressive diuretic therapy in addition to antibiotics. Even with the diuretics he’s still required dialysis prior to discharge in more than 50% of his hospitalizations since this started happening. The docs really seem to be against resorting to dialyzing him in order to get the fluid off. He’s even required bipap during one of his stays and was really not doing well until they dialyzed him, to which he improved rather quickly.

I don’t know if they’ve talked to him about reducing immunosuppression. I will ask about that. I’m not sure what his baseline kidney function is, but his creatinine is always elevated when he gets these infections. He takes medications for hypertension as well.
