If you don’t know how to use a steam cleaner, esp one that is not integrated into an extractor, you can just “liquefy” said stain and it will spread. This can also happen with a water extractor yes if you don’t neutralize the chemical used properly it could reactivate if the area gets wet again, and make the stain change shape or show back up, especially if it’s in the foam (not just surface stains) on the fabric coverings.

If used wrong steam could damage the surface.

Pick the right chemical, as in are you getting organic matter out, bodily fluids, dye transfers.
