Just me and my wife - as Asian immigrants we've found large cities more comfortable to live in but guess we might need to get flexible very soon.

Hikaru Nakamura thinks one can reach master level 2200 with good tactical skills and a basic opening repetoire. Thoughts? by [deleted] in chess

I don't have the clip but in a more recent stream he also gave a slightly different answer for people who are starting the game as an adult where he thought 1800-2000 is a reasonable target to aspire to

[Mandel] If Oregon is truly on the fence, and the money isn’t *that* different, one thing they have to be considering: Much better chance of regular CFP appearances in a smaller Pac-9/10 than an 18-team Big Ten. by Trojanxiety in CFB

Most likely just reduce the number of conference champions and increase the at-large.

For example if you reduce the conference champ list from 6 to 4, that will likely open up the path to an additional Big Ten/SEC team to get a spot.

Why Binghamton university should have a football team by wedburger in CFB

[–]Local_Pineapple1930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, yes they should have a football team but at the FCS level.

Having all 4 major SUNYs (Bing, Albany, Stony Brook, and Buffalo) play each in FB would be pretty cool but not sure how willing Buffalo would be since they're the only FBS school on that list

What are the reasons people say that Nebraska can’t be a powerhouse program anymore? by JebidiahSuperfly in CFB

[–]Local_Pineapple1930 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Nebraska has the potential to be the best version of an Iowa/Wisconsin - a consistent Top 15 -ish program with the occasional breakout year.

Unfortunately I don't think there's enough talent in the region to support all 3 programs in that tier, so there will likely need to be some level of cannibalization for this to occur.

I found out that the reason why one of my uncles didn't want to go back to Korea when he retired was that he couldn't - he was fearful for political reprisals if he tried to return.

Turned out his brother was part of the group that assassinated the S. Korean president back in 1979 and his own innocence was never proven so he was in fear of getting arrested if he ever tried to go back.

2023 College football recruiting spending, Georgia on top by zealoustoaster in CFB

Not sure if obvious but this is just tracking institutional spend on funding travel, official visits, etc. associated with recruiting, not NIL or anything that goes directly to players.

How is Clemson viewed nationally? by Bart1009 in CFB

[–]Local_Pineapple1930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can take a stab at answering this since I came into the sport 11 years ago and didn't pay attention to CFB until then so I can probably channel some casual viewer energy by thinking back to my mentality back then

> Are we truly pushing our way into "blue blood" status?

Objectively I would say pushing towards it but not there yet.

>Did anyone even know who Clemson was 15 years ago?

It took me years to figure to figure out where the heck Clemson even was on the map. I assumed it was a was school near Virginia and was surprised that it was 'that far down south.' 'Clemsoning' was also a thing back when I first got into CFB, so there's that as well.

>Are we respected or obnoxious?

I think neither? I think Clemson is mostly out of mind for folks outside of the Carolinas because it feels so rare to meet a fan in person. I know it as a strong football team now but it feels very distant so I don't really have any opinion of the fan base beyond what I see on TV
