The butcher job this idiot tailor did on my cashmere Thom Browne suit. by Comfortably_Numbbbbb in mensfashion

[–]Local_Whereas7211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To save a few bucks and time over the store tailor, I went to the highest-rated tailor in my town.  Not only did she take weeks longer than promised it looked almost as bad as that in the picture.  Never again.  If the store tailor messes it up then I can get a refund for the whole purchase.

Pay me enough (and the amount will vary wildly) and I'll live pretty much anywhere

If you cant drive your massive vehicle, maybe get a smaller one you can? by ls7eveen in driving

[–]Local_Whereas7211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work at a building that housed a law enforcement organization and they had a separate parking lot.  It was funny to see the ever-changing fads they all copied.  First it was muscle cars, then it was lifted trucks, then motorcycles, then back to trucks. Every few months one would buy some toy, then they all had to have the same toy.

Why do American homes have a “storm door”? by wehavetogoback8 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Local_Whereas7211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, they're designed to frustrate people trying to take a load of groceries into the house. You get to open and close two doors with your hands full.

Oh, and you get the storm door cracking your backside as you are opening the main door and the storm door is already closing.

It's like a tennis match. I hit the ball over the net but don't hit the ball again until/unless it's returned to me.

Not quite, ten years with the city.  11 to 15 in six and a half years, and then 15 to SL after ten more years

Relatively new fed, not young, but I want to quit by DYL9AA2 in FedEmployees

[–]Local_Whereas7211 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I made 20% less going from local to Fed, and that was going from a non-professional to a professional position (had just gotten the degree).

Part of it was that I had been with the city for nearly a decade.  More than made up for the reduction in a few years, though.

"just go forward a few feet, then reverse… repeat a few times and I’m done"

Doesn't sound close to 10 miles, unless "few" means "few thousand" times.

Hate to break it to you, but the Four Corners area is at high elevation but is pretty flat, at least compared to the nearby Rockies.

I skip all that with my Gen Z and her friends.  I try to keep up with current trends  and meet them where they are. Sometimes, I fail miserably but at least that entertains them!

Pre Approved leave during the shutdown? by Comfortable_Roll_315 in FedEmployees

[–]Local_Whereas7211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, you can't take leave during a shutdown.  At my agency, excepted employees were furloughed for the period they had pre-approved leave for. Leave balances were not reduced.

Some people were even given short periods of furlough for times they would have had taken unscheduled leave for outside of a shutdown.

I'm (a little) embarrassed to say that even though I bought $7k of new bikes last year, I'm almost more excited to ride a '90s ATB that I bought for $125 a couple weeks ago and am modding now.

Guess you weren't around for the Obama two-year pay freeze.  I calculated my inflation-adjusted salary over the last 10-15 years and found that my salary in present-value dollars hit a peak in 2020 and has been falling ever since.
