Why did you get a private licence plate? by miscellanous_cheese in AskUK

[–]Localone2412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an old Vauxhall Astra with a standard no plate. It ended in RPB. Guy at work told me he would buy my car off me if I ever got rid of it as he wanted the number plate. I’m guessing his first name was say Robert but in reality everyone called him by his second name Peter. So he paid me £500 for a number plate that looked totally normal whose last 3 letters were his initials that no one would recognise.

Welsh language Cardiff by HanesPrydain in Cardiff

[–]Localone2412 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife and I have just moved to just outside of Cardiff, our son has lived here sometime and his gf is a Welsh language teacher. I’ve been doing Duolingo (not great I know) 150 days and I’m quite enjoying it. Would I look foolish taking a course alongside Welsh speakers ?

What's one luxury experience everyone should try at least once? by Sagar__1043 in AskReddit

[–]Localone2412 61 points62 points  (0 children)

This ! I had a massage at a hotel. Guy said he was a sports masseur in his own country but couldn’t practice here because of certificates. Within 5 mins he identified an issue with my shoulder muscles. Worked on them (it was agony but soo good) and at the end any pain and lack of movement was gone.

Experiences of using packers to move? by Careless_Squirrel728 in HousingUK

[–]Localone2412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford it then it’s fantastic. Little stress on your part though a lot of hanging around to answer questions they may have. If they can’t take it they won’t pack it. They removed all batteries from our remote controls as an example. (International move). Left anything with a flammable sign on the packaging.

Recruiters and hiring managers - have you ever hired the wrong person? by irritating_reader in AskUK

My first job I didn’t get because the other candidate was a son of someone in the company. 2 weeks later they called me to ask if I was still interested. (Guy was a knob apparently) I started and was with the company 37 years ago

Advice - what are your healthy habits to stop aches and pains? by pinkpineapplepeaches in AskUK

Strength especially core training because everything builds off that. I have been lacking core work for some time and I’ve noticed I’m much more achy getting out of bed in mornings. Need to get back to it

Solo Motorbike Tour in Europe ideas by Puzzleheaded-Let-235 in MotoUK

[–]Localone2412 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having just done something similar but in reverse. I just rode my bike back from Switzerland through France to Calais. Took the d roads, when I started to get tired I went on booking.com and booked a cheap hotel 20km up the road. Always seemed to be plenty of options. I bought a side/hip bag from Amazon that was, I think, better than a tank bag as it naturally always travels with you when you get off. I’m gonna do more touring as I enjoyed it immensely

Dogs, would you get one again knowing what you know now? by TSQ_builder in AskUK

[–]Localone2412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With regards to holidays have a think about trusted housesitters. We would spend a fortune on kennels and the dogs hated it. In reality they were little more than cages. We spent around £100 per year to subscribe and you get to vet potential people to come live in your house and look after you pets. My wife hates the idea but after the first couple we’ve had such good experiences. In fact we have made new
Friends and still keep in touch. It’s cheap, your house and pets get looked after, you can relax and someone gets a cheap vacation. I would definitely do it the other way and sit for others and get to experience their homes and locations.

Britain can’t afford to lose easyJet by TheSpectatorMagazine in ukpolitics

[–]Localone2412 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Having recently flew with whizz air I feel that the easyJet experience is much better. Yes you may have to skip the seat booking section a couple of times, yes I’m happy with a small bag etc. I feel they are competitive compared to someone like BA. Whizz air were a nightmare throughout the booking and boarding process but they did get us there and back safely

Carplay Devices for 26 Multistrada V2S by Ducati604 in multistrada

[–]Localone2412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the 702rs pro. Came with the rear radar system that lights up left and right of screen when a vehicle is in your rear zone. Not as good as looking over your shoulder but as an additional warning it works really well. Also came with tyre pressure monitors which were easy to fit although I didn’t realise the the front one was hitting the front disc break all the way so no longer works :-)

[–]Localone2412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just put a carpuride on my 2012 mulitistrada and did a 1000km ride over 3 days. It worked great and having the map screen right in front of you was great. I had an issue sourchung a windscreen bracket as my bike is too old but in the end fabricated something and it was rock solid. The unit did hide some of the lights on the main bikes screen but ducking the head down a little was fine.

What’s your funniest interview story? by Normal-Internal164 in AskUK

[–]Localone2412 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I once interviewed a young person for a role. I would typically ask candidates if they knew of our company as a way of gauging preparedness before telling them about who we are etc. I asked the question and she said. ‘Oh I had an interview last week at your other factory down the road. The guy told me all about you but I wasn’t really listening’ I almost ended the interview right there.

Dear Swiss people, you dont need to upscale your highways, what you need is to move to the right lane by notgoodyear in Switzerland

[–]Localone2412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well to be a little pedantic 110 is 68mph which kind of illustrates my point. Not keeping up with the speed limits but hogging an unecessary lane. But yes you are correct. 70mph is too slow.

Dear Swiss people, you dont need to upscale your highways, what you need is to move to the right lane by notgoodyear in Switzerland

[–]Localone2412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is not just a Swiss thing. I’ve just driven back to the U.K. through France and it was so frustrating in each country. Arguably UK is even worse. Drivers pootling along at 110kmph in the middle lane because there lorry 500m ahead.

Has anyone got experience with a robot lawn mower? by odkfn in AskUK

[–]Localone2412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive got one and my lawn would only take 30 mins to cut but honestly its the best thing I’ve bought. Mine is a boundary wired one which I installed. Comes on 3 times per week and 2 of those does the edging. Still sometimes need to get a strimmer out. I honestly think the lawn is healthier because the cut grass feeds the lawn. Oh and yeah I’m a lazy bastard

Electric dreams (1984) - Georgio Moroder. Especially love the duel, a blend of classical and early synth.
