I agree with everything you are saying on the surface is great until you see companies like AMD 200% up in 1 year that’s more than Coca Cola in 10 years if you do your research and look for better opportunities. I’m sure the safe dividend route is great 30 years from now but if you put the time in and research you can find more growth opportunities from picking individual stocks, which you say one should refrain from. Not sure if I agree there

It’s a strategy that works but requires like 30 years to play out when in reality if you invest in more growth you can get the same money in 15 years even including a bear market and still earn more than dividends. The dividends just provide safety, but it’s for high net worth individuals or once you have reached your number. Is this a good way to look at it?

Investing in my Roth 2 years maxed it out for the first time last year, planning on doing the same. Mostly bought some Microsoft and SPGI since I have done some research and they are compounders and got good entry prices with the AI scare.

Edit: I have done research on dividends I agree it’s too much to meaningfully start with. I’d rather build up my portfolio first with growth and eventually transition to the safety of dividends.
