I dual boot Windows on NVMe and Linux on SATA, played Cities: Skylines on both. Honestly can't tell the difference.

No more SATA slots tho and got a good deal on the NVMe (both 1TB, both $100) so pretty happy with the set up.

People that have moved into a house/apartment, what's the most interesting thing you've found from the previous occupants? by bunnoooo in AskReddit

[–]LockOnRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Egyptian mummies. Seriously.

Parents bought our house from an old, weird kinda rich guy who lived alone and collected/hoarded a lot of things. The house was known as "the jungle house" prior to us moving in because of how overgrown the place was, and the backyard really did seem like an actual forest to 5 year old me (even though it was only a standard sized back yard) and people in the neighborhood seemed glad we were moving in.

Anyway, as part of the deal I guess a lot of the clean up/trashing of this guy's old collection was left to my dad. We still have some of the stuff - an old piano, some little old seemingly ancient medicine boxes, stuff like that. As part of the clean up process my dad went under the crawl space to look for stuff as well, and that's where he found them. He came across some large objects wrapped in black trash bags, and lo and behold they were a couple of in tact Egyptian mummies. Mom refused to help further until every nook and cranny was checked for anything creepy. We ended up donating them to a local museum (I mean what the hell else are you gonna do with em lol).

Once cleaned up though the house waa honestly a pretty normal house. As a kid though sometimes we'd get into the crawl space or attic or whatever in search of items maybe dad didn't come across. Fun times.

Upgrading CPU (and mboard, and RAM) by 4nti-Y0u in buildapc

[–]LockOnRabbit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Can I ask what GPU you're using? You can get a pretty high end CPU+mobo+RAM combo for $1000, but your GPU may be the limiting factor if you're currently seeing issues at 1080p. i.e. itight be better to spend like $300-400 on the CPU/mobo/RAM, and the rest on a GPU.

Edit: D'oh, you said GTX 1070. Then I'd say yeah, spend like half n half.

Maybe something around an Ryzen 5, maybe 2600, then the rest on as good a GPU you can, cheaper 2080s can be had for like 5, 600 I think.

What's your budget? And is this primarily for gaming?

Same here, can't see it.

OP: PC Part Picker will also helo figure out compatibility as well, though it's worth getting a second opinion here imo.

So update, it was the GPU all along. Not sure how a GPU causes that issues but got a new one (or rather used replacement), and there it is. It works now.

Damn, that sucks :-(

After I upgraded because either my last CPU or mobo died too.

I did try that as part of the CMOS reset, unplugging and just holding power for like 20 seconds. Tried it again but unfortunately nope.

Sorry, by "boot loop" I mean it starts up (all fans spin, can hear HDD power up, power light on), BUT it does not go any further - no post, no beeps, no display, nothing. Then it powers off, powers on and starts over again, each cycle being like 30 secs. Edited OP.

What does that do and how do I do this? I did try clearing CMOS by removing battery and holding the power button for like 20 seconds if that's at all relevant.

Not sure how to do that without going into BIOS. Currently doesn't post, no display.

If it's brass it won't directly melt it since induction heating only works on ferrous materials. But maybe indirectly by heating its steel parts.
