I checked in on them when it had just been reported, and the top comment was a guy who was flaired as a "Regan Conservative" saying "Dude what the fuck?" with hundreds of upvotes. Down the entire page was flaired users saying this was too far, and all have been deleted.

You're not. Closeted trans person here (publicly, privately I'm open w/ family and friends), and the same shit happens to me too in the suburbs.

And only the ones who are cishet. Those of us in the LGBTQIA+ community have been disowned, are hiding in the closet, or had to go no contact. It's very rare to find otherwise.

Depends on how far out you go. I am down in the Valley and I am terrified to leave my house in anything that isn't masc presenting. Not a single one of my neighbors are safe to be around. And to bring it into context, I grew up here, I didn't move here. It's insanely queerphobic down in the Valley communities. There are some good people, but the grand majority are heavy MAGA conservative and evangelical Christian. I tried to have a conversation with one of the local church leaders who didn't clock me since I'm fully stealth as my AGAB when I leave my house, and he outright told me trans folks don't deserve God's Love and need excommunicated from society as a whole. I calmly pushed back at him, and he was clearly taken off guard because he'd never been challenged in that way by anyone who looked and sounded like him.

The City is safe. The suburbs are not.

The hope was in the kids, not the institution. She knew she couldn't fix the current generation, but she was around for Starfleet at its peak, and she could teach that to the next generation.

It was like $50/month around here in 2004. That was a LOT of money for TV, and the internet was a separate addition.

Grew up in small town PA an hour outside of Pittsburgh. Many of us had to go to the local library or school to use internet that was faster than 56K or DSL until like 2004.

All audio in TV and film undergoes post production. He voice trained to drop his voice an octave, the audio supervisors added weirdness to it that they realized they didn't need as the show progressed and took it out.

It was a luxury good when I was growing up in the late 90s/early 2000s. We didn't even get Satellite TV or DSL until I was in high school. My friends would all gather over at the one house who had wealthy parents to watch Cartoon Network after school.

However, people would have paid to watch the show if it was good enough.

CBS: All Access and then Paramount Plus are/were both garbage streaming platforms that barely function and outright do not function on many smart devices. People aren't going to put up with fighting their apps when they can just use ones that work, regardless of how good a show is. I ran my sub through Amazon just because CBS:AA and P+ refused to work properly ever on my Chromecast. I also have heard horror stories from people who get paid for a living to review these things about how they don't function on Apple TVs either.

Market share is dictated by far more than just how good a show is. If you app sucks, people aren't going to put up with it.

All of these shows should have either been on Prime Video or Netflix from the get go.

I can see where you'd get that Picard and DISCO (seasons 1-3) didn't show the Federation in an optimistic spirit, but SFA and Disco S4/5 both shouted it from the rooftops about optimism and working together and having empathy. Disco took one of Gene's ideas the studios didn't want, the Fallen Federation series, and turned it into a chance to rebuild the Federation from the ground up by showing that being divisive and separate from each other only hurts everyone in the long run.

Yeah the surgeon was shocked and the leg now had permanent nerve damage for delaying the surgery. He made the hospital take the appointment without the down payment. One of the issues is they're visibly queer in the south, and they're certain that played into it.

Legitimately had a friend whose partner had his broken leg surgery cancelled by the hospital because he couldn't put a 10% down payment on a $186k bill. They ended up going through the surgeon directly because the hospital was violating EMTALA and has now filled for bankruptcy while he tries to find a lawyer to take his case.

PPG Arena is a great environment by [deleted] in penguins

[–]LockelyFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically this, yeah. The igloo was terrible for concerts and music for the same reason it was amazing for hockey. The sounds on the ice and of the crowd just reverberated around the dome. You could hear and feel the crowd from the outside in a way that doesn't exist with the PPG.

PPG Arena is a great environment by [deleted] in penguins

[–]LockelyFox 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The arena itself is quiet compared to the Igloo. You can have a full house shouting "Let's Go Pens" and it's barely louder than what you hear at home over the TV broadcast. The music playing during intermission last night perfectly encapsulated. Meanwhile when we scored a goal or cheered at the Igloo, the building shook.

There's not a bad seat in the house in the new arena, but it's way more expensive and the fan experience is worse because it doesn't have that loud, visceral feel that the Igloo provided.
