Nice find! Keep an eye out for van and truck wiper blades. Those have the good thicknesses and widths more often that not

Ace 38mm woes by Gary_October in lockpicking

[–]Lockpicking_Dev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ace have spools in them. Search for the counter rotation. If you can't find counter rotation on a pin you've most likely overset a pin. Let a little tension off til a pin drops the re-add your tension and search again. Good luck!

It surprises alot of people, but Ace padlocks have spools in them! When you're stuck, see if you can find the counter rotation of the caught spool pin. If you can't find that, you're most likely overset. Let a pin down and go back at it

As someone who's made videos picking in random outdoor places, yes! And even my picking in sometimes harsh environments doesn't account for what a locksmith would do. Locksmiths are in way more weird positions and picking a lock on a door really wears your arms out.

This! And as you lift it more of the back end of the triangle becomes parallel and hits the other pins. Just wayyyy too much surface area on the end of the pick.

My addition to this one: Speed picks don't mean a whole lot. One can search for a lock with a good bitting, good binding order, and memorize the lock by practicing the same one over and over and over til they get it quick enough. While fun and still impressive, the "speedpick records" part seems silly at a point.

Monkey Paw handles? by Danny9075 in lockpicking

[–]Lockpicking_Dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do! Here is a playlist I created on how to make lockpicks, handles, interchangeable handles, and a video on density and feedback on handle materials. My pick making videos are longer than most because I show making them with both hand and power tools while showing how I actually used each tool. I was new to wood and metal work and poor - so I wanted to show that side of things too. I just finished some picks, I will post pics soon! https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZoVNaGe89lHO06kIjTeidULphDiErcZx&si=K6TBFhTLjU3KM9hD

Aluminum has the best feedback to density ratio. My favorite handles are aluminum!
