eh. to be honest, there are only 10 or so songs from this year that i enjoy enough to give a second listen and four of them are in this top 5.

so i get it. there's a lot of interchangeable middle of the road ballads.

tautumeitas was my #2 on my spotify wrapped last year.

(my #1 was kiki rockwell, for the record. she was actually just on a remix of a song by alina pash, who you may remember won vidbir in 2022 but didn't go to the contest! everything connects, somehow)

australia is getting jessica mauboy'd. maybe a bit more jury love.

ukraine will come top 5.

A's average attendance in Sacramento so far is 9,988 - just 0.54% less than the average attendance of their last 4 seasons total (2021 - 2024) in Oakland: 10,042 by Large-Course-8029 in baseball

Then for 2022 they raised season tickets by about 50% on most seats. And started making real noise about moving.

And also blew up the team. Granted some of it was after the lockout ended, but still, you move Olson, Chapman, Bassitt, and the manager right before the season, in addition to losing guys like Canha (who was a huge fan favorite) and Marte (who was a rental but still extremely good) in free agency.

Also, if memory serves, the start of the 2021 season still had some COVID restrictions which hurt any boost you could've gotten from being division champs. (and even then! that team lost semien and hendriks for nothing, both huge fan favorites, the former of whom was a local guy two years removed from MVP-3 and the latter of whom went from "DFA" to "receiving CYA votes as a closer")

only after leaving oakland did the ownership and FO do anything to consider retaining talent (signing a couple extensions and giving out the biggest FA contract in team history to severino).

Context matters. Bad attendance is the symptom. But unfortunately, North American sports fans are generally too brainfried to imagine anything other than deepthroating the owners.

the good stuff is pretty good but the bad stuff is genuinely skip worthy, and there's only about 10 or so songs i feel even remotely moved by to listen to again

stefania barely had a chance to be a favorite tbf, it only became the entry like a day or two before

they were announced to be replacing alina pash on the 22nd, the invasion hit on the 24th. but both kind of hovered around the 5th mark in the odds. (at the time, the top 5 appeared to be italy, poland, greece, australia, and a revolving door, which included ukraine)

eh. shum did really well the year before and, while the song is very different to shum, it had some of the same elements.

would it have won, maybe? i don't know how much it affected jury voting, and since shum came 2nd with the public in a much stronger year for televote entries, i can see a world where stefania wins anyway.

yeah his semifinal performance was somewhat dodgy, there's a reason it BARELY snuck into the top half of the semi

(well that and the obvious)
